Summary:
During the descent, there are ledges that can be jumped over or climbed down, some abseils.
Access:
In Madrigal de la Vera, on the EX-203, take Calle de los Naranjos towards Plaza Machaderos; from there, take Calle General Franco, which will lead you to Calle las Rozas. Follow this street to the end; it will take you out of the village onto a tarmac track. Continue along this track until the tarmac ends, at which point you should take the track on the left. Carry on along this track, following the signs for El Recuencano; if you follow them, you’ll reach the car park and, a little further on, the bathing area of the same name.
Approach (1 h):
A GPS is essential. The approach involves climbing off-track through thick vegetation: brambles, ferns and low-lying trees. The route to the lower section is easy to follow. To complete the full descent, you’ll have to find your own way across country. It’s well worth it From the car park, take the ascending track which will lead you to Cassas Alcornocal. You’ll come to a gate (do not go through it); take the path on the right-hand side which climbs through the vegetation. This path will take you across the Molinillo stream. Continue along the path until you reach the stream bed.
Tour (3 h):
During the descent, there are ledges that can be jumped over or climbed down. The 15-metre abseil can be bypassed by jumping from a ledge on the right, where there are anchors from which you can abseil when the water level is high. The gorge ends at the Recuencano swimming area.
Return (10 min):
If you take the path along the left-hand bank (the one used by bathers), it will take you straight to the car park.
