Summary:
Vertical canyon with a continuous sequence of rappels within a narrow slot for the first part, then sunny and open in the final rappels; water levels are low or dry in summer, but the first narrow section becomes highly technical in spring when water flow is high.
Access:
From Varallo Sesia continue on SP299 to Alagna Valsesia; after the village of Boccorio, there is a tunnel: immediately after the tunnel and before the bridge on the Sesia river, turn right on a smaller road, after about 100 m, leave the car in the parking area.
Approach (35 min):
From the parking area, follow the dirt road to the right; after about 200 meters, you will see red and orange markers on the right. Ascend through the woods, following the markers along faint paths and old trails. You will reach a grove of large beech trees and then a power pylon; continue the steep ascent, still following the red/orange markers. At a certain point, you emerge from the woods and the path becomes more distinct, winding along the easiest lines of the steep slope (markers continue). You arrive near the stream, then the path enters in the canyon, here is the start of the lower Parete.
Tour (2 h 30):
You immediately find the first points (right) for the handrail that leads to the first R15 left, entering in the narrowest section of the canyon, then you find MC8 (right) and R25 (right), really narrow. Then 2 short rappels lead to the highest waterfall of the canyon (about 70 m), split in R20 (left) + R30 (left, sharp edges) + R20 (left, diverter, narrow in the final meters), at the bottom of the waterfall there is an emergency exit. Then the canyon opens up and with some easy rappels you arrive to the final R30 (right).
Return (5 min):
Continue following the stream and after 50 m you come back to the dirt road and the parking.
