Vor dem Schluchtbeginn Wasserrinnsal, das mit dem Anfang der Verengung schnell endet. Schön ausgeschliffener Kalkstein, der sich im Sonnenlicht teilweise in's Rötliche färbt. Mehrere Klemmblöcke. Attraktiver als aufgrund der vorhandenen Infos vermutet.
Water rivulet before the start of the gorge, which quickly exits at the beginning of the narrowing. Beautifully polished limestone, some of which turns reddish in the sunlight. Several clamping blocks. More attractive than expected from the available information.

Bei der etwas heiklen Querung vom Steig in das Bachbett Handlauf angebracht. Haken ok. Überwiegend Sonneneinfall in der Schlucht. Ideale Einstiegszeit wäre insoweit 11.15(Sommerzeit). Totholz bei diesem relativ geringen Wasserdurchsatz kein Problem.
At the somewhat tricky traverse from the climb into the creek bed handrail attached. Hooks ok. Predominantly sunshine in the gorge. Ideal entry time would be 11.15(summer time) in this respect. Deadwood not a problem at this relatively low water flow.

Stände ok. Gumpen ziemlich aufgekiest. Bei der Stahlseiltyrolienne sollte man sich so weit vom Drahtseil nach unten abhöngen, dass man bei der Ankunft so viel Boden unter den Füßen hat, dass man sich ausbinden kann (Foto). Diesmal sind wir entsprechend der Beschreibung in Amor/Riml im Bach hinausgelaufen Richtung Ache und haben dort ein Steimännchen gesetzt, wo wir die Uferböschung hinauf auf den Pfad zur Straße geklettert sind (Foto)
Stands ok. Gumpen pretty much gravelled up. At the steel cable tyrolienne should be hunted down so far from the wire rope that you have so much ground under your feet on arrival that you can untie yourself (photo). This time we walked out in the stream according to the description in Amor/Riml in the direction of the Ache and have set there a Steimännchen, where we climbed up the embankment onto the path to the road (photo)

Everything as 1 week before. This time roped from the handrail right into the gully, instead of under the first deadwood stump below. Were late because of previous Reposoir-Begehung, therefore no one seen in the gorge.

Parken in der Straßenkehre. Zu Fuß in 15 Min. zum Bildstock. Gumpen ziemlich aufgekiest. Trotzdem die meisten Sprüne und die Rutsche am Schluß machbar. Der Rückstieg zur Straße ist mit etwa 10 Min. zu veranschlagen.
Parking in the bend in the road. On foot in 15 min. to the wayside shrine. The pools are quite graveled. Nevertheless, most of the sprays and the slide at the end doable. The return to the road is to be estimated at about 10 min.

Den Wasserstand habe ich bisher noch nie so bescheiden erlebt. Das Totholz über der rinne war offenbar herausgesägt, sodass man in der Rinne selbst absteigen konnte. Nur eine weitere kleine Gruppe gesehen, da Regentag - aber mit "Sonnenfenster" in der Schlucht. Absprung zum hohen Sprung unangenehm rutschig. Ausweichparkplatz jetzt auf Wiese nördlich der Ortschaft.
I have never experienced the water level so modest before. The deadwood above the gully was apparently sawed out so that one could descend in the gully itself. Only saw one other small group, as rainy day - but with "sun window" in the gully. Descent to high jump unpleasantly slippery. Alternate parking now on meadow north of village.

Eingekeilt zwischen zwei großen kommerziell geführten Gruppen bewegten wir uns abwärts. Allerdings relativ schnell, weil uns die Kenntnis der Guides einige Abseilvorgänge ersparte und sie uns soger netterweise zweimal die von ihnen gespannte Tyrolienne anboten. Ein dickes merci an dieser Stelle! Wegen des mäßigen Wasserdurchsatzes keinerlei Probleme. Die Canyonisten werden mit Schildern aufgefordert, bei dem Servicegebäude südlich des Ortes ihr Auto zu parken.
Wedged between two large commercially guided groups, we moved downward. However, relatively quickly, because the knowledge of the guides saved us some abseiling and they even kindly offered us twice the tyrolienne stretched by them. A big merci at this point! Because of the moderate water flow no problems at all. The canyoneers are asked with signs to park their car at the service building south of the place.

Zu Beginn Schwierigkeiten bei der Wegfindung. Bei der Holperrutsche nach dem 2. Abseiler vermisse ich einen Haken für eine Situation mit starkem Wasserdurchsatz. Der attraktive Sprunggumpen aufgekiest. Die Wegfindung für einen zügigen Ausstieg gestaltete sich schwierig.
At the beginning difficulties in finding the way. At the bumpy chute after the 2nd rappel I miss a hook for a situation with strong water flow. The attractive jumping pit is gravelled. The wayfinding for a speedy exit turned out to be difficult.

Stände ok. Handlauf zum höchsten Abseiler erneuerungsbedürftig. Letzter Abschnitt des Zustiegs nicht mehr über die Wiese unterhalb der Spätenbachalpe, sondern über die Wiese nördlich davon. Beim Wegweiser vor der Alpe links ab und über die Wise (Spur) hinunter, dann Seitenbach nach rechts queren und durch den Wald - Elektrozaun - hinunter zum Einstieg. Falls Fußweg durch die Rappenlochschlucht, von der Dornbirner Ach direkt hinauf zur Straße.
Stands ok. Handrail to the highest rappel in need of renewal. Last section of the approach no longer over the meadow below the Spätenbachalpe, but over the meadow north of it. At the signpost in front of the alp, turn left and descend via the Wise (track), then cross Seitenbach to the right and through the forest - electric fence - down to the entrance. If footpath through the Rappenlochschlucht, from the Dornbirner Ach directly up to the road.

