Guter Wasserstand, auch griffig zum gehen. Jedoch gibt es ein Abseiler wo der Stand nach hinten gerutscht ist, und Seil abziehen sehr mühsam ist. Beim grossen Abseiler ist eine Scharfe Kante nach 15m, unbedingt Seil nachgeben, nach einer Person war der Mantel bei unserem schon durch !
Good water level, also good grip for walking. However, there is a rappel where the stand has slid backwards and pulling off the rope is very difficult. At the big rappel there is a sharp edge after 15m, be sure to give rope, after one person the coat was already through with ours!

Wasserstand war hoch, und vor allem auch sehr milchig, deswegen unsicher ob die gerade etwas an der Wasserfassung machen. Wir sind stattdessen Crêtés machen gegangen.
The water level was high, and above all very milky, so we weren't sure if they were doing anything at the water intake. We went to make crêtés instead.

Grösstenteils ein netter Canyon ohne weiteres, die zwei Plattenabseiler durch die Blöcke durch sind aber sehr ästhetisch.
For the most part a nice canyon without further ado, but the two slab abseils through the boulders are very aesthetic.

Coole Sache, auch wenn sehr kurz. Wir wollten danach Rossmatterklön machen, dort floss aber kein Wasser mehr. Es ist wohl besser die Kombi im September versuchen.
Cool thing, even if it was very short. We wanted to do Rossmatterklön afterwards, but there was no more water flowing. It's probably better to try the combination in September.

Acceso por el nuevo recorte. Aproximación en 3h algo expuesto, importante que no haya nieve-hielo en las paredes. Unos de los tramo de escalada tiene un grado de 5+, 6a (colocamos cuerda fija) Dentro del cañón la obstruction de piedras e hielo ha caido cortando el paso por el cañón. Tuvimos que escalar y añadir 2 parabolt para llegar al río de nuevo. La sección estrecha está intacta. La parte inferior todo OK, añadimos un anclaje en la segunda cascada para poder bajar por dentro del agua
Access by the new cut. Approach in 3h somewhat exposed, important that there is no snow-ice on the walls. One of the climbing sections has a grade of 5+, 6a (fixed rope). Inside the canyon the obstruction of stones and ice has fallen cutting the passage through the canyon. We had to climb and add 2 parabolts to get to the river again. The narrow section is intact. The lower section all OK, we added an anchor at the second waterfall to be able to descend into the water.

Joa, kann man mal machen. Ist deutlich sportlicher als es auf den ersten Blick aussieht. Von 1800m bis 1400m eher wenig Haken vorhanden, da schadet es nicht weitere mitzunehmen.
Well, you can do that. It's much more sporty than it looks at first glance. From 1800m to 1400m there are rather few anchors, so it doesn't hurt to take more with you.

Jetzt mache ich auch noch eine Bewertung weil die andern nicht fähig sind halbe Noten zu geben XD. Hatten schon nicht die besten Bedingungen, aber 3 Sterne wäre schon unterm Wert der Schlucht, 3.5 passt besser.
Now I'll give it a rating because the others aren't able to give half marks XD. Didn't have the best conditions, but 3 stars would be below the value of the canyon, 3.5 fits better.

Beeindruckender Canyon! Hatten einen Mantelriss bei einer scharfen Kante beim ersten hohen Abseiler am Ende (wo sich die Schlucht öffnet). Eis in der Schlucht. Alle Stände i.O.
Impressive canyon! Had a mantle crack on a sharp edge on the first high rappel at the exit (where the canyon opens up). Ice in the canyon. All belays ok.

Oben schon Eis neben dem Wasser, nicht angenehm zum laufen, bei den 60m unten sehr viele instabile Blöcke, da ist uns ordentlich was runter und hat direkt das Seil durchtrennt.
At the top already ice next to the water, not pleasant to walk, at the 60m below a lot of unstable blocks, something fell down and cut the rope directly.

Ich mag diese Art von labyrinth Bächen, aber bei dem Wasserstand definitiv mehr was wenn man schöne Fotos machen will, als dass es viel Wasser Action verspricht. Wasssermenge hat sich nicht gross bewegt bis wir draussen waren (14:30).
I like these kind of labyrinth streams, but with the water level definitely more if you want to take nice photos, as it promises a lot of water action. The water didn't move much until we were outside (14:30).

Cooler canyon, Anfangs noch nicht so spannend, aber im Mittelteil geht es ab, und auch länger als erwartet. Haben 1 Mal ab Holz abgeseilt, ansonsten waren Haken vorhanden, auch wenn die manchmal schwierig zum entdecken sind.
Cool canyon, not so exciting at the beginning, but in the middle part it goes off, and also longer than expected. We rappelled once from wood, otherwise anchors were available, even if they were sometimes difficult to spot.

