Von Domaso fährt man auf der SS38 bis zur Ortschaft Ardenno. In Ardenno geht es dann auf die Bergstraße SP9 nach Val Masino hinauf. Direkt vor der Ortschaft San Martino (923m) hat man einen großen kostenpflichtigen (ca. €1,/Std.) Parkplatz. Um den Zustieg/Zeitaufwand möglichst gering zu halten leistet man sich am besten einen der kleinen Schuttlebusse. Die Schuttlebusse fahren in der Hauptsaison die Leute vom Parkplatz auf der, für den Transitverkehr, gesperrte kurzen Straße (SS404) bis zum Parkplatz vor der Ferro (Hin-und Rückfahrt €4,- p/P).

From Domaso, take the SS38 to the village of Ardenno. In Ardenno, take the SP9 mountain road up to Val Masino. Directly before the village of San Martino (923m) there is a large paid parking lot (approx. €1./hour). To minimize the time required for access, it is best to take one of the small shuttle buses. In the high season, the shuttle buses drive people from the parking lot on the short road (SS404), which is closed to transit traffic, to the parking lot in front of the Ferro (round trip €4,- p/p).

Vom Umkehrparkplatz vor der Ferro sieht man schon die letzten Kaskaden. Hier folgt man der Steinpflasterstraße ein kurzes Stück zurück bis zur kleinen Brücke, die über die Ferro führt (Wasserstand Kontrolle; läuft das Wasser bei der Brücke/Stufe über die ganze Breitseite hat man für die zweite Engstelle in der Schlucht meist zu viel Wasser! Evtl. rechts umgehen oder erst gar nicht einsteigen!) . Ab der Brücke folgt man den Weg auf der orographisch rechten Bachseite durch den Wald hoch. Nach ca. 35min. auf ca. 1300m steht man ganz in der Nähe vom Bach. Hier den Weg nicht mehr weiter nach links hoch sondern kurz rechts zum Bach queren. Der Einstiegt liegt unterhalb der Materialseilbahnseile und Blockgelände.

From the turnaround parking lot in front of the Ferro, you can already see the last cascades. Follow the cobbled road back a short distance to the small bridge that crosses the Ferro (check the water level; if the water is walking across the entire width of the bridge/steps, there is usually too much water for the second narrow section in the canyon! Possibly go around to the right or don't get in at all). From the bridge, follow the path on the orographic right side of the stream up through the forest. After approx. 35 minutes at approx. 1300m you are very close to the stream. Do not continue up the path to the left but cross briefly to the right to the stream. The entrance is below the material ropeway ropes and boulder terrain.

Die sehr offene und nach Süden ausgerichtete Granitschlucht beeindruckt mit seiner schönen Bergkulisse und höheren glattgeschliffenen Abseilstellen in glasklarem Gebirgswasser. Wegen dem großen und hoch gelegenen Einzugsgebiet ist die Ferro oft erst im Herbst möglich. Es gibt zwei Schlüsselstellen/Engstellen in der Schlucht die bei höherem Wasserstand unangenehm/gefährlich werden können. Die erste Engstelle ist nur kurz jedoch in einer Kaskade mit tiefen Gumpen in der Mitte der eine starke Strömung erzeugen kann. Bei der zweiten Engstelle sollte der Wasserstand unbedingt passen, sonst kann es schnell brenzlig werden. Sollte man sich nicht 100% sicher sein, sollte besser rechts zu einem Baum (mit Schlinge) hochgestiegen werden. Von diesen kann man sich dann außerhalb der Wasserführung zu einem weiteren Baum abseilen. Vom zweiten Baum seilt man sich über eine schräge Felsplatte bis zum letzten Standplatz (siehe Topo). Am letzten ca. 45m Abseiler angekommen wird man oft von Kletterer, die hier links eine Kletterroute haben, beobachtet.

The very open and south-facing granite gorge impresses with its beautiful mountain scenery and higher, smoothly polished abseils in crystal-clear mountain water. Due to the large and high-altitude catchment area, the Ferro is often only possible in the fall. There are two key points/constrictions in the canyon that can become unpleasant/dangerous at higher water levels. The first narrow section is only short but in a cascade with deep pools in the middle that can create a strong current. At the second narrow section, the water level must be right, otherwise it can quickly become dicey. If you are not 100% sure, it is better to climb up to a tree (with a sling) on the right. From this you can then rappel outside the water to another tree. From the second tree, rope down a sloping ledge to the last belay (see topographic view). Once you reach the last approx. 45m rappel, you will often be observed by climbers who have a climbing route here on the left.

Nach dem letzten ca. 45m Abseiler verlässt man den Bach auf ca. 1100m auf der rechten Seite. Von hier folgt man den schon bekannten Wanderweg der in Kürze zum Schuttlebus-Parkplatz hinunter führt.

After the last approx. 45m rappel, you leave the stream at approx. 1100m on the right-hand side. From here, follow the familiar hiking trail that leads down to the Schuttlebus parking lot.
