Bignugno is a fairly open canyon, under significant tree cover, with a low water flow, making its descent possible even after a rainy period. Its easy route makes it a good option for beginners, and numerous escape points allow the route to be broken up.

From Domodossola, head to Gravellona Toce, then before Fondotoce take the Val Grande road. About 3 km after Rovegro, the road crosses the canyon just before the houses of Bignugno. Park without blocking passing cars, as space is limited.

Take the trail that starts among the houses near the road; after about 20 minutes you reach another set of houses. Pass between the buildings and head up a good path on the left, which crosses the start of the canyon a bit higher up.

Right at the start, two nice toboggans can be partially slid down (check water depth and ensure there are no submerged branches). Beautiful waterfalls interspersed with pools in a vertical section lead into the forest. The descent is pleasant and the obstacles flow well together. The approach to the C30, which is more delicate, requires a handrail to reach the natural anchor on river left. The gorge widens where it meets a tributary. Six abseils lead to the bridge at the downstream parking area; it is possible to exit on river left, but that would be a shame. The lower section, without major difficulty, is quite enjoyable. About fifteen abseils and more aquatic, narrower passages lead to the beautiful San Bernardino river, marking the end of the route.

Just before the river, climb up a rocky ridge on the right used by fishermen (belaying is recommended). Follow the faint tracks that go directly up to the road.