Wohl der lohnendste Canyon der Unlohnenden, oder umgekehrt, ich kann mich nicht entscheiden. Lohnend weil die Abseiler sehr cool sind, unlohnend weil es einfach zu oft 100m an Blöcke gibt zwischen den guten Stellen.
Probably the most rewarding canyon of the unrewarding ones, or vice versa, I can't decide. Rewarding because the rappels are very cool, unrewarding because there are simply too many 100m blocks between the good spots.

Sehr rutschig im Moment, ansonsten sehenswerter Canyon. Wenn es gerade nicht eng ist, sieht man schön auf die 4000er der Alpen gegenüber.
Very slippery at the moment, otherwise a canyon worth seeing. When it's not narrow, you have a beautiful view of the 4000-meter peaks of the Alps opposite.

Wir haben 3 Haken gesetzt, jetzt kann man wieder bis nach Bitsch runter gehen. Es ist aber immer noch abenteuerliches Gelände (schwierige Abkletterstellen), wir sind fast immer dem Wasser gefolgt, unter den Blöcken durch, manchmal wird es komplett dunkel :)
We set 3 anchors, now you can go down to Bitsch again. But it's still adventurous terrain (difficult downclimbs), we almost always followed the water, under the boulders, sometimes it gets completely dark :)

Jetzt ist auch wieder der 180er neu gebohrt. Es macht sicher Sinn wenn die Nächsten einen verstellbaren Schraubenschlüssel mitnehmen um auch die alten Haken mal anzuziehen, und auch die alten Verbindungsseile zwischen diesen Haken wegschneidet.
Now the 180 has also been re-drilled. It certainly makes sense for the next ones to take an adjustable wrench with them to tighten the old anchors and also cut away the old connecting ropes between these anchors.

Schöne Schlucht, dürfte gerne noch länger sein (sind deswegen danach noch ins Val Cocco). Der Sprung in die Maggia rein am Schluss ist auch noch eine coole Sache.
Beautiful canyon, could be even longer (that's why we went to Val Cocco afterwards). The jump into the Maggia at the end is also a cool thing.

Viele Plattenabseiler. Wir sind bei der neuen Brücke kurz vor Serenéll eingestiegen (im Nebenbach). Grund dafür waren arbeiten am Wanderweg wo sie fallende Steine in die Schlucht verursachten.
Many slab abseils. We got in at the new bridge just before Serenéll (in the side stream). The reason for this was work on the hiking trail where they were causing stones to fall into the canyon.

Haben 15 Haken gebohrt, leider ist der Akku direkt vor dem grossen 180er ausgegangen, also sind wir durch den Wald runter (sehr steil, aber man kann ohne Seil zu brauchen durch). Muss Ich halt nochmals zurück kommen mit 5 Haken, die Zwischenstände im letzten Wasserfall fehlen ja immer noch.
Drilled 15 anchors, unfortunately the battery ran out right before the big 180, so we went down through the forest (very steep, but you can get through without needing ropes). I have to come back again with 5 anchors, the intermediate pitches in the last waterfall are still missing.

Netter canyon, ich gehe wohl nächstens nochmals zurück um mit der Bohrmaschine ein paar MC Stellen zu entschärfen und noch ein paar mögliche Sprünge auszuchecken, jetzt hatte es zu viel Wasser um es mit sicherheit sagen zu können (grad von der Brücke am Anfang)
Nice canyon, I'll probably go back next time to defuse a few MC spots with the drill and check out a few more possible jumps, now it had too much water to say for sure (just from the bridge at the beginning)

Kurze Tour in der Nacht gemacht, in der Mitte kann man neu eine C5 durch einen Tunnel abklettern. Im roten Felsen am Ende sind wir gesprungen, ist aber nicht besonders tief.
We did a short tour at night, in the middle you can downclimb a new C5 through a tunnel. We jumped in the red rock at the exit, but it's not particularly deep.

Die Holzverblockungen sind kompakter geworden seit letztes Jahr, jetzt ist es einfacher geworden durch zu kommen (weniger Mikado Stellen). Wasserstand sportlich, beim 30er bis zum Zwischenstand spürt man ordentlich das Wasser in die Poren kriechen.
The wood blockages have become more compact since last year, now it's easier to get through (fewer Mikado spots). The water level is sporty, from 30 to the intermediate level you can really feel the water creeping into the pores.

