Vom Flughafen im Süden der Insel auf der TF-1 nach NNO. Nach 39,3 km (ab Auffahrt auf die Autobahn) TF-1 über Ausfahrt 20 bei El Socorro verlassen und auf der TF-281 in westlicher Richtung hinauf nach Hidalga zur TF-28. Auf dieser 175 m links, in Richtung Ortsmitte Hidalga, dann wieder rechts ab auf die TF-245 hinauf nach Arafo.. Im Zentrum der Ortschaft vor Verwaltungsgebäude und Kirche links ab und beim folg. Kreisverkehr rechts in die Calle Jose Antonio. Diese Straße nun immer geradeaus aufwärts - später heißt sie Calle La Libertad - bis nach 1,2 km (ab Kreisverkehr) der Camino Morra del Estanque links abgeht. Hier das (untere) Auto an geeigneter Stelle parken. Falls man nur 1 Auto zur Verfügung hat, beginnt hier der Zustieg. Sofern man über 2 Autos verfügen kann, ist eine Umsetzung über 23 km möglich. Zeitersparnis gewinnt man dadurch nicht, sondern verliert Zeit, aber der Zustieg von oben her ist landschaftlich überwältigend. Das Problem ist, dass das oben abgestellte Auto bruchgefährdet ist (haben wir leider erfahren müssen).

From the airport in the south of the island on the TF-1 to the NNE. After 39.3 km (from the highway ramp) leave the TF-1 at exit 20 at El Socorro and take the TF-281 in a westerly direction up to Hidalga to the TF-28. Turn left on this 175 m towards the center of Hidalga, then turn right again onto the TF-245 up to Arafo. In the center of the village, turn left in front of the administration building and the church. At the next traffic circle turn right into Calle Jose Antonio. Follow this road straight on uphill - later it is called Calle La Libertad - until after 1.2 km (from the traffic circle) the Camino Morra del Estanque turns off to the left. Park the (lower) car in a suitable place here. If you only have 1 car available, this is where the access begins. If you have 2 cars at your disposal, it is possible to walk 23 km. You won't save any time, you will lose time, but the access from the top is scenically stunning. The problem is that the car parked at the top is at risk of breaking (as we unfortunately found out).

Zustieg von oben nach unten: Von der TF-24 biegen wir auf die Piste in südlicher Richtung ab. Sie führt uns durch lichten Pinienwald hinunter zum schwarzen Kegel Caldera de Pedro Gil./ Arafo/Montana de las Arenas. Wir gehen links daran vorbei weiter abwärts. Wo die Piste das steinige Bachbett beim Zusammenfluss der Barrancos de Cosme und de las Saletas kreuzt (1450 m üNN) können wir in den Barranco (hier als Bco. de las Saletas bezeichnet) einsteigen. Beim Zustieg von unten gehen wir vom Auto die Querstraße einige Meter nach Süden und folgen dann dem Camino Morra del Estanque aufwärts. Wo die Straße auf 835 m Höhe beginnt, nach Süden zu schwenken, geht rechts eine Piste zu Gehöften am Rande der Schlucht. Wir gehen noch ein paar Meter links auf der Straße weiter und biegen dann auf den Weg rechts hinauf ab. Er mutiert zum Bergpfad "T-2" (Markierung Blaues Kreuz auf Lila Grund). Auf etwa 950 m Höhe geht rechts ein Pfad ab. Hier hinunter wäre der Zustieg zum unteren Abschnitt des Bco bzw der (ggf. Not-)Ausstieg aus dem oberen. Wir halten uns links und steigen weiter auf. Wir kommen aus dem Wald heraus, passieren das Refugio de las Arenas, verlassen etwa 200m danach die Piste nach rechts und queren in einem Linksbogen hinunter in den Canyon (etwa 1250 m Einstiegshöhe, also deutlich niedriger als beim Zustieg von oben). Man kann natürlich auch von oben kommend neben dem Bco. die Piste bis hier unten weitergehen, um hier an niedrigerer Stelle einzusteigen.

Access from top to bottom: We turn off the TF-24 onto the dirt road heading south. It leads us through sparse pine forest down to the black cone Caldera de Pedro Gil/Arafo/Montana de las Arenas. We pass it on the left and continue downhill. Where the track crosses the stony streambed at the confluence of the Barrancos de Cosme and de las Saletas (1450 m above sea level), we can enter the barranco (here called Bco. de las Saletas). On access from below, we take the cross road a few meters south from the car and then follow the Camino Morra del Estanque uphill. Where the road begins to turn south at an altitude of 835 m, a dirt road on the right leads to farmsteads on the edge of the canyon. We continue along the road for a few more meters on the left and then turn right onto the path uphill. It turns into the "T-2" mountain path (marked with a blue cross on a purple background). At an altitude of around 950 m, a path branches off to the right. Down here would be the access to the lower part of the Bco or the (possibly emergency) exit from the upper part. We keep left and continue on the path. We come out of the forest, pass the Refugio de las Arenas, leave the track to the right about 200 m later and cross in a left-hand bend down into the canyon (about 1250 m access altitude, i.e. significantly lower than the access from above). Of course, you can also continue down the slope from above next to the Bco. to enter at a lower point.

Siehe Fotos und Video ! Aus- und Zustiegsmöglichkeit beim Relais im 2. hohen Abseiler beim Tunnelfenster der Wasserleitung. Interessant die vor allem beim 1. hohen Abseiler deutlich sichtbaren Lavaströmme, jeweils wieder von Erde überdeckt. Am Ende etwas "krautig".
