Von Admont aus über die B117 über den Buchauer Sattel. Beim Griesbauer nach rechts auf eine Sandstraße abzweigen der man noch ein Stück zu einer kleinen Parkmöglichkeit vor Beginn der Forststraße folgt.

From Admont, take the B117 over the Buchauer Sattel. At Griesbauer, turn right onto a sand road and follow it for a short distance to a small parking area just before the forest road begins.

Über die Brücke und dem Weg 664 zum Sparerriegel/Kleinen Buchstein folgen. Zunächst etwa 15min auf der Forststraße in den Talgrund wandern, dann nach links auf eine weitere Forststraße und bald über einen schönen Wanderweg dem Waldkamm hinauf. Kurz wieder auf der Forststraße bevor man wieder nach rechts auf einen Steig abzweigt. Auf ca. 920m Höhe nach rechts in den Bergwald abzweigen (Wegmarkierung rechts, 10m danach bemooster Felsblock mit kleinen Steinmann, der Weg wird flacher) und weglos horizontal in Richtung Griesbach queren. Der Bergwald ist licht und problemlos zu begehen. Nach 10min erreicht man eine Lichtung unterhalb mehrerer großer Felsblöcke, gerade queren und auf der anderen Seite kurz aufstiegen zu einer Salzlecke. Unterhalb der Salzlecke auf deutlichen Wildsteig in die Schlucht reinqueren die man unterm Karende erreicht.

Cross the bridge and follow Trail 664 toward Sparerriegel/Kleiner Buchstein. First, hike for about 15 minutes along the forest road into the valley floor, then turn left onto another forest road and soon follow a beautiful hiking trail up the forest ridge. You’ll briefly return to the forest road before turning right again onto a path. At an elevation of about 920 m, turn right into the mountain forest (trail marker on the right; 10 m further on, a moss-covered boulder with a small cairn; the trail levels out) and cross horizontally toward Griesbach off the trail. The mountain forest is sparse and easy to walk through. After 10 minutes, you’ll reach a clearing below several large boulders; cross straight ahead and, on the other side, perform a brief ascent to a salt lick. Below the salt lick, follow a distinct game trail into the canyon, which you’ll reach at the base of the Karende.

Im breiten Kiesbett absteigen bis man nach rechts zur Zustiegsforststraße aufsteigen kann. Über die Forststraße zurück zum Parkplatz.

Descend in the wide gravel bed until you can ascend to the right to the access forest road. Take the forest road back to the parking lot.
