28.11.2024 Herques Jeroen Kirchner ★★★★★ 📖 ★★★ ★★★ Completed ✕
Abseiling from the bridge is no longer possible (dismantled). Any entrance to the canyon with permit or not should be discrete.
28.11.2024 Herques sup. Jeroen Kirchner ★★★★★ 📖 ★★★ ★★★ 💧 Dry Completed ✔
Collector canyon. Neighbouring Volcán canyon has the better scenery and is less monotonous. Also in Herques inf. the walking is less teduous. Given the few repetitions some downclimbing is unbolted & some single anchors remain (single steel maillons).
24.11.2024 Volcán Jeroen Kirchner ★★★★★ 📖 ★★★ ★★★ 💧 Dry Completed ✔
Short version is described here, but the lower part is a very scenic-volcanic hike, with caves that may have been inhabited by the Guanches. It would be a shame to miss it. We continued until shortly before the highway, exited right to the secondary road + 5min of crosscountry to the highway exit and tunnel, which takes us back to the car at Cafeteria Los Roques (3-4hr) continuing to the beach would also be an option.
23.11.2024 Orchilla Jeroen Kirchner ★★★★★ 📖 ★★★ ★★★ 💧 Dry Completed ✔
Done Orchilla inf. from El Frontón village with one car. Similar to the superiore, it can be combined with remote, but well bolted rockclimbs (25m. max). Orchilla inf. with exit along the Camino Real (before the 2 biggest drops) is possible with one 50m. Lower than this is said to be full of plants and bringing machete would be recommended, also two cars and bigger ropes (max. 44). Bolting not ideal but workable.
16.11.2024 Gambuezas Jeroen Kirchner ★★★★★ 📖 ★★★ ★★★ 💧 Dry Completed ✔
Great scenery on top and in the canyon, which is now more transited in its higher part. Anchors double glue-ins and a few spits for the former downclimbs. Exited via the tunnels, followed by a hike down. Car shuttle long but recommended.
18.10.2024 Kronburger Tobel Jeroen Kirchner ★★★★★ 📖 ★★★ ★★★ 💧 Normal Completed ✔
Water levels are stable, some pools are clean of gravel. Did another effort to remove damaged anchors, in total since i started with this +-40 anchors. Warning: 1 glue-in with ring (right bank, half-way the canyon) is broken, but still may be of use since this passage is practically downclimbable without aid. 3 hours for the full canyon in 3 persons.

Also this year, very late (October), large snowremains halfway and (this is new) also at the exit of the canyon, both impossible to go below. Alpine techniques are a must! Anchors: some of the single anchors deemed 'ok' by previous teams, are actually on hollow, fractured rock!! These are now doubled but should be evaluated carefully, possibly equalized or even relocated. I have taken out much of the non-stainless steel anchors and replaced with inox. Doubled or renewed others. At the end of the large snowfield halfway the canyon, there is an emergency anchor (high!) and a damaged anchor (low), both on the left. The snow seems to end at this location every year (i.e. just before the narrow part, where the canyon makes a bend and stops the snow), this emergency anchor may be useful for reentering the canyon. From this point onwards, high chances of rockfall, until the impressive grand finale with unreachable anchors (i added in 2023 a single M10 on the left, with exposed access but well-protected). I post the sequence here, for copying it to the file on Opencanyon: 2 bolts L 20m 1 bolt R 10m 2 bolts R 20m (original anchor on bad rock!) 1 bolt L 10m 1 bolt R 20m 2 bolts L 25m 1 bolt L 6m 1 bolt L 8m Emergency exit L Snowfield to traverse for 100-200m: emergency bolt L 20m (if snow still reaches the bend in the canyon), if the end of the snow is in sight before the bend in the canyon (a wall that stops the snow) descend with alpine techniques and find 1 bolt L 15m Narrow part, high chances of rockfall, 2 different bolts R 8-10m Stuck boulder, 1 bolt R 10m (damaged quicklink backed up with carabiner) 2 bolts R 16m 1 bolt R 18m Grand finale 1 bolt L 24m (the other anchors are, at present, unreachable) Possible second snowremains (building a higher wall than the first) possible emergency exit L 1 bolt L 10m Downclimb and exit

