High side of low water level. Running clear. About 90min car to car (lower entry point). Before the second creek comes in from the left side, we didn't get the rope out. All the slides were good to go!! Immediately after the creek enters from the left, the next pitch could possibly be slid, but could be... uncomfortable! Incredibly beautiful rock formations. A little dark at times. Super fun and easy canyon. Wouldn't underestimate it in higher flows - as there is no opportunity to escape. However, you could certainly push the levels if you knew the section well and were a strong swimmer! Super good, definitely worth visiting. Loses half a star for moderate levels of rubbish at the start.

Lots of slides and jumps possible. The water is tainted brown, so inspection is mandatory... Full of commercial bolts and fixed ropes, which makes access quite easy.

It's quite pretty. Very well established. Fixed ropes the whole way down - we didn't take ours out of the bag. The water was quite stained and the jumps didn't look that enticing. Very simple walk in, and it's all over quite quickly.

Anchors in here were good - but many are bent, and a few are quite strange expansion bolt + chain with no hanger type jobs... Not immaculate... The canyon is unreal. Probably nudging V4 and A4 realistically, especially with a better flow than today. The rock is mega grippy, but some of the anchors are probably more involved to access than V3 would suggest. I suspect all the abseils could be jumped (you'd want to have a really really good look with goggles... and be an exceptionally firey individual)

I've attached the water level photo (from the main road) below. This is seriously fun. It starts with the longest rapel (could be a slide on the left!?), then a few more little rapels - but soon the ropes go away, and it's jumps and slides the rest of the way! Very easy in here to get the bag stuck in a little hydraulic at the bottom of the slide - or in the cave on the left below another slide! Be careful with it. Definitely worth bringing a scuba mask to inspect pools, and a jumar to whip back up for another slide or jump!! The slide immediately after the little bridge (exit) is also super fun.

Many possible cool jumps, a few slides. Super clean abseil. Beautifully sculpted rock. Call the dam keeper before you go and when you finish. It is committing for when you don't know it or the level, but once you know it's very very easy to bomb down quickly.

Really worthwhile section, with a handful of jumps, and some classy abseils. Really cool constricted section. Would certainly be exciting with more water!!! Quite a few single bolt rapels. Yuck Not stupidly slippery, but certainly not grippy!! Worth mentioning, one of the later 12m (or so) rapels can be jumped - however it is crucial to jump a long way out (from the anchors) to avoid hitting the bedrock underneath the whitewater. Probably much safer to jump from the left side... Water reference photo from the bottom of Inferiore.

This canyon just needs another 50,000 years, and it'll be five stars. Numerous tantalising slides that just didn't quite seem worth it today - so close to being okay, but worth the risk? For someone, for sure!!! The anchoring in here is pretty random. There are a lot for singles, that should be doubles... I'm surprised they aren't given the quality of the canyon, and the location. It is slippery. You only need a 60m rope.

Long day in there. Over six hours - with the swimming and boulder navigation really hurting our time. The anchors are all there, but they're only just okay. I was under the impression this was a popular canyon, and therefore would be maintained as such - that was incorrect to assume. Many many more bolts would be needed if it wasn't such amazingly grippy rock!! There are a lottt of features missing in the topo. Numerous jumps and downclimbs that aren't highlighted. It's pretty rare to get an easy V2, V3 hundred metres. The demand for at least a little attention is nearly constant. The Slide of Death was not as rowdy as I imagined. Its reputation must come from pure volume of people that *used to* go down in the old days where it was a guided section. However, if this is all you want, just enjoy Bodengo 2 and repeat the two awesome slides on that section a bunch! Bodengo 3 has a lot of good value if you like to jump, but it is quite a grind.

Very unusual canyon. Unique rock features and many passages in complete darkness, closer to caving than canyoning. For flows, the dam keepers house is on the true right side of the dam. The people in the refugio will also help you. The day before we went down there was a release. Very grippy rock in most sections. Finding your way at times could be confusing, especially into the second section. Don't bring a crappy headtorch!!

In the cafe, we overhead some people talking about their recent trip down. All stands were perfect, beautiful new linked glue-ins. Where the nice new bolts end (just a little after an old dam) there is one final exciting 6-8m jump, then you should exit the canyon on the right side before the final two abseils. They said the water was incredibly clear and not cold. The rock was mostly very grippy. They said it was really fantastic. Took them 6 hours car to car. What a shame it's not allowed right now. :-(
25.06.2025 Val Clusa Jason Walker ★★★★★ 📖 ★★★ ★★★ 💧 Low Completed ✔
We entered at the dam, after following the metal railing down to it. The dam was nearly spilling, however the water flowing out was minimal, maybe 1m2. This was the slipperiest canyon we have ever been down. All the rocks are covered in alge. The anchors were adequate, however you would be stupid to go down without some material to replace a couple of helpful threads. At this flow, all the anchoring was sufficient. Some abseils have both dry and wet lines. I think if it wasn't so slippery, there would have been numerous opportunities to jump. However, we were not very confident with the take-off spots given the lack of friction.