Im Eis begangen, oben war das Eis dick genug um drauf zu stehen, später dann nicht mehr, und am Schluss war es ganz weg. Bewertung wohl so zwischen 3.5 und 4 Sterne. Noch sehr spärlich ausgestattet mit Haken.
Walked on ice, at the top the ice was thick enough to stand on, later it wasn't, and in the end it was completely gone. Rating probably between 3.5 and 4 stars. Still very sparsely equipped with anchors.

Haben von 1670m bis 1020m gemacht. Bis zu 1330m sind wirklich nur 2-3 Einzelne Stellen schön, der Rest ist voller Blöcken. Der untere Teil ist cool, aber eher was für Sammler, oder wenn ihr eine Sauna gleich danach geplant habt.
Have done from 1670m to 1020m. Up to 1330m there are really only 2-3 beautiful spots, the rest is full of boulders. The lower part is cool, but more for collectors, or if you're planning a sauna right afterwards.

Cool im 2024 sowas noch in der Schweiz erstbegehen zu können. Für Cotschna sollte man wohl Haken Setzzeug mitnehmen, zu dem sind wir heute nicht hoch.
Cool to be able to climb something like this for the first time in Switzerland in 2024. For Cotschna you should probably take anchors with you, we didn't get up there today.

Wir könnten einige Haken erneuern. Allerdings sind immer noch einige Haken grenzwertig oder fehlen (Abseilen von Verklausungen) Ab der hohen Straßenbrücke viele Tierreste im Canyon.
We could renew some anchors. However, some anchors are still borderline or missing (rappels from jams) From the high road bridge onwards, many animal remains in the canyon.

Wasserstand gut Alle Haken i.O Am hohen könnte man ganz unten nochmal einen zusätzlichen Haken setzen auf der gegenüberliegenden Seite, damit das abziehen der letzten Seillänge einfacher geht.

Oberer Teil: Unter dem Lawinenschnee kommt man gut durch. Achtung Steinschlag von der Seite. Zugang über die Felsen orograghisch rechts. Wenn man den im Buch beschrieben Zustieg nimmt braucht man zwingend noch Haken um in die Schlucht zu kommen. In der Schlucht sind alle Haken erneuert. Wasserstand ohne Probleme zu bewältigen bei frühem Start. Unterer Teil: Ungefähr 4 fache Menge an Wasser. Wir haben noch am dritten Abseiler eine neuen Haken gebohrt, damit der untere Abschnitt auch bei viel Wasser begangen werden kann. Der Fels ist auch rutschig.
Upper part: You can easily get through under the avalanche snow. Watch out for falling rocks from the side. Access via the rocks orograghically to the right. If you take the access described in the book, you still need anchors to get into the canyon. All anchors in the canyon have been renewed. The water level is manageable without problems if you start early. Lower part: About 4 times the amount of water. We drilled a new anchor on the third rappel so that the lower parts can be climbed even when there is a lot of water. The rock is also slippery.

Wasserstand sehr sportlich. Die oberen teile sind spärlich ausgerüstet. Einiges mussten wir springen oder umgangen werden. Zudem sind die oberen Teile sehr rutschig. Perfekt um sich aufs Maul zu legen. Der unterste vertikale Teil ist dafür sehr schön. Weniger rutschig und besser eingerichtet. Water level very sporty. The upper parts are sparsely equipped. We had to jump or go around some of them. The upper parts are also very slippery. Perfect for lying on your mouth. The lowest vertical part is very nice. Less slippery and better equipped. This part is also highly recommended and also works with a little more water.

Wir sind bei A Merisciöu auf 1270m eingestiegen (damit die ganze Tour 1000hm ergibt). Vor der Wasserfassung sind ein paar schöne Einzelstellen, aber insgesamt recht flach, und vor allem sehr viele Baumstämme. Bis nach Osogna runter haben wir zu dritt knapp unter 7 Stunden gebraucht, und sind so ziemlich alles gerutscht was rutschbar ist.
We started at A Merisciöu at 1270m (so the whole tour is 1000m). There are a few nice single sections before the water catchment, but overall quite flat, and above all a lot of tree trunks. It took the three of us just under 7 hours to get down to Osogna, and we slid pretty much everything that could slide.

In der ersten Schussrinne (3. Abseiler?), ist ein 50kg eingeklemmter Block an dem das Seil hängen bleibt. Der Stein bewegt sich aber ich konnte ihn nicht raus ziehen. Am besten ist wohl das Seil dort drauf abzuziehen, und dann die restlichen paar Meter abklettern und rutschen.
In the first chute (3rd rappel?), there is a 50kg jammed block on which the rope gets stuck. The block moves but I couldn't pull it out. The best thing to do is to pull the rope off and then downclimb and slide the remaining few meters.

