Der Wasserstand kann vom unteren Parkplatz nicht geprüft werden, weil unten der Bach komplett unterirdisch verläuft und beim Staudamm in der Schlucht ein Großteil des Wassers abgezweigt wird. Die Schlucht ist aber bis auf die ersten 3 Abseiler relativ offen, sodass wenn diese Wasser-technisch gehen der Rest kein Problem sein sollte. Außerdem hat es den Anschein als würde man relativ oft or. li. relativ einfach aus der Schlucht rauskommen.

However, the canyon is relatively open except for the first 3 rappels, so if those go water-wise the rest should not be a problem. Von Tolmezzo fährt man ca 15 min (16 km) auf der SS52 in Richtung Ampezzo. Die SS52 führt über eine rotbraun angestrichene Bogenbrücke und ca 200m nach der Brücke (5km vor Ampezzo) biegt man rechts ab in Richtung „Preone“ bzw. Socchieve. Nach einem km kommt man in den Ort Socchieve. Hier biegt man, direkt im Ort wenn die Straße eine Biegung nach links macht rechts ab. Rechter Hand sieht man am Hügel die Kirche „Chiesa di San Martino“. Man folgt der kleinen Straße aus Socchieve raus, rechts haltend (nicht abbiegen), überquert die Furt über den Torrente Lumie ehe man nach einem km beim Tagliamento ankommt. Hier gibt es jetzt 2 Möglichkeiten den Tagliamento zu überqueren. Wenn es das Wasser zulässt und man ein Auto mit genug Bodenfreiheit hat, kann man direkt durch den Tagliamento durchfahren, oder man klappt die Seitenspielgel ein und fährt über die sehr schmale Brücke über den Taglamento. Wenn man den Tagliamento überquert hat biegt man rechts ab und folgt der Straße ca 750m bis man beim Rio della Stua ankommt. Hier befindet sich der untere Parkplatz (Koordinaten: N 46.384300, E 012.835300). Um zum oberen Parkplatz zu kommen überquert man den Rio della Stua und fährt die Straße den Berg hinauf (Erste Abzweigung rechts halten, 2. Abzweigung links halten). Nach ca 10 min über eine Asphaltstraße mit teilw. großen Schlaglöchern kommt beim oberen Parkplatz auf 680Hm an. (Koordinaten: N 46.376655, E 012.825140)

From Tolmezzo you drive about 15 min (16 km) on the SS52 in the direction of Ampezzo. The SS52 crosses an arched bridge painted red-brown and about 200m after the bridge (5km before Ampezzo) you turn right in the direction of "Preone" or Socchieve. After one km you reach the village of Socchieve. Here, just inside the village, when the road bends to the left, turn right. On the right, on the hill, you will see the church "Chiesa di San Martino". Follow the small road out of Socchieve, keeping to the right (do not turn off), cross the ford over the Torrente Lumie before arriving at the Tagliamento after one km. Here there are now 2 possibilities to cross the Tagliamento. If the water allows it and you have a car with enough ground clearance, you can drive directly through the Tagliamento, or you fold in the side sails and drive over the very narrow bridge over the Tagliamento. Once you have crossed the Tagliamento, turn right and follow the road for about 750m until you reach Rio della Stua. Here is the lower parking lot (coordinates: N 46.384300, E 012.835300). To get to the upper parking lot, cross the Rio della Stua and take the road up the hill (keep right at the first fork, keep left at the second fork). After about 10 minutes on an asphalt road with partly big potholes you arrive at the upper parking lot at 680Hm. (Coordinates: N 46.376655, E 012.825140)

Vom Parkplatz folgt man den klar erkennbaren Forstweg mit wenig Steigung bergauf. Nach 5-10 min endet der Forstweg. Hier geht man ca 5 Hm direkt Bergauf bis man auf einen gut erkennbaren Weg trifft. Der Weg mit rot-weiß-blauen Markierungen versehene Weg führt direkt zum Rio della Stua.

From the parking lot you follow the clearly recognizable forest road with little slope uphill. After 5-10 min the forest road ends. Here you go about 5 m directly uphill until you meet a clearly recognizable path. The path with red-white-blue markings leads directly to the Rio della Stua.

