Summary:
Left tributary: A lovely, straightforward descent with a narrow and interesting first section, the second part of the descent follows an open riverbed, then more enclosed.
Access:
From the village of Alcover, we’ll head to the village of Montral, where we’ll turn left towards La Mussara. When we reach a junction, we’ll turn right towards La Febró. We’ll carry on until we pass a farmhouse on our left (Mas dels Frares); once past the farmhouse, we’ll take the track that branches off to the left of the road and park there.
Approach (5 min):
Once you have parked the car, head down the track towards Arbolí. In about 10 minutes, you will reach the bed of the right-hand tributary. If you prefer to descend the left-hand tributary first (which we think is the best option), cross the riverbed, head down the path on the right, and then head up the path that branches off to the left until you reach the riverbed.
Tour (1 h):
Left tributary: A lovely, straightforward descent with a narrow and interesting first section, featuring beautiful plays of light. We’ll abseil 5 metres and then 13 metres to reach a drop of around 4 metres, where the ravine opens out and changes completely in appearance. After a short abseil, we’ll reach the confluence with the right tributary. The second part of the descent follows an open riverbed, where, after a short 4-metre abseil, we’ll reach a sort of amphitheatre, followed by abseils of 15 and 13 metres, ending with a drop of about 5 metres (take care with this last one).
Return (45 min):
After the last jump, we’ll take a path that branches off to our right, which will lead us to the pool where the 15-metre abseil down the right-hand tributary takes place. We’ll continue climbing until we reach the path we took at the start to access the ravine. Once at the top, we can descend the right-hand tributary to make the 15-metre abseil.
