Von Airport Nizza auf der N 202 in Richtung Digne. Nach 22 km passiert man die Abzweigung in das Tal der Vesubie. Etwa 4 km weiter durchfahren wir zwei kleine Tunnel und erreichen dann die Brücke über den Var vor dem großen Tunnel. Die alte N 202 nach Digne ging hier früher am orograf. li. Ufer des Var aufwärts. Jetzt ist aber dieser Streckenteil gesperrt und so fahren wir durch den langen Tunnel. Am unübersichtlichen Tunnelende Pont de la Mescla fahren wir nicht weiter auf der N 202, biegen auch nicht in das Tinée-Tal ab, sondern suchen uns die alte N 202, die ostwärts am li. Ufer des Var verläuft. Wir folgen der alten N 202 ca. 2km und sehen dann links den 50-m-Schlussabseiler . Hier das Fahrzeug abstellen.

From Nice Airport, take the N 202 in the direction of Digne. After 22 km we pass the turnoff to the valley of the Vesubie. About 4 km further we pass through two small tunnels and then reach the bridge over the Var before the big tunnel. The old N 202 to Digne used to go up here on the orographic left bank of the Var. Now, however, this part of the route is closed and so we drive through the long tunnel. At the unclear end of the tunnel Pont de la Mescla we do not continue on the N 202, we do not turn off into the Tinée valley, but look for the old N 202, which runs eastward on the left bank of the Var. We follow the old N 202 for about 2km and then we see the 50m final abseil on the left. Park the vehicle here.

Man geht die N 202 etwa 500 m flussabwärts und kommt zu einer Markierung "106", wo li. der Weg zum Weiler La Reveston abgeht. Diesen erreicht man nach ca. 1 Std. (560 m ü.NN). Von hier kann man hinunter zum unteren Abschnitt des Balma. Wir gehen jedoch bei der Markierung "109" weiter Richtung La Madone d'Utelle. Wir passieren zwei Taleinschnitte, bevor wir auf 670 m ü.NN eine kleine Betonbrücke erreichen. Von hier links zum Einstieg.

Go downstream on the N 202 for about 500 m and you will come to a marker "106", where the path to the hamlet of La Reveston branches off to the left. You will reach it after about 1 hour (560 m above sea level). From here you can go down to the lower part of the Balma. However, we continue at the mark "109" towards La Madone d'Utelle. We pass two valley cuts before reaching a small concrete bridge at 670 m a.s.l.. From here turn left to the entry.

Der Canyon führt im oberen Viertel nur nach Regenfällen Wasser. In einer Grotte entspringt dann Wasser, das aber im Hochsommer keinen Wasserdurchsatz bis unten garantiert. Aussichtsreich der Stand über dem hohen Schlussabseiler (7m/43m). Der Canyon bietet Abwechslung und den schönen 50-m-Abseiler. Fazit: kein Highlight, aber auch kein Reinfall, sofern Wasser fließt. Das kann jedoch unterhalb des Weilers Reveston verunreinigt sein (Waschmittelgeruch!).

The upper quarter of the canyon only carries water after rainfall. Water then springs up in a grotto, but this does not guarantee a flow of water down to the bottom in high summer. The belay above the high final abseil (7m/43m) offers great views. The canyon offers variety and the beautiful 50m rappel. Conclusion: not a highlight, but not a failure either, as long as there is water flowing. However, this can be contaminated below the hamlet of Reveston (smell of detergent!).
