About You:
Hello. I live in South Tirol and have been involved in canyoning for more than 10 years. I have done courses of 1 week each at the Italian canyoning association. We have been doing some exploration of new routes for a few years now.

We had hoped that, given the almost total lack of snow and the virtually non-existent rainfall in the preceding months, the water level would be lower than normal, but we were wrong! Every descent is treacherous because it is very slippery, as is reaching certain anchors, even with a handrail. The anchors are often positioned on the ground or set back, which makes it difficult to retrieve the rope. Diving is not recommended as there are sharp rocks scattered haphazardly about! We gave up on the lower section, which is graded A5, as the middle section (A3) had already taken us three hours today.

Descended with plenty of flow,we also wanted to descend the lower part but for us the flow was too much. Weapons sometimes a little hard to find and in um little uncomfortable positions. Below are two photos with normal/low flow and on the right when we descended

Perfekt waterflow, sunny day, no cold water, nice leave color. (drysuite)

We did it yesterday at 24.9 with lots of water. There aren't any particular problems because the last 3 rappels can also be done outside the flow. We used the website https://www.floods.it/public/Charts.php?Sensori[]=28159 as a reference. The normal level is about 0.060m (6cm), we covered it with 0.13m and if you are not familiar with the gorge, the descents in the flow are not trivial. We descended the beautiful Val d'Ortiè on 15 August 2025. We added bolts in the first part (1670m-1575m) in two places (fix and ring), particularly on the first narrow 30m wet waterfall where we didn't actually see any old bolts (there should actually be an R7+R30). However, there is now an exposed L30 (you may need to secure yourself to reach it, as there is no handrail). Further downstream, we used a tree to overcome a few metres of difficult downclimbing. In the second part (1575m-1350m), after a flat section, the gorge gradually narrows with some very beautiful sections. Here, it is generally better equipped in some places (a few double bolts, but usually single, often new). At 1350m, a clear path (R) emerges. We tried to continue (small toboggan), but we did not find any anchors at the next obstacle, and in any case, the gorge is cluttered with many stuck trees! In general, however, some anchors are single with only a plate in the flow (bring some quick links to leave behind) or supplement with anchors to be positioned better or doubled up!

Ascended on foot in 1h on very comfortable trails (pfeifental hof, 5a, 2). Descended in 5h very calmly and in two people. (watch out for the black arrow on the guard rail for the entrance). In the middle big fallen trees slow down the progression a bit. In general good anchors (very recent) especially in the second half: attention only to check presence of next anchor before pulling down the rope (often you have to continue by rope). With high flow it becomes a challenging gorge (many hanging pools and rappels in flow)