Haken ok. Da den Kettenstand nach dem 4. Abseiler unter die Felswand zu spät gesehen, haben wir um den Klemmblock links under der kleinen Felswand eine Bandschlinge gelegt und sind von dort zum Stand über der 28m-Doppelstufe geseilt.

Weithin unbekannte Schlucht. Die Stände sind überwiegend mit lediglich 1 Befestigung ausgestattet. Die Durchnummerierung läßt eine zeitweise kommerzielle Begehung erahnen. Nach dem 6. oder 7.Abseiler (die Abseiler sind durchnummeriert) ist ein seitlicher Felssturz in die Schlucht gefallen. Dadurch sind 1-2 der alten Abseilpunkte zerstört. Wir haben uns mit Abseilen von Totholz beholfen. Die Situation wirkt hier noch etwas labil.
Widely unknown gorge. The stands are mostly equipped with only 1 attachment. The numbering suggests an intermittent commercial access. After the 6th or 7th rappel (the rappels are numbered), a lateral rockfall has fallen into the gorge. This destroyed 1-2 of the old rappel points. We helped ourselves with rappels from deadwood. The situation here still seems a bit unstable.

Das war meine 19. (neunzehnte) Begehung des Rio Vero, Er war auch mein erster Canyon, den ich anno 1991 im zarten Alter von 49 Lenzen beging. Mit meiner ältesten Tochter stapften wir von der Puente Villacantal flussauf, weil uns meine französischen Canyoninginformanten nicht auf die Gehrichtung aufmerksam gemacht hatten. Eine Unzahl "Falschgeher" kam uns entgegen ... Diesmal direkter Einstieg am Wehr (Zur Kombination mit Portiacha und Chimiachas stehen meine Videos im Netz). Diesmal Portiacha Höhlung, Abschluß Basaender und Cocineta (Chimiachas-Schlußabseiler) lediglich angeschaut. Ausstieg von Puente Villacantal zunächst auf Gitterrostweg an der Felswand abwärts, dann auf Spuren des aufgelassenen Weges hinas zum Campiong Rio Vero.
This was my 19th (nineteenth) ascent of the Rio Vero. It was also my first canyon, which I climbed in 1991 at the tender age of 49. With my oldest daughter we trudged upstream from the Puente Villacantal, because my French canyoning informants had not pointed out to us the direction of the walk. A myriad of "wrong-directioners" came towards us ... This time direct entry at the weir (For the combination with Portiacha and Chimiachas my videos are in the net). This time, Portiacha cave, final Basaender and Cocineta (Chimiachas final rappel) only looked at. Exit from Puente Villacantal first on grating path down the rock face, then on traces of the abandoned path hinas to Campiong Rio Vero.

Gewarnt wird vor einer Mini-Rutsche, die hinter einen unter dem asserspiegel liegenden Felsriegel abfällt und so vor allem bei starkem Wasserdurchsatz zum Bruch des Schienbeins führen kann. Den Parkplatz kann man statt von Prades-Villerach auch von Osten her anfahren, aber Piste schlecht.

Alle Haken ok. Bis auf den ersten Abseiler (12m) alle anderen mit Fixxseilen ausgestattet, viele Handläufe, teilweise um zu den Sprungplätzen zu kommen. Nach der Brücke empfiehlt sich der Ausstieg (nach rechts), wenn man vor sich eine lange gerade Strecke mit Blöcken sieht. Die Zufahrt auf der orograf. rechten Bachseite ist eine Privatstraße, kaum geeignete Plätze, um das Auto zu Parken. Auch wir hatten Ärger mit einem Anwohner, obwohl er weit entfernt von unserem Parkplatz seine Wohnung hatte.

After the bridge, the exit (to the right) is recommended when you see in front of you a long straight stretch with blocks. The access on the orograf. right side of the creek is a private road, hardly suitable places to park the car. Vom Beginn der Schluchtaufweitung weg waren die Haken nicht konsequent in der Falllinie des Baches gesetzt. So sah man sich wiederholt zu längeren Schrägabseilern genötigt. Immerhin konnte man sich an einem hier ganz seltenen Wasserdurchsatz erfreuen.

Im Verhältnis zu meiner 1.Begehung anno 2019 hat sich nichts entscheidend verändert. Auch diesmal haben wir den bequemen Einstieg über die Piste gewählt. Hat auch den Vorteil, dass ggf. die Beschäftigten des Kleinkraftwerks zur Kenntnis nehmen, dass nun jemand in der Schlucht zugange ist. Alle Haken ok. Im Laufe des Abstiegs wurde vom Kleinkraftwerk offenbar zusätzlich Wasser abgelassen. Trotzdem war der Durchsatz unproblematisch. Folglich war auch im 2. In relation to my 1.Begehung anno 2019 nothing has changed decisively. Also this time we have chosen the convenient entry via the slope.