Very rewarding canyon. We had a water level of 2.36 m^2/s which was ideal. The anchors were in very good condition and really well placed. One stand at a downclimb was probably newly set shortly before our ascent as we found drilling dust on the anchor.

At about 2meters of water, all the bolts you need are there, and are good. There are a few occasions where maybe another would be nice, but we managed fine. Numerous features at this flow looked scarier than they really were. Many of the features are deep enough to jump, but an almost equal number had hidden shallow rocks under the white water. This canyon is outstandingly good. Very deep cut, fantastic rock, and at roughly 2m the water is threatening, but didn't ever feel like too much to manage. The most difficult parts are not when rappelling, but instead when you're forced to navigate sloping terrain within the flow. There are numerous little jumps, climbs, and down climbs, that comprise some of the hardest moves during the descent. While the rock for us was pretty grippy, there are also times when it is slippery! The dam poses a constant risk, and while we were near the end it opened momentarily. While we didn't notice a difference in water height, the clarity degraded dramatically and the water became full of debris.

This is a truly pretty canyon, with great rock, slides, a jump or two, and heaps of abseils. The canyon is a bit of a bolt graveyard unfortunately with numerous smashed anchors left to stain the canyon for generations. The anchors that survive are fine, but could do with new linking material. Obviously this canyon gets very very high and violent at times (hence the busted anchors). Overall could do with a big makeover with strong unlinked glue ins, and probably needs any fixed ropes to be replaced annually... Super nice canyon to visit!

The tape can be a little tricky to spot on the walk in. We jumped the first main abseil! The final abseil we made a guided rapel off of a tree which was pretty fun. The walk down to the weir is pretty, with a few interesting parts.

The grading - at low flows (as pictured in this write up) its probably closer to V4, A2 or A3. The flow is never an issue except getting smashed at R4 anchor. At medium flow though, its likely the water would be a bigger issue. Its a super cool day out, and a fun mission when its 30+ degrees at the bottom of the valley.

Great value. The start to the approach is a little hard to find - walk east of the bridge, then between two road edge reflectors about 40m apart, you'll know youre in the right place when you find the worn track. Sensational. One of the pretiest canyons ever. A few nice sporty jumps, some cool abseils, and best of all some sporty moves off of ropes navigating little downclimbs through the water flow. The water level was super low when we went through, and this made it very friendly. Its easy to see why it may become A5 with more water. Many of the anchors are quite high, so it was nice that the rock was not at all slippery when we went through!

The anchors are quite often on trees with quite old rope. It may be newer than it looks, but I'd go in there with a plan to replace them if I was going to repeat it. The bolts on the first big abseil are (apparently?) missable. They are on the right side, just out of view, not below the main lip of the waterfall!!! Quite good with a heap of rain in the valley currently. Grippy rock.

I suspect that this is the upper limit of the canyon without lingering psychological trauma afterwards! Yesterday, there was about 1/2 as much water, and we suspected double the flow would be okay. Photo from the takeout.

Despite most other canyons locally being too high for us to attempt, this was probably only at about medium water level, and could probably take double the water in the photo of the bottom fall (you have to walk through water to check it from the carpark).

Probably the most geologically stunning canyon I have been in. Sensational carving of the rock thoughout the constrictions. Amazing slides, and cool jumps, combined with super beautiful (and incredibly slippery) abseils! Currently, the roughly 5m fixed line on the right side leading to above the 50m abseil is very coreshot, and needs replacing. Everything else we used was good.

Abseiling canyon - more or less. There are a few jumps, but not like other canyons around here. The granite is slippery in the water, which would make a high flow descent quite scary, especially given the (at times) tricky anchor locations. The very last feature requires a steady approach to avoid sliding off of the lip (I think you would survive, and suspect somebody has at least once slid off of it on purpose!) By myself in 2 hours car to car with a bag that was slow to pack after every abseil. Much more flow than the attached photo and I wouldn't be keen to solo it!
15.09.2024 Iragna (Inferiore) Jason Walker ★★★★★ 📖 ★★★ ★★★ 💧 Normal Completed ✔
A lot less jumping and sliding than the Intermedio. Still a few slippery granite pools to walrus out of! Again, can imagine it would be spicey at higher flows, and you may want a belay - you certainly wouldn't want to try to climb out with a water filled backpack! I completed both Intermedio and Inferior car to car in about 2hours 15 minutes, the hardest part being heaving around a stupid big rocksnake backpack with 100m of 9mm in it! The abseils, slides and jumps were all obvious and posed no problem :) Reference picture for flows.
15.09.2024 Iragna (Intermedio) Jason Walker ★★★★★ 📖 ★★★ ★★★ 💧 Normal Completed ✔
Not sure the canyon is "technically demanding" compared to others. Perhaps at higher flows actively belaying is nessesary to avoid being washed over the next waterfall. The infinity pools and slippery wet granite would prove very difficult in high flows for sure. At the level I went down at, it was easy. Slides and jumps. A fixed line abseil or two. Super super good. Packed full of guests on the weekends! Picture for flow reference. It hasn't rained here in a while, so perhaps this is actually a low flow, not normal?

