Der Saiherbach ist ein kurzer, aber landschaftlich sehr schön gelegener Canyon. Er ist charakterisiert durch sehr viele Abseilstellen und wenig horizontale Teile. Die südseitige Lage macht ihn zu einem Badeerlebnis der besonderen Art mit traumhaftem Ausblick auf den Dachstein. Bei geringer Wasserführung ist eine Begehung eher uninteressant.

Mit dem Auto auf der Westautobahn bei Regau abfahren, bis Bad Ischl fahren, dort nicht ins Zentrum abfahren, sondern weiter durch einen Tunnel Richtung Salzburg. Gleich die erste Abfahrt nach dem Tunnel nehmen wo man nach einigen hundert Metern zu einer Brücke über die Ischl gelangt. Diese überqueren und nach ca. einem Kilometer rechts abzweigen. Am besten ist es am Wasserfall vorbei zufahren und einen Wandererparkplatz zum Jainzenberg zu benützen. (Eventuell auch schon vorher am Straßenrand - wird aber immer mehr zugebaut / abgesperrt) Danach ca 500m retour zum Wasserfall gehen

Leave the Westautobahn at Regau, drive to Bad Ischl, do not exit into the center, but continue through a tunnel towards Salzburg. Take the first exit after the tunnel and after a few hundred meters you will come to a bridge over the Ischl. Cross it and after about one kilometer turn right. It is best to drive past the waterfall and use a parking lot for hikers to Jainzenberg. (Possibly also before at the roadside - but it is increasingly being built up / closed off) Then walk back to the waterfall for approx. 500m

Man folgt nun allen weiteren Schildern bis man zum Wasserfall gelangt. Hier kann man die derzeitige Wasserführung beurteilen. Ca. 50Meter vor dem Fall, zweigt ein kleiner Pfad auf der orographisch rechten Seite ab, der sich dann steil durch den Wald hinaufschlängelt. Die Abzweigung nach rechts über das Felsband retour in Richtung Bach übersieht man leicht (verblasste farbige Punkte am Weg) Wird der Weg ebener, gelangt man wieder zu dem Bach zurück. Hier befindet sich der Einstieg des Canyons. Man kann auch über die Forststraße auf der orogr. linken Bachseite zusteigen: Vom Wandererparkplatz der Asphaltstraße bergauf zu einem Hochbehälter folgen, dann auf der Forststraße über drei Kehren aufsteigen wo links eine verwachsene Forststraße abzweigt. Auf dieser Forststraße weiter bis man etwa 20hm oberhalb vom Saiherbach steht. Hier weglos zum Bach hinunter den man oberhalb einer 15m Stufe erreicht. Man könnte auch versuchen vom Aussichtspunkt an der Forststraße (links unten Bankerl, Forststraße wendet sich nach Norden) direkt zum eigentlichen Klammeingang abzusteigen.

Now follow all the signs until you reach the waterfall. Here you can judge the current water flow. Approx. 50 meters before the fall, a small path branches off on the orographic right-hand side, which then winds steeply up through the forest. It is easy to overlook the turn-off to the right over the rocky ledge back towards the stream (faded colored dots on the path). When the path levels out, you come back to the stream. This is the entry point to the canyon. You can also access the canyon via the forest road on the orographic left side of the stream: From the hikers' parking lot, follow the asphalt road uphill to an elevated reservoir, then ascend on the forest road over three hairpin bends where an overgrown forest road branches off to the left. Continue on this forest road until you are about 20 meters above the Saiherbach stream. Here you descend pathlessly to the stream, which you reach above a 15m step. You could also try descending from the viewpoint on the forest road (bench at the bottom left, forest road turns north) directly to the actual gorge entrance.

Wenn man den Zustieg über die Forststraße wählt kommen noch zwei Abseiler dazu: 15m von Baum orogr. links, dann 6m von Haken mit Kettenglied orogr. links in niedriger Klamm. Beim ersten Bohrhaken hängt gleich ein Fixseil, das verwendet werden kann. Die nächste Stufe kann mit etwas Geschick auch ohne Seil überwunden werden. Man gelangt zu einem Wasserfall, durch den man unweigerlich abseilen muß. Bis auf die kalte Dusche sollte er aber keine Schwierigkeiten bereiten. Bei extremer Wasserführung oder mit Anfängern kann eventuell ein Rappel Guidé gebaut werden (Bohrhaken beim zweiten Becken). Ansonsten können die drei Becken (C6, C3, C4) in einem abgeseilt werden. Es folgt eine etwas verblockte Abseilstelle über 7 Meter. Spätestens jetzt gelangt man in die Sonne und blickt direkt auf den Dachstein (Fluchtmöglichkeit rechts). Es gibt zwei Möglichkeiten, die nächste Stufe abzuseilen. Direkt über den Überhang was etwas spektakulärer ist, oder weiter links was für Anfänger zu empfehlen ist. Mit einem 55m Seil (oder länger) ist es möglich über die zwei Becken hinaus, bis zum letzten Abseilstand abzuseilen. Dieser befindet sich etwas versteckt hinter einem Felsblock auf der linken Seite. Ein Fixseil am Anfang des Blockes erleichtert den Zustieg. Die letzte Abseilstelle bildet den krönenden Abschluss der Schlucht. 35m sind teilweise direkt im Wasserfall abzuseilen, teilweise auch vor Publikum, da unten der Wanderweg vorbeizieht.

If you choose the access via the forest road, there are two more rappels: 15m from tree orographic left, then 6m from anchor with chain link orographic left in low gorge. At the first bolt there is a fixed rope that can be used. With a little skill, the next steps can be climbed without ropes. You come to a waterfall through which you inevitably have to rappel. Apart from the cold shower, however, it should not cause any difficulties. In extreme water conditions or with beginners, a Rappel Guidé can possibly be built (bolts at the second pool). Otherwise, the three pools (C6, C3, C4) can be rappelled in one. This is followed by a somewhat blocked abseil over 7 meters. At this point at the latest, you reach the sun and have a direct view of the Dachstein (escape option on the right). There are two ways to rappel the next step. Directly over the overhang, which is somewhat more spectacular, or further to the left, which is recommended for beginners. With a 55m rope (or longer) it is possible to rappel beyond the two pools to the last rappel. This is somewhat hidden behind a boulder on the left-hand side. A fixed rope at the beginning of the block makes access easier. The last abseil point is the crowning glory of the canyon. The 35m rappel is partly directly in the waterfall, partly in front of an audience, as the hiking trail passes below.

Vom Wasserfall kehrt man auf dem schon bekannten Weg zum Parkplatz zurück.
