Von Tolmezzo ausgehend auf die SS52 fahren; Beim großen ovalen Kreisverkehr bei Tolmezzo diesen in Richtung Ampezzo (In Richtung Westen – NICHT in Richtung Arta Terme) verlassen. Von der Ausfahrt vom Kreisverkehr für 16 km auf der SS52 bleiben. Direkt nach der Brücke über den Torrente Lumiei links abbiegen in Richtung „Tramonti“ – auf die SR552. Auf dieser Straße bleibt man nun für 7km – fährt zuerst über Serpentinen bergauf, danach wieder bergab - ehe man auf ein nicht zu übersehende Staumauer im Tagliamento und die Brücke über den Taglimento trifft. Man überquert den Tagliamento und fährt noch or. rechts für ca 600m, bis eine Forststraße rechts abzweigt. Auf der Forststraße bleibt man noch für ca 2,5km – teilw. verlässt man das Flussbett des Tagliamento in Richtung hang aufwärts – bis man dann unübersehbar auf einem großen Parkplatz ankommt. Direkt nach dem Parkplatz geht ein Wanderweg rechts den Berg weiter hoch oder man könnte links in das Bachbett des Tagliemento mit einem Geländewagen einfahren. Hier parken.

From Tolmezzo take the SS52; at the large oval traffic circle at Tolmezzo, leave the traffic circle in the direction of Ampezzo (west - NOT in the direction of Arta Terme). From the exit of the traffic circle stay on the SS52 for 16 km. Immediately after the bridge over the Torrente Lumiei turn left towards "Tramonti" - on the SR552. Stay on this road for 7km - going uphill first, then downhill again - before you reach a dam in the Tagliamento that you can't miss and the bridge over the Taglimento. Cross the Tagliamento and go right for about 600m until a forest road branches off to the right. Stay on the forest road for about 2.5km - partly leaving the Tagliamento riverbed in the direction of the slope - until you reach a large parking lot. Immediately after the parking lot, a hiking trail continues up the hill to the right or you could enter the streambed of the Tagliemento on the left with an off-road vehicle. Park here.

Vom Parkplatz aus folgt man dem Flussbett des Tagliamento flussaufwärts für ca. 15 min. Auf der or. rechten Seite erscheint eine klar erkennbare bewaldete Insel, bei der der Rio Negro in den Tagliamento fließt. Am Ende dieser Insel, direkt bei der Mündung des Rio Negro, beginnt klar erkennbar der Weg 328 (rot-weiße Markierungen). Man folgt dem Weg hangaufwärts. Bei unserer Begehung (2019) kommt man nach ca 5 min bei einem Jägerhäuschen bzw. Ruinen an, wo viele Bäume den Weg versperren durch Windbruch. Hier hält man sich am besten rechts bzw. geht direkt bei dem Jägerhäuschen gerade aus hangaufwärts. Dann erscheinen gleich wieder die Markierungen des Weg 328, der weitere 40 min hangaufwärts führt bis man direkt auf den Rio Negro trifft. Der Einstieg ist direkt bei der Mündung des Rio Naiarda in den Rio Negro.

From the parking lot, follow the Tagliamento riverbed upstream for about 15 min. On the or. right side appears a clearly recognizable wooded island where the Rio Negro flows into the Tagliamento. At the exit of this island, right at the mouth of the Rio Negro, path 328 (red and white markings) begins. One follows the path uphill. During our walk (2019) you arrive after about 5 min at a hunter's hut or ruins, where many trees block the way due to wind breakage. Here it is best to keep to the right or go straight uphill directly at the hunter's hut. Then the markings of the path 328 appear again, which leads another 40 min uphill until you meet the Rio Negro. The entry is directly at the confluence of the Rio Naiarda with the Rio Negro.

