Von Malaga geht es auf der zu Beginn 4-spurig ausgebauten A 357 - vorbei an Cartama - Richtung Ardales. Ca. 30 km ab Malaga biegen wir rechts ab auf die A 7077 und fahren in nördlicher Richtung nach Alora(ca. 7 km ab Abzweigung. Wir fahren auf der neuen Zufahrtsstraße direkt hinauf nach Alora, durchqueren die Ortschaft und fahren weiter nordwärts nach El Chorro. Kurz vor Erreichen der Ortschaft El Chorro nehmen wir nicht die rechts abbiegende Straße an der Staustufe über den Guadalhorce, sondern fahren noch einige hundert Meter weiter bis zu dem links der Straße gelegenen Restaurant. Auf der Parkfläche rechts ein Auto abstellen.Mit dem zweiten Fahrzeug kurvenreich weiter, bis man nach etwa 4km auf die von Ardales kommende MA 444 trifft. Hier rechts ab auf die MA 9006 und in nordöstlicher Richtung 2 km am Stausee entlang.Wir durchfahren einen kurzen Tunnel und stellen etwa 100m danach das zweite Auto ab (vgl.: http://www.wikiloc.com/wikiloc/view.do?id=6983141 ). Hier führt ein Fußgängertunnel durch den Berg. Nach der Fertigstellung und Wiederinbetriebnahme des "Caminito del Rey" würde sich der Zustieg über denselben empfehlen. Damit würde sich die Autoumsetzung erübrigen und die Tour eine zusätzliche Bereicherung erfahren. Allerdings dürfte die Möglichkeit dadurch entfallen, dass die Begehung des Caminito lediglich in der Richtung von oben nach unten vorgegeben ist (Preis 2016: 10 Euro, verfügbares Kontingent langfristig ausgebucht).

From Malaga, take the initially 4-lane A 357 - past Cartama - in the direction of Ardales. Approx. 30 km from Malaga, we turn right onto the A 7077 and head north towards Alora (approx. 7 km from the junction). We take the new access road directly up to Alora, cross the village and continue northwards to El Chorro. Shortly before reaching the village of El Chorro, we do not take the road turning right at the barrage over the Guadalhorce, but continue for a few hundred meters to the restaurant on the left of the road. Park one car in the parking lot on the right and continue with the second car along the winding road until you reach the MA 444 coming from Ardales after about 4 km. Turn right here onto the MA 9006 and continue in a north-easterly direction for 2 km along the reservoir, drive through a short tunnel and park the second car about 100 m further on (see: http://www.wikiloc.com/wikiloc/view.do?id=6983141 ). Here a pedestrian tunnel leads through the mountain. Once the "Caminito del Rey" has been completed and reopened, access via this tunnel would be recommended. This would make the shuttle superfluous and enrich the tour. However, this option is likely to be lost due to the fact that the Caminito is only accessible in the direction from top to bottom (price 2016: 10 euros, available contingent fully booked for the long term).

Wir gehen durch den Tunnel - Stirnlampe sinnvoll - kommen auf die von der 'Bar Mirador' herabziehende Piste unf folgen dieser abwärts bis zum alten Kraftwerk Embalse de Gaitanejo. An diesem links vorbei kommen wir flussabwärts zum nördlichen Ende der Schlucht. Einstieg unterhalb des kleinen Wehres. Hier dürfte es mit dem Durchgang Probleme geben wegen der Abzäunungen des Camenito del Rey.

We walk through the tunnel - head torch useful - and come to the track descending from the 'Bar Mirador' and follow this downhill to the old Embalse de Gaitanejo power station. Passing this on the left, we come downstream to the northern exit of the canyon. Entry below the small dam. There may be problems with the passage here due to the fencing of the Camenito del Rey.

Der Caminito del Rey, ein 1920 exponiert an die senkrechten Schluchtwände in bis zu 120 m Höhe über dem Schluchtgrund 'geklebter' Steig ist jetzt wieder begehbar (2015). Er wurde früher als Zustieg bzw. Rückweg zu den Stauanlagen benutzt (so noch Sanchez a.a.O.).Der Zustieg durch die relativ breit ausgelegten Eisenbahntunnels (vgl. Internetfundstelle) ist seit 2003 verboten. Das Verbot wird - wie wir im Nov. 2006 um die Mittagszeit erfahren mussten - auch polizeilich überwacht (es drohen 3000 Euro Strafe und vorübergehende Festnahme). Falls man doch von der Ortschaft El Chorro durch die Tunnels anmarschieren will, so erfolgt der Zustieg durch ein kleines Tunnel-'Fenster' im (4.) langen Tunnel, durch das man in das Flussbett direkt oberhalb des Schluchteingangs gelangt (Zustiegszeit hier 1 Std). Warnung: oberhalb Stausee! Begehung Ende Okt. 2006 sowie Anfang Nov. 2009

The Caminito del Rey, a path 'glued' to the vertical gorge walls at a height of up to 120 m above the gorge floor in 1920, is now accessible again (2015). It used to be used as an access or return route to the dams (Sanchez op. cit.), but access through the relatively wide railroad tunnels (see internet site) has been prohibited since 2003. The ban is also monitored by the police - as we found out in Nov. 2006 at lunchtime (you could be fined 3000 euros and temporarily arrested). If you do want to walk through the tunnels from the village of El Chorro, access is through a small tunnel 'window' in the (4th) long tunnel, through which you can reach the river bed directly above the entrance to the gorge (access time here 1 hour). Warning: above the reservoir! Exit at the end of Oct. 2006 and beginning of Nov. 2009

Nach dem abschließenden Abseiler (je nach Wasserstand im Stausee unterhalb zwischen 4 und 11 Meter. Sprung möglich ,von oben oder von der Mitte) und der folgenden Engstelle steigen wir rechts hinaus zum zuerst abgestellten Fahrzeug.
