From Varallo, take the Val Mastallone road and follow it to Fobello, then continue to the end of the road near Santa Maria, where you leave it at the last parking lot (la Gazza)

From the parking there are two paths; follow the one on the left (515 CAI), which almost runs alongside the Mastallone stream, passing through a pretty village. Then, cross a bridge over the Mastallone and go up the Piane valley. After a 15-minute climb, you'll find a hut on the right, then the valley levels out, continue past some huts (Alpe Quartiere), then the path passes alongside a ravine, continue the ascendt until you clearly see the last 2 waterfalls of the upper section, then another 5 minutes of hike lead to "Alpe Piane", with some huts... here leave the path to continue across the meadow without losing elevation, then reach the stream via the easiest route.

Start with a short walk and immediately encounter the first waterfall, C8 (right), from a cluster of bushes. Below, on the left, is the anchor chain for the C20 (left)—pass the hanging pool. Then comes an MC6 + C15 (left), leading to the final rappel: MC5 + C26 (right), away from the water flow. Alternatively, go left for a C26 directly in the flow (single).

After the last waterfall, if you want to exit towards the trail, descend for a short distance among the boulders and then hike up the left slope to reach the path. If you wish to continue to the middle and lower sections, you must walk along the stream bed for 20 minutes.