Beim Einstieg sieht man gleich auf der linken Seite eine alte verfallene Wehranlage. Gleich nach dem Zufluss eines kleinen Baches or. rechts beginnt die Schlucht 3 schönen aufeinander folgenden Abseilern. Der 3. Abseiler ist bei hohem Wasserstand etwas schwer zu erreichen, deswegen findet man or. recht. Etwas versteckt einen Ring zum Aufbau eines Seilgeländers. Der kurze Abseiler führt direkt unter einem Klemmblock vorbei in einen tiefen Gumpen. Nach einer 240m-Gehstrecke folgt der nächste 17m-Abseiler vom einem Kettenstand und danach eine weitere 60m-Wegstrecke. Bei Problemen könnte man hier höchstwahrscheinlich or. li. aus der Schlucht rauskommen. Danach folgt eine ca 2m-Stufe, die am besten or. li. vom Baum abgeseilt werden sollte (nicht springen auch wenn verlockend). Eine kleine Rutsche folgt, die in einen tiefen höhlen-artigen Gumpen führt. Gleich danach seilt man 17m von einem Kettenstand in einen seichten Gumpen (Achtung scharfe Kante). Direkt danach mündet or. re. ein kleiner Bach und es folgt ein schöner 4m-Sprung. Es folgt eine ca 250 Geh- und Abkletterpassage. In dieser Passage befinden sich im Blockchaos teilweise Klemmblöcke die ganz nett sind wenn man in diese „Mini-Höhlen“ rein geht. Die Passage kann aber auch im Wald umgangen werden. Auch hier sollte man im Notfall höchstwahrscheinlich or. li. aus dem Canyon rauskommen. Am Ende dieser Gehstrecke kommt zu einem Passage, wo man zuerst eine kleine Rutsche vermutet und danach einen tieferen Gumpen. Diese vermeintliche Rutsche nicht nehmen sondern or. re. aus dem Bach raus, den 1. Gumpen umgehen und dann kann man vom Wald aus in den 2. sehr schönen Gumpen springen (7m direkt vom Baum oder 3m etwas weiter unten). Danach folgt ein 20m-Wasserfall bevor man zu einem Abbruch kommt (ca 10m) wo man vergeblich einen Stand sucht. Diese Stelle muss or. re. umgangen werden. Es folgt etwas Blockkletterei ehe or. li. ein weiterer Zulauf in den Rio della Stua mündet. Nach einer weiteren eher längeren Geh- und Abkletterpassage mit einem 4m-Sprung, einem Zulauf von or.li. und einer kleinen Rutsche in einen schönen Gumpen ist man bei einem Staudamm, der zur Stromproduktion verwendet wird und bei dem praktisch das ganze abgeleitet wird. Glücklicherweise kommt nach einer weiteren Geh- und Abkletterpassage in einem eher trockenen Bachbett von or. re. ein weiter Zulauf der wieder gut Wasser in den Rio della Stua bringt. Gleich danach steht man beim letzten und höchsten Abseiler (28m).

At the entry you can see immediately on the left an old dilapidated weir. Immediately after the inflow of a small stream or. right begins the canyon 3 beautiful successive rappel. The 3rd rappel is somewhat difficult to reach when the water level is high, so you will find or. right. Somewhat hidden a ring to set up a rope traverse. The short rappel leads directly under a clamping block past into a deep pool. After a 240m walking passages follows the next 17m rappel from a chain anchor and then another 60m walk. A small slide follows, which leads into a deep cave-like pool. Immediately after, you rope 17m from a chain anchor into a shallow pool (watch out for sharp edges). Directly after this, a small stream flows or. right and a beautiful 4m jump follows. A 250m walk and downclimb follows. In this passage are in the block chaos partly clamping blocks which are quite nice if you go into these "mini caves" purely. The passage can also be bypassed in the forest. Here, too, in case of emergency, one should most likely get out of the canyon or. left. At the exit of this walking passages you come to a passage where you first suspect a small slide and then a deeper pool. Do not take this supposed slide but or. right. out of the stream, bypass the 1st pool and then you can jump from the forest into the 2nd very nice pool (7m directly from the tree or 3m a little further down). After that follows a 20m waterfall before you come to a drop off (about 10m) where you search in vain for a stall. This place must be bypassed or. right. A bit of boulder climbing follows before another inlet on the or. left flows into the Rio della Stua. After another rather long walk and downclimb with a 4m jump, a tributary from or. left and a small slide into a beautiful pool, one is at a dam that is used for electricity production and where practically the whole is diverted. Fortunately, after another walk and downclimb in a rather dry streambed from or. right, there is another inlet that again brings good water into the Rio della Stua. Immediately after that you are at the last and highest rappel (28m).

Nach dem letzten Abseiler folgt man für ca 15min dem Bach, ehe man beim unteren Parkplatz rauskommt.

After the last rappel, follow the stream for about 15min before coming out at the lower parking lot.
