Von Florenz westwärts auf der A 11 oder von La Spezia auf der A 12 in südlicher Richtung, dann von der A 12 bei Viareggio ostwärts abzweigend auf die A 11, erreichen wir Lucca. Von hier fahren wir das Tal des Fiume Serchio in nördlicher Richtung aufwärts und kommen nach 36 km in die Kleinstadt Gallicano am rechten Ufer des Serchio. Hier biegen wir von der Via Roma westwärts ab auf die Via della Pania und fahren in Richtung Fornovolasco. Die Straße kreuzt hier unmittelbar am Beginn der Via della Pania den Fluss Turrite di Gallicano. Hier stellen wir den Kilomterzähler auf Null. Die Straße führt nun über dem Turrite Gallicano entlang. Nach etwa 2,4 km geht links hinauf die Straße nach Verni ab, nach 2,9 km geht rechts in spitzem Winkel die Straße Sp 41 nach Calomini, Brucciano ab. 750 m weiter, also 3,6 km nach der Brücke in Gallicano zweigt links eine kleine Stichstraße ab. Hier parken wir das Auto für den Ausstieg. Auf der Weiterfahrt erreicht man eine Zone, wo der Fluss aufgestaut ist. Nachdem wir etwa 1 km am kleinen Stausee entlang gefahren sind, kommen wir zu der Abzweigung, wo die Straße rechts hinauf nach Vergemoli abgeht. Dorthin in Serpentinen 2,7 km aufwärts. Noch vor Erreichen der Ortschaft Vergemoli stellen wir das obere Auto in einer Rechtskurve im Wald ab.

From Florence westwards on the A 11 or from La Spezia southwards on the A 12, then branching off eastwards from the A 12 at Viareggio onto the A 11, we reach Lucca. From here we head north up the Fiume Serchio valley and after 36 km we reach the small town of Gallicano on the right bank of the Serchio. Here we turn west from Via Roma onto Via della Pania and head towards Fornovolasco. The road crosses the Turrite di Gallicano river right at the start of Via della Pania. Set the odometer to zero here. The road now runs above the Turrite Gallicano. After about 2.4 km, the road to Verni turns off to the left, and after 2.9 km, the Sp 41 road to Calomini, Brucciano turns off to the right at an acute angle. 750 m further on, i.e. 3.6 km after the bridge in Gallicano, a small road branches off to the left. Park the car here for the exit. As we continue, we reach an area where the river is dammed. After driving along the small reservoir for about 1 km, we come to the junction where the road branches off to the right up to Vergemoli. The road winds uphill for 2.7 km. Before reaching the village of Vergemoli, we park the top car in a right-hand bend in the forest.

Wir laufen auf der Straße weiter in Richtung Vergemoli. Nach etwa 50 m biegen wir auf einen Weg rechts ab, der mit roten Markierungspunkten versehen ist. An einer Verzweigung halten wir uns rechts hinunter zum Bachbett. Bei dem Holzsteg ist der Einstieg.

We continue walking on the road in the direction of Vergemoli. After about 50 m we turn right onto a path marked with red markers. At a fork we keep right down to the streambed. At the wooden footbridge is the entry.

Die Grotte kann man übersteigen, wenn der Wasserdurchsatz zu groß ist. Nach Unterquerung der Straßenbrücke erreichen wir den Turrite de Gallicano (Achtung; Stausee oberhalb!), laufen dann noch gut 300 m weiter und steigen wenige Meter vor der alten Bogenbrücke aus Stein links hinaus.

The grotto can be crossed if the water flow is too great. After crossing under the road bridge, we reach the Turrite de Gallicano (watch out; reservoir above!), then walk a good 300 m further and climb out to the left a few meters before the old arched stone bridge.