Super nice section at normal flows. When we tried to descend earlier this year (after the massive rain) it was certainly a lot more water. Super amazing section of rock and water. Slides and jumps everywhere. Also people everywhere. It's probably not a great canyon to learn canyoning in as a private group, just because of how busy it could be in there... the water is also quite cold!

After a high flood, the rocks are currently super grippy! Lots of fixed material damaged, but metal points still fine. Murky water makes jumping difficult. Super beautiful and diverse rock during the descent, and an old archway on the left side early on. Very cool.

You can divide the section into an upper and lower part, with the obvious wooden walking bridge being the mid way point. Above this, the maximum abseil is 20m, and there are many slides and jumps. It's a simple walk in and out, with ample parking. Below this, the maximum abseil is 50m. Commercial groups maintain the quality of anchors and handlines. The water is rarely clear, so it's good to check the jumps!! The gauge is at the main road, before driving up the broken dirt road. We completed the whole thing at this flow, but it could have taken 1-2cm of water over the concrete sides of the weir (at a good guess!!!)

High end of low water level. High water would be quite exciting in there if it was also slippery, but the canyon is bolted quite well. A generous 60m rope will do you in here 😉 The dam is currently full of sand/rock, so no real danger of them opening it up on you. Stacks and stacks of jumps possible in there - possibly the most jumpy canyon around 😀 The abseils are also quite nice, albeit slippery. The walk-out was not so bad - if youre good at rock hopping it doesn't take long at all, the whole tour (with a shuttle driver) only took me 3 hours and 15 minutes, jumping lots of the pitches! One of the best canyons around this region 🙌

Lower half this time. Water level was the high end of low. See attached photo from bottom section entrance / top section exit. Very slippery rock - more than other canyons around. The action pieces are quite good, but not great. This is followed by a lot of tedious wet boulder hopping. The bolting is lacklustre. Although someone has been through with some shiny gear and red glue, many old crap 6-8mm pieces remain. Don't go in without a hand bore set and surplus anchor material. Many wet slippery downclimbs.. would be very scary in highwater (and could be considered very sparsely protected for a high water level descent) Unlikely to become a classic.

Would say today was the low side of medium. Some tricky to access abseil stations - but enough bolts for sure. It gets a 5/5 if you walk up the river right side from the church to the top. The car shuttle option seems kinda dumb - it's a cool walk up, and probably safer and faster.

The causeway/ford gauge is quite misleading currently. Today it was well and truly dry, and not even close to water flowing over it, and I'd call it the high end of low. Maybe even a low-medium. The double bolts at the start on the left side are missing hangers!! They are just naked bolts in the rock. We rapped off of a sling around a tree (which we later retrived). The canyon itself is comparable to the polished sandstone walls we are familiar with in Aus. Quite deeply cut, super cool smooth rolling lips for the water features and deep pools to jump into. Very very worthwhile just to check it out. We only did the primary constriction, and then walked back up to the car. The grade feels a little soft, and I think it could pretty easily get A3.

We completed the upper (superior) section. The upper big abseil was in the flow, and a lot more water would make this, and numerous other (often insignificant) downclimbs very very difficult - hence the claim that today was high water. We attached a photo of the Nero at the lowest bridge. The canyon was incredibly slippery, with one downclimb proving very very exciting due to the risk of slipping off of the lip and into the pool below. The bolts/hooks up here were fine - but regularly single, occasionally unlinked, but always solid. Could do with a couple more for high water descents as the downclimbs had enough water to be concerning today. Also attached, a view from the takeout (for the upper)

All stands fine - not amazing. All anchors were double bolt, but often one bolt was marginal. The picture attached - the flow at the top was fine, but felt like it could have taken more. However, the final waterfall with a lot more flow would be quite intimidating. The traverse to the second stand for the final drop is a little slippery and awkward with a big bag on. The stainless rap ring on this stand was looking a little old - and will likely need replacing soonish.
