From Motril on the N 323 in the direction of Granada. Turn right before the bridge, then immediately left again after the bridge in the direction of Orgiva and 'Las Alpujarras'. Approx. 10 km further on, after a short tunnel, turn left towards Orgiva, through the town center and at the end of the town turn right towards Pampaneira - Capileira. From Capileira, continue on the road leading up to Sierra Nevada above Poqueira. At the exit of Capileira, set the trip odometer to zero. Exactly at km 4, a dirt road leads off to the right at a left-hand bend. Continue on this road for 2.5 km until you reach a bridge over the Barranco Bermejo. We can park the car at the bridge, but it makes sense to continue for a good 100 m and then turn right at an acute angle to the "Area Recreativa Pórtugos", a picnic area with a fountain.

From the picnic area, we head back along the slope towards the bridge. After just a few meters on the main track, we turn off onto a side track to the right (north). We follow this uphill to a small house (10 min.). Pass the house on the left and follow the indistinct tracks towards the canyon and then always uphill on the left bank to the entry point. There are several options here: Either directly above the narrow section or after 45 minutes at the crossing water pipe at about 1880 m (according to the Internet sites) or even further up after 1.5 hours at about 2120 m, see Gomez/Tejero.
