Von der an der südlichen Ägäis gelegenen Stadt Fethiye fahren wir etwa 12 km in südlicher Richtung nach Olüdeniz, einer wunderschön an einer Meeresbucht mit Lagune und Sandstrand gelegenen Touristenhochburg. Die Straße führt gegen Ende steil hinab in die Ortschaft. Wo sie beginnt, wieder eben zu verlaufen - etwa 400m vor Erreichen der Küstenpromenade - biegen wir links ab in die Kidiral CD in Richtung Faralya. Die Straße läuft zunächst auf den Hang zu und biegt, sobald sie an dessen Fuß angekommen ist, rechts ab und führt in südlicher Richtung und sukzessive ansteigend über der Küste entlang (Schöner Rückblick auf Olüdeniz). Etwa 3,4 km nach dem Abbiegen auf die Kidiral CD umfahren wir einen direkt an der Küste gelegenen größeren Hotelkomplex. Die Straße steigt nun, teilweise in Serpentinen, steil an und wir erreichen nach insgesamt fast 8 km den Schluchtrand über dem Kelebekler Vadisi. Die Straße verzweigt sich hier, wir halten uns rechts am Schluchtrand und erreichen 1,9 km nach dieser Straßengabelung den locker bebauten Weiler Faralya. Bei dem Schild "Tizar Mah" können wir an geeigneter Stelle unser Auto abstellen. Alternativ kommt die Parkfläche von "George House" für unser Auto in Betracht. Hier sollte man aber vorher mit dem Betreiber des Restaurationsbetriebes Kontakt aufnehmen. Dieser Parkplatz hat den Vorteil, dass er direkt am Ende des schweißtreibenden Rückstiegs aus dem Tal liegt.Wir folgen der beschilderten Abzweigung rechts hinunter zum "George House". In diesem Fall muss man wieder zurücklaufen auf der Straße bis zum Beginn der Abstiegs zum Bach.

From the town of Fethiye on the southern Aegean, we drive about 12 km south to Olüdeniz, a tourist stronghold beautifully situated on a bay with a lagoon and sandy beach. Towards the exit, the road descends steeply into the village. Where it begins to level out again - about 400m before reaching the coastal promenade - we turn left onto Kidiral CD towards Faralya. The road initially walks towards the slope and, as soon as it reaches the foot of the slope, turns right and heads south, gradually ascending along the coast (beautiful view of Olüdeniz). About 3.4 km after turning onto Kidiral CD, we drive around a large hotel complex located directly on the coast. The road now climbs steeply, partly in serpentines, and after a total of almost 8 km we reach the canyon rim above the Kelebekler Vadisi. The road branches off here, we keep to the right along the canyon rim and reach the sparsely built-up hamlet of Faralya 1.9 km after this fork in the road. We can park our car in a suitable place at the signs for "Tizar Mah". Alternatively, the parking area of "George House" can be considered for our car. Der Abstieg zum Bach erfolgt noch vor dem Gül Market die Teerstraße rechts hinunter. Dann muss man sich einen möglichst kommoden Zustieg in das hier betonierte Bachbett suchen. Die erste Möglichkeit ist durch einen Drahtzaun versperrt, den man aber ggf. von links her aufklappen kann, da er hier nur locker im Gebüsch hängt. Die nächste Zustiegsmöglichkeit bietet sich nach der Straßensenke. Vor dem kleinen Häuschen folgen wir dem Pfad, der nach wenigen Metern rechts steil hinunter in's Bachbett führt.

The descent to the stream takes place before the Gül Market down the tarred road on the right. Then you have to look for the most convenient access to the concrete streambed. The first option is blocked by a wire fence, but you can open it from the left if necessary, as it hangs loosely in the bushes here. The next access point is after the road dip. Before the small house, follow the path that leads steeply down to the right into the streambed after a few meters.

