We did it today, yes the approach is not for everyone especially the part from val rotta to entry, bid exposed bit steep, but easly found. First part of the canyon before you meet rio montasio. Was dry, missing the water would be nice after rain. But probably rio montasio would be problematic. Rio montasio beauty but short. Too short. Approach 1hr 50 is right. Canyon 2hr taking it easy with 4. Exit 35 mins. All anchors were fine, for an adventure canyon no need to drill extra bolts

We did it today. Yes, the approach isn’t for everyone—especially the section from Val Rotta to the entrance, which is quite exposed and a bit steep, but easy to find. The first part of the canyon before you reach Rio Montasio was dry; it would be nice to have water there after it rains. But Rio Montasio would probably be problematic. Rio Montasio is beautiful but short—too short. The 1 hr 50 min approach time is accurate. The canyon took 2 hours at a leisurely pace with four people. The exit took 35 minutes. All anchors were in good condition; for an adventure canyon, there’s no need to drill extra bolts.

Easy acces within few minutes from the upper parking. Wide and open lots of escapes. Between abseil 5 and 6 there is a dead goat in the pool (17-6-2026) strong smell in de next abseil and water sections. There is 1 km of boulder walking in between and at the end it takes about 30 minutes of boulder walking again.

In the last section (3th) you can make a slide/jump into a small steep walled water reservoir. ⚠️ be careful there is a huge wood clog floting around, it’s invisible just below the water surface.

Nice half a day tour, first section filled with a lot of wood, middle and third section no specific remarks. Low but still “cold” water. Some jumps are possible we decided to descend all waterfalls, MC and handlines are adequate and in good condition.

The final descent is 30m instead of the 25m mentioned in the recent Cascades & Canyon Ain Jura guidebook by JT (2025)

Visited twice on Sunday and Monday, already significant less water the next day.

The downstream parking is not available, it’s forbidden to enter the road to the electricity station. (August 2025) Park somewhere in the small village is your only alternative. Don’t disturb the neighborhood while chancing your clothes.

Normal summer waterflow. Lot of (commercial ) groups in the canyon.

From corner of the cemetery, walk uphill to point A on the map crossing the river and continue on the left-hand side of the river. Pass a water reservoir and follow a well-marked path in serpentines. Exit B to the corner of the cemetery, don’t use this small (exit) path to enter the canyon. From point B climbing up is to steep and dangerous!

Normal water flow. No special remarks. Please note, enter the canyon after 9:00 and exit before 18:00. At the upper start point next to the bridge there is a waterpoint to fill up your water bottle.

We made contact with Mr. Carciu of the Tervolit HEC before our descent as suggested by Pascal in the guidebook. At the hydro dam all water was taken into another capture so we started completely dry. There is a local man living next to the dam, he is also very concerned about your safety and reminds you if there is permission of the HEC to enter the canyon. The canyon was easy, climbing and sliding and some descents. One bolt was missing so we had to make an extra long descent at one of the stations. The original bolt was cut off by debris, this happened already several times according to Pascal. The last part of the canyon was an easy walk out, there are some (hot) springs along the hugh canyon wall. This canyon is highly recommended. And if you have energy and time enough it could be combined with the Gjërzezë canyon next to the entrance of the Holtit.