Added (double) anchors where previously there were none, also added more abalakovs to take away some of the exposure in the downclimbs. Would be great to add quicklinks for all 7 abalakovs.
13.10.2024 Vajo del Sandolino Jeroen Kirchner ★★★★★ 📖 ★★★ ★★★ 💧 Low Completed ✔
Done a few days after consistent rainfalls. Enjoyable and rather continuous canyon, with 2 escapes we noticed (one before the final waterfall). Anchors are mostly doubled, renewed, a few older ones, but they do the job. Limited parking space, best to come max 1 car.
19.09.2024 Pala Giuliana Jeroen Kirchner ★★★★★ 📖 ★★★ ★★★ 💧 Low Completed ✔
Discovered the tour exploring the valleys on bike. I ran the upper and lower part of the canyon (only the lower is interesting). The single 8mm anchors were a bit minimal, so i backed them up with abalakovs. Next time / next group brings 4 quicklinks to complete.

Removed many of the fixed ropes before the heavy rains that are forecasted. Noticed a couple of new trees and (not stainless & some unnecessary) steel anchors.

Wonderful Karwendeltour from Vomp. Almost dry in its upper part but recommended for its curvy shapes in compact, white limestone. To our joy we found most drops rebolted straight from the start, with single, generally well-placed glue-in bolts (8mm). The original anchors are still in place, but no longer used (all are missing quicklink). The lower section on the other hand is almost excessively equipped with chains and fixed ropes. We added one Tebylon anchor in the upper part where a hanger was missing (but the rock on this location was bad) otherwise the bolting is fine. With a minimal bolting kit, this canyon should be doable top-to-bottom. As the book says, an ice axe could be interesting early season. Vomper loch currently has more gravel than usual.

All good, 1 anchor missing (fresh debris flow), but enough trees there

Simple abseilcanyon with views of the Vajont catastrophe. Done in between storms, little to no water. Recent anchors are single/double M8. One old anchor is M10. Watch out not to get rope stuck on a metal bar next to a single anchor halfway (left bank). 50m rope was just enough.
16.08.2024 Val di Cima Montagna Val di Bosco Bello Jeroen Kirchner ★★★★★ 📖 ★★★ ★★★ 💧 Normal Completed ✔
Further to the exploration of the upper Cima Montagna at 1400m, we added abalakovs, some (used) quicklinks, and anchor for the highest drop, max. 30m. There is no need to exit the canyon, all drops are covered. Further down we added a couple M10 anchors, but still some downclimbing and many single 8mm. To be completed. With Bosco Bello + Valmontina feels like 4 canyons from dry to big pools, and boulderhopping in between. Approach 1h45-2h30 on excellent trail 365.
16.08.2024 Torrente Valmontina Jeroen Kirchner ★★★★★ 📖 ★★★ ★★★ 💧 Normal Completed ✔
Recommended is the full descent: Zima Montagna-Bosco Bello-Valmontina with start at 1400. For lovers of long days. From Bosco Bello onwards it is obvious how devastating these floods are. I.e. lots of boulders, walking, downclimbing but luckily also swimming, jumping, sliding. Final anchor in Valmontina is missing (we leave some emergency rope) but it can be overcome with a small jump from the boulder. Exit right bank up the scree, through the forest goes a small trail to the parking.

Cool place with cold waters for hot days. Fyi dead animal was removed from pool, but still smells.
02.08.2024 Val Piovin Jeroen Kirchner ★★★★★ 📖 ★★★ ★★★ 💧 Normal Completed ✔
Still plenty water this time of year. Easy bike-ride from Claut while checking flow in nearby canyons Susanna & Nucci. The approach however is short but not easy. Read description well (avoid the scree at all costs).
09.07.2024 Rio Marodia (superiore) Jeroen Kirchner ★★★★★ 📖 ★★★ ★★★ 💧 Normal Completed ✔
We entered quite high (around 1800masl) to descend on scree at first. Possibly a faster access to the good part exists on the orographic right bank, but according to one of our team members this trail is unfortunately unpassable with fallen trees. The canyon fills up nicely with water from the many karstic sources and good rock allows for pools, which offered jumps, slides and nice abseils. Albeit a little warning for trees or rocks that may be hidden in the pools. We bolted everything new with M10 anchors. We did not commit to the lower part on this day.
09.07.2024 Ciol de Costa Spessa Jeroen Kirchner ★★★★★ 📖 ★★★ ★★★ 💧 Low Completed ✔
Only interesting as collector's canyon. Wild approach on a very faint (animal) trail in high grass, right bank via the ruins of Stalle Costa Spessa. We completed/made redundant the more riskful caving/alpine anchors with M10 inox. Bring bolting kit and webbing.
07.07.2024 Breitgrieskarbach Jeroen Kirchner ★★★★★ 📖 ★★★ ★★★ 💧 Normal Completed ✔
Possible thunderstorms didn't allow for time to complete the anchors, just a quick visit to the canyon. Water levels seems rather stable throughout the year.
06.07.2024 Val Zemola Clarissa Linder ★★★★★ 📖 ★★★ ★★★ 💧 High Completed ✔
Alle Stände ok. Die meisten Becken auch bei hohem Wasserstand kein Problem, man kann oft schnell wieder stehen (Kies), Treibanker trotzdem sicher sinnvoll mitzunehmen.
All stands ok. Most pools are no problem even when the water level is high, you can often stand again quickly (gravel), but it still makes sense to take a floating anchor with you.