Empfehlenstwert ist also der Einstieg über den linken Zufluss gegenüber von Orbel. Darunter alles bestens, viele Sprünge !
After the work, there is a lot of wood in the first third of the canyon, fortunately the water is not dammed up anywhere at the moment, but should be checked again at every major flood. Entry via the left tributary opposite Orbel is therefore recommended. Everything below is fine, lots of jumps!

The snowmelt is finally over! Amazingly lots of algae in the streambed, but not too bad where the water flows. At the rock arch waterfall (the penultimate rappel) the pool seems to be about 3m higher than usual, as the jammed rock does not siphon strongly. Pincascia water catchment at 0.8 to 0.9 cubic for reference.

Cooler Tag, aber recht lange, alleine um von Bellinzona/Locarno nach Indemini zu gelangen muss man fast eine Stunde fahren. Zum Teil sehr rutschig, so werden auch recht kleine Sprünge plötzlich viel anspruchsvoller als sie aussehen. Zustieg zum part 2 ist erstaunlich einfach.
Cool day, but quite long, just to get from Bellinzona/Locarno to Indemini you have to ride for almost an hour. Very slippery in places, so even quite small jumps suddenly become much more challenging than they look. Access to part 2 is surprisingly easy.

Cooler Bach, wird man selten in den perfekten Bedingungen haben wie es heute der Fall war (200mm Regen etwa 24 Stunden davor). Jedoch sollte die Nächste Gruppe unbedingt genug Haken mitnehmen, einige Stände fehlen auf den grossen Abseilern, und auch sonst sehen manche schon sehr mies aus.
Cool creek, you will rarely have perfect conditions like it was today (200mm of rain about 24 hours before). However, the next group should definitely take enough anchors with them, some stands are missing on the big rappels, and some of them look very bad.

Nicht weit weg tödliche Hochwasser und Murgänge, aber um Bellinzona und Biasca hat es sich in Grenzen gehalten. Nala und Boggera waren an dem Tag beide auf Gelb auf der Infoline. Auch wenn es nicht durchgespült wurde, ist es nicht allzu rutschig im Moment. Dennoch habe ich es langsam gesehen mit Boggera, freue mich wenn es nicht mehr regnet und die anderen grossen Klassiker auch wieder gehen.
Deadly floods and debris flows not far away, but around Bellinzona and Biasca it was limited. Nala and Boggera were both on yellow on the Infoline that day. Even if it wasn't washed through, it's not too slippery at the moment. Nevertheless, I've seen it slowly with Boggera, I'll be happy when it stops raining and the other big classics can go again.

Nichts spezielles zu bemerken. Nur der Seilzug auf dem 90m ist bei dem Wasserstand richtig heftig so dass man oben das Seil problemlos loslassen kann mit der tiefsten Reibungsstufe und es fängt nicht an zu rutschen. Danach geht es konzentriert kopfabwärts runter.
Nothing special to notice. Only the rope pull on the 90m is really strong at the water level so that you can easily let go of the rope at the top with the deepest friction level and it doesn't start to slide. Then it's a concentrated descent upside down.

Der war bei mir ziemlich weit oben auf der Liste der Bäche die ich in Neuseeland machen will, und bin sehr froh hat es geklappt, auch wenn ohne wirklich guten Fotos weil Leo's Handy davor kaputt gegangen ist, und in meins Wasser eingedrungen ist. Bach war rutschig, aber nicht störend beim Abseilen, und bei dem grandiosen Anblick ist das schnell vergessen.
It was pretty high up on my list of streams I want to do in New Zealand, and I'm very glad it worked out, even if without any really good photos because Leo's cell phone broke beforehand and water got into mine. The creek was slippery, but not disturbing during the rappel, and with the magnificent view this is quickly forgotten.

Somehow magical, some have been trying to tackle this monster for years, and we come along with no expectations, have the perfect weather window to take a chance, and it worked out perfectly. Somehow too perfect. We were only in the canyon for 10 hours, before that the fastest was 20 hours, so we were pretty stunned. But hopefully a few more teams will dare to tackle it now, because so far it's only been done every 5 years (2013 and 2018)

Endlich war die Zeit gekommen für Whirling. Nachdem schon über 10 Leute in dem Projekt involviert waren, konnten sich 7 davon auf ein Datum einigen um die erste Integrale zu machen (ein paar im Team hatten schon alle Abschnitte gesehen, aber noch nicht alles am Stück gemacht). Eine unglaubliche Tour an einem unglaublichen Tag, inklusive der Einrichtungen des Standplatzes um durch den "Detonator Pitch" zu gehen.
Finally the time had come for Whirling. With over 10 people already involved in the project, 7 of them were able to agree on a date to do the first integral (a few in the team had already seen all the parts, but hadn't done it all in one piece). An incredible tour on an incredible day, including setting up the stand to go through the "Detonator Pitch".

