Der Canyon ist tief eingeschnitten und zeichnet sich vor allem durch zwei äußerst spektakuläre Abseilstellen aus. Die höchste Abseilstelle liegt quasi am Anfang. Schnellstraße VE2 von Seixal bis Porto Moniz. Mit nur einem PKW kann man gegebenenfalls in Ribeira Funda parken (Siehe Parkplatz Zustieg). Größe Gruppen mit mehreren Fahrzeugen sollten am Ortsausgang von Seixal (Siehe Parkplatz "Zustieg und Austieg") parken, was den Zustieg erheblich verlängert. Es ist nicht empfehlenswert, ein Auto vor dem steilen Tunnel nahe des Ausstieges (Parkplatz Ausstieg) zu parken, hier kommt es oft zu Steinschlag aus den darüber liegenden Steilhängen. AUF KEINEN FALL in dem neueren Rettungstunnel parken, hier gibt es Tickets und / oder das Fahrzeug wird abgeschleppt.

VE2 highway from Seixal to Porto Moniz. If you only have one car, you can park in Ribeira Funda (see parking lot for access). Large groups with several vehicles should park at the exit of Seixal (see parking lot "Access and exit"), which considerably extends the access. It is not recommended to park a car in front of the steep tunnel near the exit (exit parking lot), as there is often rockfall from the steep slopes above. DO NOT park in the newer rescue tunnel, you will be ticketed and/or your vehicle will be towed away.

Ab Ribeira Funda ist es ein kurzer, leicht zu findender Wanderweg zum gleichnahmigen Canyon. Er beginnt am Parkplatz rechts neben den Haus. Diesem Weg immer folgen, ohne dabei nach links in die Plantagen abzubiegen. Nach gut 10 Minuten erreicht man das meist trockene Bachbett des Canyons. Im Funda einsteigen oder alternativ dem Weg weiter zum Terra d'Alem folgen, welcher im Verlauf in den Funda mündet.

From Ribeira Funda it is a short, easy to find hiking trail to the canyon of the same name. It starts at the parking lot to the right of the house. Always follow this path without turning left into the plantations. After a good 10 minutes you reach the mostly dry streambed of the canyon. Enter the Funda or alternatively follow the path to Terra d'Alem, which flows into the Funda.

Es beginnt mit abklettern, einem kleiner Abseiler und einer kurzen Laufstrecke. Dann folgt der 60 Meter hohe Wasserfall, für welchen es sowohl rechtsufrig als auch linksufrig (am Baum) Ankerpunkte gibt. Für beide Abseilstellen gibt es Anker für ein Seilgeländer / Zubringer, für den rechtsufrigen Zubringer zum Standplatz des C60 liegen diese sehr weit zurück. An den beiden Standplätzen ist für maximal drei Personen Platz, bei größeren Gruppen muss daher Seil für die Zubringer (2x20m) eingeplant werden. Diese kann man dann auch hervorragend an den kurzen Abseilstellen benutzen. Unterhalb des C60 ist der Canyon tief eingeschnitten, am nachfolgenden C8 wird es fast dunkel. Es folgene mehrere kleine bis mittlere Abseiler, maximal zwei Mal springbar. Der C22 zum Abschluss ist noch einmal ein wunderschöner Wasserfall inklusive Meerblick.

It starts with a downclimb, a small rappel and a short run. This is followed by the 60 meter high waterfall, for which there are anchor points both on the right bank and on the left bank (on the tree). For both abseil points there are anchors for a rope traverse / feeder, for the right-bank feeder to the belay station of the C60 these are very far back. There is room for a maximum of three people at the two belays, so larger groups must plan for ropes for the feeders (2x20m). These can then also be used for the short abseils. Below the C60, the canyon is cut deep, at the following C8 it becomes almost dark. This is followed by several small to medium rappels, jumpable a maximum of twice. The C22 at the end is another beautiful waterfall with sea views.

Die Tour endet direkt an der alten Küstenstraße am Atlantik. Dieser folgt man nach rechts wenige Minuten zum Ausstiegsparkplatz. (ca. 5 Minuten) Mit nur einem PKW, der in Ribeira Funda steht, erklärt sich der Rückweg von alleine, nach dem Übersteigen der Mauer einfach die alte Straße durch die Tunnel nach Ribeira Funda gehen (ca. 15 Minuten). Wenn Sie auf dem offiziellen Parkplatz geparkt haben, dann folgen Sie der alten Straße weitere 700 Meter, bis Sie auf die neue Straße treffen. Hier links zum Parkplatz. (ca. 10 Minuten)

The tour exits directly at the old coastal road on the Atlantic. Follow this road to the right for a few minutes to the parking exit. (approx. 5 minutes) With only one car parked in Ribeira Funda, the way back is self-explanatory. After climbing over the wall, simply follow the old road through the tunnels to Ribeira Funda (approx. 15 minutes). If you have parked in the official parking lot, follow the old road for another 700 meters until you reach the new road. Turn left here to the parking lot. (approx. 10 minutes)

Der Wasserstand ändert sich von Tag zu Tag ohne erkennbaren Grund. Manchmal hat man direkt ab dem Start einen kleinen Durchfluss, manchmal sind die ersten 200 Meter trocken. Spätestens am hohen Wasserfall speisen diverse Quellen den Canyon. Nach sehr langer Trockenzeit fallen im unteren Bereich einige Stellen trocken (zuletzt beobachtet im Sommer 2023). Bei hohem Durchfluss wird der letzte Wasserfall kritisch, es gibt unten zwei Klebehaken auf einem großen Felsblock für einen Rappel Guidé.

The water level changes from day to day for no apparent reason. Sometimes there is a small flow right from the start, sometimes the first 200 meters are dry. At the latest at the high waterfall, various springs feed the canyon. After a very long dry season, some places in the lower area fall dry (last observed in summer 2023). At high flow, the last waterfall becomes critical, there are two glued anchors on a large boulder at the bottom for a Rappel Guidé.
