SS51 to Picnic Area Val Tovanella

(15min vom Picknick Parkplatz) Vor der Tour sollte der Wasserstand beim letzten Wasserfall in der Nähe des Picknickplatzes kontrolliert werden (Aufwand 5min.). Man folgt der Bergstraße mit der Holztafel Val Tovanella auf der orographisch re Schluchtenseite. Weiter oben überquert man den Bach über eine Betonbrücke mit Blick in die Schlucht. Dann überquert man noch 2 weitere Holzbrücken bevor man zu einer geeigneten Stelle (kaputtes Holzgeländer) kommt. Hier in den Bach vor der schon gesichteten Geschiebesperre aus Eisen einsteigen. Einstieg auf ca. 570m.

(15min. from the picnic parking lot) Before the tour, check the water level at the last waterfall near the picnic area (5 min.). Follow the mountain road with the wooden sign Val Tovanella on the orographic right side of the gorge. Further up, cross the stream over a concrete bridge with a view into the canyon. Then you cross 2 more wooden bridges before you reach a suitable spot (broken wooden railing). Enter the stream here before the iron debris barrier you have already seen. Entry at approx. 570m.

Nach dem Durchschlupf bei der Geschiebesperre folgt man anfangs einer noch ehr offenen Schlucht mit kleinen Abkletter- und Abseilstellen bis ca. 5m. Die Schlucht verengt sich mit dem fortschreiten Zusehens. Auf künstliches Licht kann in der Regel verzichtet werden, jedoch sind manche Abschnitte sehr dunkel und spannend wenn man die Schlucht noch nicht kennt. Ab der Mitte wird die Schlucht richtig interessant. Nach einem kleinen Sprung in einen dunklen Gumpen kommt man zu einen auf der re Seite hoch angebrachten Seilgeländer mit Standplatz, von dem man sich dann ca. 15m in eine kleine Grotte abseilt. Es folgt eine kurze enge Gehpassage, bevor man zur Eisenbahnbrücke kommt. (Hier könnte man mit sehr viel Geschick die Eisenbahnbrücke Leiter für einen Notausstieg erreichen/nutzen.) Die nächste 20m Abseilstelle wird zum Teil in der Wasserführung absolviert und der Seilabzug findet im Gumpen statt. Im Anschluss kommt eine kleine 2m Stufe (Stand li) die zum letzten 12m Wasserfall führt. Hier öffnet sich die Schlucht auch wieder. Das Becken ist unterschiedlich Tief, ein Sprung sollte daher gut überlegt sein!!! Nach dem letzten Abseiler auf ca. 500m endet die Schlucht.

After slipping through at the debris barrier, you initially follow an open canyon with small downclimbs and abseils up to approx. 5m. The canyon narrows visibly as you progress. There is generally no need for artificial light, but some parts are very dark and exciting if you are not yet familiar with the canyon. From the middle, the canyon becomes really interesting. After a small jump into a dark pool, you come to a rope traverse high up on the right side with a place to stand, from which you then rappel about 15m into a small grotto. This is followed by a short, narrow walking passage before you reach the railroad bridge. (With a great deal of skill, you could reach/use the railroad bridge ladder for an emergency exit). The next 20m abseil is partly completed in the water and the rope retrival takes place in the pool. This is followed by a small 2m step (stand left) that leads to the last 12m waterfall. Here the canyon opens up again. The pool varies in depth, so a jump should be well considered!!! The canyon exits after the last rappel at approx. 500m.

Nach dem letzten Gumpen folgt man dem flachen Bachbett bis zur Kiesbank vor der Straßenbrücke. Hier li zum Picknick Parkplatz aussteigen bzw. zurück zur Parkmöglichkeit am Zustiegsweg.

After the last pool, follow the shallow streambed to the gravel bank in front of the road bridge. Here you are left at the picnic parking lot or return to the parking area on the access path.