Cooler canyon, nur schade liegt es so weit weg von einer Strasse. Nur für Abruzzi da hoch kommen lohnt sich kaum, aber in Kombination mit Margaret Burn ist es definitiv eine tolle Tour.
Cool canyon, just a shame it's so far away from a road. It's hardly worth coming up there just for Abruzzi, but in combination with Margaret Burn it's definitely a great tour.

What a find of a first descent. Really the only canyon entry that I have seen that is as insane as this one, is the 60m drop in Gamchi in Switzerland. Overall it reminds me a lot of that one, the high walls at the entry, the black corridor to go out, it's just missing more rappels.

Had drilled the canyon on 24.09. After a lot of rain the days before we had already set up the Hüttenwistobel because the surrounding canyons had too much water. Haben den Bach ab einer Höhe von 2180m begangen. Interessanterweise ist der Abschnitt zwischen 1900m und 1800m nicht eingerichtet aber danach wieder. Die Nächste Gruppe sollte also ganz sicher etwa 8 Haken mitnehmen (+2 Reserve für weitere blöde Abkletterstellen). Insgesamt aber eine super Tagerstour !
Have walked the stream from an altitude of 2180m. Interestingly, the parts between 1900m and 1800m are not equipped, but after that again. So the next group should definitely take about 8 anchors with them (+2 reserve for more stupid downclimbs). All in all a superiore day tour!

Beautiful views, and beautiful gulches, but almost no water at this time of year. We have drilled up to 2140m, there would still be a step between 2180m and 2140m, which I think should also be achievable if someone wants to hang on.

Everything was climbed, in the lower part an anchor flew out together with the rock. About 150 kg of rock landed right next to me, lucky me. The place can actually also be downclimbed.

We went in the day after a storm, and arrived at the start of the Inferiore pretty battered (bloody hands just from holding the ropes). Certainly more fun with less water. But otherwise a great experience.

Eine Woche nach dem grossen Hochwasser was den Wanderweg und Brücken zerstört hat. Viele Haken auf 3 oder -1m, knifflige Abkletterstellen dadurch. Habe ein paar Haken gesetzt, aber nicht so dass man jetzt gemütlich durch die Schlucht kommt. Es ist aber eine schöne Tour.
One week after the big flood which destroyed the hiking trail and bridges. Many anchors at 3 or -1m, tricky downclimbs as a result. I set a few anchors, but not so that you can now get through the canyon comfortably. But it is a nice tour.

Ist OK zum machen falls man mal vorbei fährt und gerade ins Wasser Springen will, zu viel muss man aber nicht erwarten.
It's OK to do if you're passing by and just want to jump into the water, but you shouldn't expect too much.

Als Anfänger Tag mit der Amicale Canyon gemacht. Jetzt wo der Grossteil von dem Müll aus der Schlucht ist, werden wohl die Bewertungen klar nach oben gehen, die Schlucht ist schon imposant.

Oh was für eine grossartige lange Tour. Mit Stirnlampe begehen wenn man unter die Blöcke durch will. Bohrmaschine unbedingt mitnehmen, da bewegt sich ordentlich was bei Hochwassee. Manche Passagen sind echt der Hammer! Da komm ich wieder mal.
Oh what a great long tour. Walk with a headlamp if you want to go under the blocks. Be sure to take a drill with you, there is a lot of movement in the high water. Some passages are really awesome! I'll be back again.

Tolle Sache, oben noch richtig kalt, und sobald das Wasser versickert und die Sonne heraus kommt, sucht man nach Wasserbecken.
Great thing, still really cold at the top, and as soon as the water seeps away and the sun comes out, you start looking for pools of water.

Dachten es sei eine Erstbegehung, aber es war schon eingebohrt. Dennoch cool, auch wenn man nicht viel Zeit im Wasser verbringt.
Thought it was a first ascent, but it was already drilled in. Still cool, even if you don't spend much time in the water.

Ich sehe mir gerade Fotos von einer Wanderung dort an. Obere Oeschinenfälle sah nicht allzu wild aus für Mitte Sommer, die Frage ist nur, ob es nach dem Zusammenfluss immer noch so ist.
I'm just looking at photos from a hike there. Upper Oeschinen Falls didn't look too wild for mid-summer, the only question is whether it will still be like that after the confluence.
