March - August
Summary:
A lovely descent down an open, densely vegetated riverbed.
Access:
A combination of transport is required. We’ll take the C-17 to Ripoll, where we’ll join the C-26 and then the N-260 towards Sant Joan de les Abadesses; just over a kilometre past the village, we’ll take the C-38 to Camprodon. Once in Camprodon, the first car will head towards Llanars, following the signs at the entrance to Camprodon. Once in Llanars, we’ll take Font d’en Rafel Street and follow it until it becomes a tarmac country lane with the Feitús stream on our left. After approximately 2 km, we’ll cross a bridge, leaving the stream on our right. We’ll continue along the track for about 1.5 km until we reach a very sharp left-hand bend uphill; this is where we’ll leave the first car. With the second car, we’ll return to Camprodon, where we’ll take the C-38 towards Molló. Just past the 13 km mark, we’ll take an ascending track to the left, right next to a sign marked ‘Beget’. From here on, it all depends on whether we have a 4×4 or not. If we don’t have a 4×4, we’ll have to leave the car when we reach a cluster of houses on the left-hand side; here the track splits into three, and we’ll take the middle one, which goes uphill. You can try driving as far up as you can.
Approach (1 h):
From the second car, whether on foot or in a 4×4, we’ll drive up the track for about 4 km until we reach Coll Sobiràs. Once there, we’ll follow the track until a path branches off to the left, heading towards the left-hand side of the mountain and descending until we reach the stream bed. Once at the stream bed, we’ll follow it for a while until we reach the first abseil point.
Tour (3 h 30):
A lovely descent down an open, densely vegetated riverbed. It consists of 10 abseils, the longest of which is 22 metres, although it can be split as it would actually be more accurate to say there are two abseils; however, we did them in one go as we had enough rope. Although the second abseil is 15 metres long, as it isn’t currently set up, we’ll have to abseil from a tree situated about 10 metres from the top of the abseil, so we’ll need two 30-metre ropes; the plan is to set it up at a later date. Take care with the numerous slippery slopes you’ll encounter along the route; when the water flow is high, they can be problematic – it’s better to abseil down from the trees. The pools don’t provide cover anywhere, except on the final abseil, but you can’t jump across as it only covers a small section of the pool. With no fixed equipment in place, we abseiled in tandem from the trees.
Return (10 min):
After the final abseil, we’ll walk for about 50 metres; on our right we’ll see a path that leads to a meadow. We’ll follow this until we reach the Feitús stream, cross it, and climb up a path that will take us back to the car.
