Lower entry point of Caldone

From Lecco, drive up the SS36 towards Valsassina. After the tunnel, you will reach a roundabout in Ballabio, where you take the SP62 towards Morterone. At the end of the village, turn left towards Morterone (SP63). The road briefly goes downhill here towards the industrial area. Before the "Grigna Color" company, turn right and drive over the small bridge. About 50 meters after the bridge, there is a dirt road on the right (with large stones). Follow this dirt road until you reach the no-entry sign. Park the shuttle vehicle here (45.883311, 9.427962).

From the lower parking lot, follow the dirt road on foot (high-voltage power lines), descending gently until the end. Before the maintenance tunnel, an inconspicuous path leads up to the left, passing a small ruin. Then turn right toward Passo del Lupo. The last short lower section begins at approximately 560m after the weir/dam (under the road bridge).

The lower section of the gorge carries less water. At the water diversion, on the left you will find an iron pin with a welded chain link, which is used to set up the rope for the slippery rappel. At the next step, there are only 2 old expansion bolts. The other short rappels, however, are well-equipped. Even though the lower part carries only a little water, it is still worthwhile. After the last cave-like constriction, you reach a water pipe; at this point, at approx. 500m, you exit the creek on the left.

Follow the hiking trail on the orographic left alongside the creek. At the small power house, cross the creek over a small bridge. After the bridge, turn left and follow the dirt road.
