Von einem der Parkplätze zu Beginn des Hinterautals am östlichen Ortsrand von Scharnitz mit dem Fahrrad etwa 1 Stunde bis fast in den Talschluss. Etwa 500m vor Erreichen der Kastenalm öffnet sich linkerhand das breite Kiesbett des Birkkarbaches. Der Zusitieg beginnt am östlichen Rand des Kiesbettes. Alternativ kann auch mit dem Karwendeltaxi (Taxi Mair) bis zur Abzweigung Fußweg zum Karwendelhaus gefahren werden, wenn man kein Bike hat oder nicht treten will.
From one of the parking lots at the beginning of the Hinterautal valley on the eastern edge of Scharnitz, cycle for about 1 hour almost to the end of the valley. About 500m before reaching the Kastenalm, the wide gravel bed of the Birkkarbach opens up on the left. The ascent begins at the eastern edge of the gravel bed. Alternatively, you can take the Karwendel cab (Taxi Mair) to the junction with the footpath to the Karwendelhaus if you don't have a bike or don't want to pedal.

Am Ostrand des breiten Kiesbettes entlang, bis rechts hinauf der Weg aus dem Schotterbett führt. Diesem folgen, bis er das Bachbett des Birkkarbaches quert. Einige Meter unterhalb beginnt der Abstieg.
Follow the eastern edge of the wide gravel bed until the path on the right leads out of the gravel bed. Follow this until it crosses the streambed of the Birkkarbach stream. The descent begins a few meters below.

siehe Fotos u. Video Hinweis: Anders als im "Tiroler Canyoningführer" von Amor/Rimel angegeben, benötigten wir für den vorletzten Abseiler (bei Riml 16m) 2x30m Seil, die dann knapp reichten. Ein Zwischenstand ist hier weder auf der topo-Zeichnung im Buch noch in natura ersichtlich. Möglich, dass ich mich insoweit irre. Den letzten Abseiler hinunter in das Schotterbett des Baches haben wir noch eingebohrt.
see photos and video Note: Contrary to what is stated in the "Tyrolean Canyoning Guide" by Amor/Rimel, we needed 2x30m of rope for the penultimate rappel (at Riml 16m), which was barely enough. There is no indication of an intermediate position either on the topographic view in the book or in real life. It is possible that I am wrong in this respect. We drilled the last rappel down into the gravel bed of the stream.

Nach dem letzten Abseiler in das Schotterbett links steil hinauf zum Anmarschweg und diesen hinunter zur Straße. Alternativ weiterer Abstieg im meist offenen Schotterbett des Baches. Nachdem sich die Klamm öffnet, links haltend zur Straße.
After the last rappel into the gravel bed, turn left steeply up to the approach path and follow it down to the road. Alternatively, continue down the mostly open gravel bed of the stream. After the gorge opens up, keep left to the road.

Wurde kombiniert mit Moserkarbach. Der Birkkarbach hat etwas interessantere Abseiler als der Moserkarbach. Zustieg sehr steil im oberen Teil. Taxi darf wegen Naturschutz nur bis 18:00 fahren, Handy-Empfang (A1 Netz) erst wieder im unteren Teil des Abstieges (wenn Wald beginnt). Viele alte Haken der Marke Eigenbau mit Schäkel, 4 davon wurden neu gebohrt und auf Edelstahl ausgetauscht bzw. ergänzt.
Was combined with Moserkarbach. The Birkkarbach has somewhat more interesting rappels than the Moserkarbach. Approach very steep in the upper part. Cab may only drive until 18:00 because of nature conservation, cell phone reception (A1 network) only again in the lower part of the descent (when forest begins). Many old hooks of the brand self-made with shackles, 4 of them were newly drilled and replaced on stainless steel or supplemented.
