Summary:
An open and vertical alpine gorge of limited interest, except for the magnificent views of Monte Rosa. The stream takes its name from a nearby alpine pasture, as the maps do not indicate any specific name for it.
Access:
Leave the A26 motorway at Piedimulera and continue to Macugnaga via the Anzasca Valley. In Macugnaga, follow the main road to its end, reaching the parking area at the base station of the Monte Rosa chairlifts (Google SW).
Approach (1 h 15):
From the chairlift station, follow the obvious ski run uphill. After about 15 minutes, before a bridge, turn right onto a secondary track (yellow signs high on the right), following directions for Bivacco Hinderbalmo. Shortly afterwards, you will reach the base of the final waterfall, where the water flow can be assessed. Continue along the path, which now climbs steeply but is well marked. At a junction, keep right (yellow signs) and reach the stream. Ignore the smaller side channels; the correct stream is quite obvious after a short descent.
Tour (3 h):
Escape Routes: Before the last two rappels, it is possible to exit on river right. After traversing the slope for about one hundred metres, you will reach the ascent trail.
Return (15 min):
The stream ends close to the approach trail.
