Von Florenz westwärts auf der A 11 oder von La Spezia auf der A 12 in südlicher Richtung, dann von der A 12 bei Viareggio ostwärts abzweigend auf die A 11, erreichen wir Lucca. Von hier fahren wir das Tal des Fiume Serchio in nördlicher Richtung aufwärts und kommen nach 36 km in die Kleinstadt Gallicano am rechten Ufer des Serchio. Hier biegen wir westwärts ab und fahren in Richtung Fornovolasco. Zuerst führt die Straße über dem Turrite Gallicano entlang. Nach etwa 4 km erreicht man eine Zone, wo der Fluss aufgestaut ist. Nachdem wir etwa 1 km am kleinen Stausee entlang gefahren sind, kommen wir zu der Abzweigung, wo die Straße rechts hinauf nach Vergemoli abgeht. Wir fahren jedoch zuerst noch rund 300 m weiter geradeaus, bis die Straße über den Levigliese führt. Direkt vor der Brücke ist rechterhand Platz für das untere Fahrzeug.Mit dem zweiten geht es zurück zur Abzweigung und dann in Serpentinen hinauf nach Vergemoli. Wenige hundert Meter vor Erreichen der Ortschaft stellen wir das zweite Fahrzeug dort ab, wo in einer Haarnadelkurve (nach rechts) linkerhand ein Forststräsßchen abzweigt.

From Florence westwards on the A 11 or from La Spezia southwards on the A 12, then branching off eastwards from the A 12 at Viareggio onto the A 11, we reach Lucca. From here we head north up the Fiume Serchio valley and after 36 km we reach the small town of Gallicano on the right bank of the Serchio. Here we turn west and head towards Fornovolasco. At first, the road runs above the Turrite Gallicano. After about 4 km you reach an area where the river is dammed. After driving along the small reservoir for about 1 km, we come to the junction where the road turns right up to Vergemoli. However, we continue straight on for about 300 m until the road crosses the Levigliese. Just before the bridge, there is space for the lower vehicle on the righthand side; the second vehicle takes us back to the junction and then up the winding road to Vergemoli. A few hundred meters before reaching the village, we park the second vehicle where a small forest road branches off to the left in a hairpin bend (to the right).

Wir folgen dem Forststräßchen in westlicher Richtung. In einem Linksbogen quert es den Levigliese. Hier (Bach noch meist trocken) einsteigen und bachabwärts laufen bis zu einer Wasserableitung (nach Südwesten) sowie den Resten einer Mühle und eines Holzsteges. Hier beginnt der eigentliche Abstieg.Es gibt auch einen Fußweg von Vergemoli in südwestlicher Richtung hinab zu einigen Häusern. Dort verliert er sich jedoch und man muss weglos (und beschwerlich) hinunter zum Bach.

We follow the forest road in a westerly direction. In a left turn it crosses the Levigliese. Enter here (stream still mostly dry) and walk downstream until you reach a water diversion (to the southwest) and the remains of a mill and a wooden footbridge. Here begins the actual descent.There is also a footpath from Vergemoli in a southwesterly direction down to some houses. There, however, it gets lost and you have to descend pathless (and arduous) to the stream.
