Aufgrund der leichten Erreichbarkeit, den schönen Sprüngen und den vielen Notausstiegen, schleifen kommerzielle Anbieter an schönen Wochenenden massenweise Touristen durch den Bach. Diese können aber meistens gut überholt werden. Autobahnabfahrt Dornbirn Süd und dann weiter Richtung Gütle. Am besten man lässt beim Gasthof in Gütle ein Rad (bzw. zweites Auto) stehen und fährt mit dem Auto weiter Richtung Ebnit. Man überquert die Rappenlochschlucht über eine Brücke und nach weiteren 650m zweigt links ansteigend eine Strasse ab. Dieser folgt man bis auf einen Sattel wo man parken kann.

Freeway exit Dornbirn Süd and then continue in the direction of Gütle. It is best to leave a bike (or second car) at the inn in Gütle and continue by car in the direction of Ebnit. Cross the Rappenlochschlucht gorge over a bridge and after another 650m a road branches off to the left uphill. Follow this road until you reach a saddle where you can park.

Man folgt der Strasse noch etwa 80m bis links eine Forststrasse abzweigt der man bis zur Brücke über die Kobelach folgt.

Follow the road for about 80m until a forest road branches off to the left, which you follow to the bridge over the Kobelach.

Gemütlich folgt man dem Bach bis dieser sich völlig unerwartet einschneidet. Hier wird linksseitig abgeseilt, nicht gerutscht. Das Becken ist nicht tief genug. Es geht in enger Umgebung über mehrere kleinere Sprünge und einen 12m Abseiler hinab. Nach ca. 45 min wird das Gelände wieder offener und man kommt zu einem großem Tümpel der eigentlich zum Springen einlädt. Doch Vorsicht dieser muss geprüft werden. Immer wieder versandet! Bei der Staumauer angelangt ist man am Ende von Merlin's World. Man steigt rechts über eine Metallleiter aus und folgt dem Weg abwärts bis zu einer kleinen Brücke. An der Staumauer ist orographisch links im Fels ein Kettenstand eingebohrt, der das Abseilen von der Staumauer ermöglicht. Alternativ steigt man vor der Staumauer links aus. Hier kommt man zu mehreren Fixseilen im Wald und schließlich auf den Wanderweg in Richtung Amannsbrücke. Als äußerst netter Abseiler kann man hier ca. 25m aus dem Fenster der Brücke (Abseilstelle eingerichtet) auf eine Erhöhung (rechts) abseilen und von dort nach Prüfung springen oder man steigt vor der Brücke links ab und wieder in die Kobelache hinein. Die Umgehung links ist durchaus eine lohnenswerte Alternative. Hier steigt man in den unteren Teil ein. Wieder geht's zuerst dem offenen Bach entlang bis dieser wieder unvermittelt enger wird. Unter einer Brücke vorbei gelangt man zum ersten höheren Sprung den man durch ein Fixseil auf der linken Seite erreicht. Gleich danach folgt der höchste Sprung der Tour, doch auch hier ist Vorsicht geboten. Der Tümpel ist nicht überall gleich tief! Die nächsten beiden im Topo eingezeichneten Sprünge (S6, S3) unbedingt prüfen. Nach einem C6 folgt wieder offeneres Gelände mit Rutschen und kleineren Sprüngen. Man gelangt zur höchsten Abseilstelle mit 25m, wobei hier von verschiedenen Ständen abgeseilt werden kann. Am offensichtlichsten und schönsten ist es direkt durchs Wasser abzuseilen (linker Stand), am einfachsten von ganz rechst im Trockenen (hierzu muss man etwas aufklettern über einen Felsen. Der Stand ist Talwärts, nicht sichtbar von oben. Bei viel Wasser seilt man hier trocken ab). Dann wird's nochmals eng und man kommt zum großen Finale: Eine 3m Rutsche endet in einem 5m freien Fall. Man plumpst sanft in einen riesigen dunklen Tümpel, herrlich! (Alternativ dazu, kann von über der Rutsche gesprungen werden ca. 14 m, dafür vor der Rutsche den Bach auf ca. 2m höhe springend queren. Auf der orographisch linken Seite ist ein Haken für ein Seilgeländer.)

Follow the stream at a leisurely pace until it cuts in completely unexpectedly. Here you rappel to the left, not slide. The pool is not deep enough. It goes down in a narrow area over several smaller jumps and a 12m rappel. After about 45 minutes, the terrain becomes more open again and you come to a large pool that actually invites you to jump. But be careful, it needs to be checked. It keeps silting up! When you reach the dam wall, you are at the exit of Merlin's World. Exit the path on the right via a metal ladder and follow the path downhill to a small bridge. At the dam wall, there is a chain anchor drilled orographically into the rock on the left, which allows you to rappel from the dam wall. Alternatively, exit to the left before the dam wall. Here you come to several fixed ropes in the forest and finally to the hiking trail in the direction of Amannsbrücke. As an extremely nice rappel, you can abseil approx. 25m out of the window of the bridge (rappel point set up) onto an elevation (on the right) and jump from there to the test or you can descend to the left before the bridge and back into the Kobelache. The bypass on the left is definitely a worthwhile alternative. Here you path into the lower part. Once again, you first follow the open stream until it suddenly narrows again. Pass under a bridge to reach the first higher jump, which is reached via a fixed rope on the left. This is immediately followed by the highest jump of the tour, but caution is advised here too. The pond is not at the same depth everywhere! Be sure to check the next two jumps marked on the topographic view (S6, S3). After a C6, more open terrain with slides and smaller jumps follows again. You reach the highest rappel point at 25m, where you can rappel from various stands. The most obvious and most beautiful is to rappel directly through the water (left belay), the easiest from the far right in the dry (you have to climb up a bit over a rock. The belay is towards the valley, not visible from above. If there is a lot of water, rappel here dry). Then it gets tight again and you come to the grand finale: a 3m slide exits in a 5m free fall. You plop gently into a huge dark pool, wonderful! (Alternatively, you can jump from above the slide at approx. 14 m, but cross the stream at a height of approx. 2 m before the slide. There is an anchor for a rope traverse on the orographic left side).

Man folgt noch kurz dem Bach, bis man auf der rechten Seite auf einen Weg aussteigen kann. Dieser führt uns direkt zurück zum Gütle.

You follow the stream for a short while until you can exit onto a path on the right side. This leads us directly back to the Gütle.

Die Kobelache mündet in die Enz, welche einen automatischen Pegel hat. Bis 2 m³/s sollte die Kobelache machbar sein. Bei mehr als 2 m³/s sollte ein örtlicher Canyonführer mitgehen, da viele Stellen umgangen werden müssen und Rutschen/Sprünge teilweise nicht machbar oder lebensgefährlich sind.

The Kobelache flows into the Enz, which has an automatic water level. The Kobelache should be doable up to 2 m³/s. Above 2 m³/s, a local canyon guide should accompany you, as many places have to be bypassed and slides/jumps are sometimes unfeasible or life-threatening.
