Summary:
Dry, overgrown ravine with 6-7 rappels (up to 25 m) on minimal equipment, in dense vegetation; little aesthetic value apart from the view of the lake at the end. No escape on the last rappels.
Access:
From Gréoux-les-Bains, take the D952 towards St-Martin-de-Brôme for about 1.2 km. Then turn right to Esparron-de-Verdon on the shore of the lake of the same name. Cross the village centre and go around the castle. Then leave the road to Quinson 50 m after the castle by turning right towards the campsite "Le Soleil". Follow this small road to its end, where it turns into a track. Park without blocking the way just before the section of track reserved for the fire brigade.
Approach (35 min):
Walk a few metres down towards the lake and take the path climbing on the left towards the top of the hill (botanical trail). At the top, continue on the same path until it meets a track leading right to a hunters' cabin. Behind the cabin, a hunters' trail leads to the bottom of the Bouisse ravine. It is advised to first follow the ravine on the right bank because of the dense vegetation for a good hundred metres before entering it. Access is risky during the hunting season.
Tour (1 h 30):
The descent consists of 6 or 7 rappels, some of them not very aesthetic, in rather dense vegetation where a machete is useful, strewn with some old traces of water (old potholes, lapiaz, outlets of fossil networks...). The only positive point is the view of the lake on the final section. No escape on the last rappels. Equipment is minimalist: single-point bolts (8 mm studs with chain links) and rope slings with links on natural anchors (done in January 2017). Remarks: Risky access during the hunting season. Slippery rock after rain. Bring something to cut a few branches, as the vegetation is king. Risk of falling blocks on the left bank during the down-climb leading to the top of the R30 (cracked rock at the base of the cliff).
Return (15 min):
At the small final pond at the foot of the last rappel, exit on the right bank and follow the faint paths along the lake to the track where your vehicle is parked.