Einmal im Betonbett des Baches folgen wir diesem und den anschließenden deutlichen Spuren zunächst auf der rechten, später auf der linken Bachseite. Wir kommen zum endgültigen Einstieg bei einem markanten Baum und einer massiven Eisenverankerung auf einem großen Felsklotz in Bachmitte. Hier beginnt der erste Abseiler (40m), es folgt ein Schrägabseiler (20m - Stand rechts) zu dem Stand über der hohen und breiten Wand (links). Das Abseilen erfolgte hier auch noch anno 2015 (Jahresende) von einer Kombination aus Wurzeln und Ästen eines Baumes. Auch uns war es schon bei unserer ersten Begehung (anno 2010) zu unsicher, eine Verankerung in den brüchigen Tuff zu setzen. Anno 2024 war der Stand in Ordnung. Nun fährt man etwa 55m ab und kommt auf einem plateauartigen Absatz zu stehen. Hier bietet sich nun zur Fortsetzung des Abstiegs eine Alternative an. Wir haben jeweils eine Route am rechten Absatzrand genommen, die vom Wasserdurchsatz allenfalls benetzt ist und der Abseilpunkt rechts etwas unterhalb des Absatzes liegt. Die Abseilstrecke liegt hier auch bei etwa 55m. Alternativ gibt es jedoch von diesem Absatz einen direkten Abstieg direkt am bzw. im Hauptwasserlauf. Ein Haken dürfte vorhanden sein, ein Seilschoner im Zweifel angebracht. Die Abseilhöhe dürfte hier - geschätzt ! - bei etwa 45m liegen. Ist wohl die sportlichere Variante. Der weitere Abstieg erfolgt dann wieder gemeinsam über Eisentritte und an massiven Fixseilen gesichert. Bis hier oben kann so auch ein "Halbschuhtourist" zu den letzten Wasserfällen heraufklettern. Das Ambiente mit den steilen und hohen Wänden und Rinnen ist beeindruckend. Schließlich erreicht man die Talsohle und läuft auf angenehmen Pfaden hinaus zum Strand.

Once in the concrete bed of the stream, we follow it and the subsequent clear tracks, first on the right and later on the left side of the stream. We come to the final entry at a prominent tree and a massive iron anchor on a large boulder in the middle of the stream. The first rappel begins here (40m), followed by a diagonal rappel (20m - belay on the right) to the belay above the high and wide wall (left). The rappel here was also in 2015 (end of the year) from a combination of roots and branches of a tree. Even on our first ascent (in 2010), it was too unsafe for us to place an anchor in the brittle tufa. In 2024, the stand was fine. Now you descend about 55m and come to a plateau-like ledge. There is now an alternative here to continue the descent. We took a route on the right-hand edge of the ledge, which is at best wetted by the water flow and the anchor is slightly below the ledge on the right. The rappelling routes here are also around 55m. Alternatively, there is a direct descent from this ledge directly along or in the main watercourse. An anchor should be available, a rope protector is advisable in case of doubt. The abseil height here should - estimated ! - should be around 45m. This is probably the more athletic option. The further descent then takes place together again over iron steps and secured on massive fixed ropes. Even a "half-shoe tourist" can climb up to the last waterfalls. The ambience with the steep and high walls and chutes is impressive. Finally, you reach the bottom of the valley and walk out to the beach on pleasant paths.

Der Rückweg wieder hinauf zum "George House" auf dem Schluchtrand erfolgt auf der orograf. linken Seite des Tales, beginnend bei einem hölzernen Schwinggatter in einen kleinen Steinwall und ist beschildert. Für Menschen, die trittsicher und schwindelfrei sind, eröffnen sich beim Aufstieg keine Schwierigkeiten. Exponiertere Passagen sind mit Seilen gesichert. Etwas Trinkbares sollte man hier noch zur Verfügung haben. Bis hinauf zum "George House" bieten sich permanent beeindruckende Blicke in das Schluchtende und hinaus auf den Strand und das Meer. Anno 2024 fand sich am Beginn des Abstiegsweges ein Verbotsschild (Reparaturarbeiten), von unten war am Beginn des Aufstiegs Vergleichbares nicht zu sehen. Alternativ bietet sich jedenfalls während der Tourisaison die Möglichkeit einer Abholung am Strand mit Schiff. Dieses bringt den Canyonisten nach Olüdeniz und kostete 400 TL (2024). In diesem Fall wäre ein zweites Fahrzeuf in Olüdeniz sinnvoll.

The way back up to "George House" on the canyon rim is on the orographic left-hand side of the valley, starting at a wooden swing gate in a small stone wall and is signposted. For people who are sure-footed and have a head for heights, there are no difficulties on the ascent. More exposed passages are secured with ropes. You should still have something to drink here. Up to George House, there are constantly impressive views of the canyon exit and out to the beach and the sea. In 2024, there was a prohibition sign at the start of the descent (repair work), but there was nothing similar to be seen from below at the start of the ascent. Alternatively, during the tourist season, there is the option of being picked up from the beach by boat. This takes the canyonist to Olüdeniz and costs 400 TL (2024). In this case, a second vehicle in Olüdeniz would make sense.