Der Rio Negro ist ein schöner durchaus aquatischer Canyon mit einigen kleineren Abseilern, Sprüngen und Schwimmpassagen. Leider ist er immer wieder etwas diskontinuierlich mit einigen Geh und Abkletterpassagen. Die Stände sind nur Einzelhaken oder Abseiler von Bäumen, die teilweise schon etwas älter sind. D.h. das Notsetzzeug und Seilreste bzw. Bandschlingen sollten mitgenommen werden, da der Canyon nicht oft begangen wird. Vor allem die erste Hälfte ist ein eher durchschnittlicher Wander- und Schwimmcanyon mit schönen Passagen und glasklaren Gumpen sowie schönen geologischen Schichtformationen mit ein paar kleineren Abseilern. Hier hätte man auch immer wieder Möglichkeiten um in Notfällen aus der Schlucht zu kommen. Richtig interessant wird der Rio Negro jedoch ab der Engklamm, die mit einem 18m-Abseiler von einem Baum or. rechts beginnt. Sollte man schon in der ersten Hälfte Probleme mit dem Wasserdruck haben oder es Gruppenmitgliedern jetzt schon kühl sein, sollte der Canyon auf alle Fälle bei einer geeigneten Stelle vor der Engklamm verlassen werden! Der 18m-Abseiler führ direkt in einen turbulenten Gumpen mit Weißwasser und Rücklauf in der Engklamm, wo man versuchen sollte nicht in den Rücklauf zu kommen (Korrektes Ablängen des Seils!). Direkt nach dem Gumpen verengt sich die Schlucht auf ca einen Meter und man gelangt schwimmend in einen großen höhlenartigen Gumpen. In dieser Höhle mündet scheinbar eine große unterirdische Quelle, die die Wassermenge mindestens verdoppelt und die Temperatur des Wassers extrem stark sinken lässt. Handschuhe und gutes Neopren sind hier wichtig. Die Engklamm ist wirklich schön, da sich die Charakteristik des Canyons innerhalb kürzerster Zeit von einer offenen Schlucht in eine tief eingeschnittene, finstere und wasserreiche Schlucht ändert. Nach der Engklamm kommen noch einige längere Schwimm und Abkletterpassagen, die auf Grund der Temperatur des Rio Negro für ungeübte Canyonauten durchaus anstrengend sein können. Das flache Bachbett des Rio Negro mündet nach ca 2,5h in den Tagliamento und man befindet sich wieder am Beginn des Wanderwegs 328.

The Rio Negro is a beautiful quite aquatic canyon with some smaller rappels, jumps and swimming passages. Unfortunately, it is always somewhat discontinuous with some walking and downclimb passages. The belays are only single hooks or rappels from trees, some of which are a bit older. That is, the emergency kit and rope remnants or slings should be taken with you, because the canyon is not often walked. Especially the first half is a rather average hiking and swim canyon with nice passages and crystal clear pools as well as nice geological layer formations with a few smaller rappels. Here you would also always have options to get out of the canyon in case of emergencies. However, the Rio Negro becomes really interesting from the gorge, which begins with an 18m rappel from a tree or. right. If you already have problems with the water pressure in the first half or it is group members now already cool, the canyon should be left in any case at a suitable place before the gorge! The 18m rappel leads directly into a turbulent pool with white water and backflow in the gorge, where you should try not to get into the backflow (correct cutting of the ropes!). Immediately after the pool, the canyon narrows to about one meter and you swim into a large cave-like pool. A large underground spring apparently flows into this cave, at least doubling the amount of water and causing the temperature of the water to drop extremely. Gloves and good neoprene are important here. The gorge is really beautiful, as the characteristic of the canyon changes from an open gorge to a deeply cut, sinister and watery canyon in a very short time. After the gorge there are some longer swim and downclimb sections, which can be quite strenuous for inexperienced canyoneers due to the temperature of the Rio Negro. The shallow streambed of the Rio Negro flows into the Tagliamento after about 2.5 hours and you are back at the beginning of trail 328.