30.04.2024 Rio Nuccí Jeroen Kirchner ★★★★★ 📖 ★★★ ★★★ 💧 High Completed ✔
Done Nucci-express. Impressive to see it finally with high flow. Added chain for intermediate belay in the big waterfall. Team members enjoyed the approach and ambiance in the gorge.
15.10.2023 Gnaupenloch Jeroen Kirchner ★★★★★ 📖 ★★★ ★★★ 💧 Normal Completed ✔
All anchors ok, quicklinks in place, single most of the time, best not to add more since the river bed will change in time but bring a bolting kit just in case and know when a storm has hit (this was the case in 2023). Great with mountainbike.
23.09.2023 Rio Nuccí Jeroen Kirchner ★★★★★ 📖 ★★★ ★★★ 💧 Normal Completed ✔
Rio Nuccí (ultra express) was back at early summer flow after yesterday's rain. To our content also some sun in the canyon. All anchors ok. Added some quicklinks. One idea for next time to make the 63m shorter. Some markings on the approach disappearing. Recorded a track for the approach.
19.09.2023 Torrente Senaiga Jeroen Kirchner ★★★★★ 📖 ★★★ ★★★ 💧 Low Completed ✔
DC- which is always plenty/too much to enter the pool at the bottom of the c65, easily avoidable via right bank, using the 3 intermediate belays, last one is a tree on a ledge. First anchor is mono-point, rest is double. The canyon would be nicer if the waterfall could be descended in the active, but this is dangerous (hence signs on top). More info & topography on website of Canyon of Dolomites agency. A fast return to upper P is possible, interesting if only 1 car, but near impossible to find.
17.09.2023 Torrente Grigno Jeroen Kirchner ★★★★★ 📖 ★★★ ★★★ 💧 High Completed ✔
The new anchors and handlines make Grigno safer but also longer to descend as you have to install all of them. 8 to 10 carabiners will be needed. We did the approach on foot which was quite long, with parts of the path destroyed (and officially closed) due to rockfall (also noticeable in the canyon). Flow was normal with 1.7 to 2.36m3/s.
16.09.2023 Val di Cima Montagna Val di Bosco Bello Jeroen Kirchner ★★★★★ 📖 ★★★ ★★★ 💧 Low Completed ✔
We entered on top at around 1400m. by following the 365 trail. We did not find any equipment in this upper part and descended from natural anchors (left some fixed rope, but not everywhere...) first part was dry. Feels like we did 4 canyons in one day. Unfortunately many abseils are equipped below standard with single 8mm :(
16.09.2023 Ciol del Pes Jeroen Kirchner ★★★★★ 📖 ★★★ ★★★ 💧 Normal Completed ✔
All anchors ok, flow still very nice for the time of year, things get interesting from the 2nd abseil with some beautiful longer ones. To complete the day with nearby canyons.
15.09.2023 Rio Stuet Jeroen Kirchner ★★★★★ 📖 ★★★ ★★★ 💧 Normal Completed ✔
The mix of anchors all ok, one of the last ones is a chain behind the corner a step down from the old 2 spits with rope (best not to miss the chain obviously) flow still considerable for the time of year. Done after Ciol del Pes
07.06.2023 Arzino (superiore) Jeroen Kirchner ★★★★★ 📖 ★★★ ★★★ 💧 High Completed ✔
Removed some wood from the canyon and opened a new aquatic line half way through the canyon. Conditions were perfect, a bit lower than the opening year 2021 (but higher than in 2022), it would seem the source depends on melting water (hence: more snow, late in the year = bigger flow, throughout summer)

Having done all tours in the area, i was curious about the smaller canyons that are nowhere described. To my surprise there was no anchors, i completed the tour on abalakov or downclimb.
