Von Domodossola Süd fährt man auf der SS33 Hauptrichtung Milano. Dann bei der unübersichtlichen Ausfahrt Piedimulera/Vogagna/Pallenzeno abfahren. Beim 1. Kreisverkehr fährt man li Richtung Vogagna. Beim nächsten Kreisverkehr re Richtung Piedimulera und beim 3. Kreisverkehr gerade aus. Dann re halten, Richtung Macugnaga. Ab hier folgt man ca. 30min der Bergstraße. Nach der Ortschaft Ceppo Morelli, scharf rechts die sehr steile Bergstraße nach Mondelli hoch. Nach mehreren engen Serpentinenkurven endet die Straße am Parkplatz Mondelli (beschränkte Parkmöglichkeit).
From Domodossola South take the SS33 main road towards Milano. Then take the Piedimulera/Vogagna/Pallenzeno exit. At the 1st traffic circle turn left towards Vogagna. At the next traffic circle turn right towards Piedimulera and at the 3rd traffic circle go straight on. Then keep right, direction Macugnaga. From here follow the mountain road for about 30min. After the village of Ceppo Morelli, take a sharp right up the very steep mountain road to Mondelli. After several tight serpentine curves, the road ends at the Mondelli parking lot (limited parking).
Avvicinamento (15 min): ➜
Vom Parkplatz aus folgt man der Wanderwegbeschilderung Richtung Passo Mondelli. Bevor man zum Einstieg hochsteigt sollte man den Wasserstand am Ausstieg der intermedio kontrollieren. Dafür geht man am schön bemalten Haus den Wanderweg li Richtung Macugnaga bis zur Brücke hinunter. Nach der Kontrolle geht man wieder zurück in den Ort und weiter hoch Richtung Passo Mondelli. Ohne eine Abzweigung zu nehmen, verfolgt man den Weg bis zur Beschilderung "Cascata Mondelli". Hier li weiter bis zum Bach(Einstieg Mondelli intermedio) auf ca. 1260m gehen.
From the parking lot, follow the signs for Passo Mondelli. Before going up to the entry, check the water level at the exit of the intermedio. To do this, go down the path to the left of the beautifully painted house in the direction of Macugnaga until you reach the bridge. After the check, go back to the village and continue up towards Passo Mondelli. Without taking a fork, follow the path until you reach the sign "Cascata Mondelli". Here continue on the left until you reach the stream (entry Mondelli intermedio) at about 1260m.
Giro (2 h): ➜
Jeder der die Seiltechniken für aquatische Schluchten beherrscht, sollte diese Schlucht mal gemacht haben (vorausgesetzt das Wetter und der Wasserstand spielen mit). Die Schlucht bietet alles was ein erfahrenes Canyonauten-Herz höher schlagen lässt; Abseilstellen im Wasser, Sprünge und Rutschen in tiefe glasklare Gumpen. Von Anfang bis Ende sehr kontinuierlich. Die schönen Gumpen und der Wasserdruck sollten aber nicht unterschätzt werden da gerade im unteren Teil der Mondelli intermedio, einige Becken rückläufig werden können. Der erste hohe Abseiler kann auf der rechten Seite komplett umgangen/abgeklettert werden. Die Standplätze der darauffolgenden Abseilstellen sind meist so angebracht, dass man auch außerhalb des Wasserstrahls abseilen kann. Canyonauten die gerne springen und Rutschen kommen voll auf ihre Kosten und sparen ca. 30min im Abstieg. Der Ausstieg ist vor der Brücke auf 1150m.
Anyone who has mastered the rope techniques for aquatic canyons should have done this canyon (weather and water level permitting). The canyon offers everything that makes an experienced canyoneer's heart beat faster; abseils in the water, jumps and slides into deep, crystal-clear pools. Very continuous from start to exit. The beautiful pools and the water pressure should not be underestimated, however, as some pools can recede, especially in the lower part of the Mondelli intermedio. The first high rappel can be completely bypassed/downclimbed on the right side. The stands for the subsequent rappels are usually positioned so that you can also rappel outside the water jet. Canyoneers who like to jump and slide will get their money's worth and save about 30 minutes on the descent. The exit is before the bridge at 1150m.
Ritorno (15 min): ➜
Nachdem letzten Gumpen vor der Brücke (auf ca. 1150m) sollte re ausgestiegen werden. (Ab hier fängt der noch anspruchsvollere untere Teil der Schlucht an). Hier geht man li über die alte Holzbrücke und in Kürze zurück zur Ortschaft und Parkplatz.
After the last pool before the bridge (at about 1150m) you should get out on the right. (From here begins the even more demanding lower part of the canyon). Here you go left over the old wooden bridge and shortly back to the village and parking lot.

I've attached the water level photo (from the main road) below. This is seriously fun. It starts with the longest rapel (could be a slide on the left!?), then a few more little rapels - but soon the ropes go away, and it's jumps and slides the rest of the way! Very easy in here to get the bag stuck in a little hydraulic at the bottom of the slide - or in the cave on the left below another slide! Be careful with it. Definitely worth bringing a scuba mask to inspect pools, and a jumar to whip back up for another slide or jump!! The slide immediately after the little bridge (exit) is also super fun.

Heute Mondelli 1,2 und 3 begangen. Wie immer einen wunderbare Tour. Speziell im MIttelteil wurden viele Stände erneuert (Kettenständen). Wir kennen die Tour gut und waren zu zweit gut unterwegs. Oberer Teil ca 1 std Mittlerer Teil ca 1 std Unterer Teil ca 2 std Ein must todo wenn man in der Gegend ist

Mondelli ist ein fantastischer Canyon. Bei eine Canyoning Tour im Mondelli bleiben keine Wünsche offen: Viele tolle Rutschen, einige geile Sprünge und viele fantastische Abseilstellen. Die Landschaft ist sehr schön und man hat eine großartige Aussicht. Was fehlt sind tiefe Einschnitte: Es sind immer mal wieder nur ein paar Meter. Diesen Canyon sollte man bevorzugt bei Sonnenschein besuchen. Es lohnt sich! Der Canyon ist lang, besser nicht an einen Tag begehen, sondern Zeit lassen, Spaß haben und an der Brücke nach Mondelli aussteigen und später wieder dort einsteigen.
Mondelli is a fantastic canyon. A canyoning tour in the Mondelli leaves nothing to be desired: Lots of great slides, some awesome jumps and many fantastic abseils. The scenic landscape is very beautiful and you have a great view. What's missing are deep gulches: there are only a few meters every now and then. This canyon should preferably be visited when the sun is shining. It is worth it! The canyon is long, so it's better not to do it in one day, but take your time, have fun and get off at the bridge to Mondelli and get back on again later.
