Access: ➜
One of the routes down to the lagoon—the highest at 70 m. On the valley side, you must leave your vehicle at the Bendola exit in Saorge. Uphill, you must drive toward the Llugo valley far above the village, passing through the Gereon valley along the way. It’s easier to drive toward Neuceira, but then continue on the trail that follows the GR 52 A to the exit...
Approach (2 h 30): ➜
Take the long-distance hiking trail to the marker at the mountain pass (1,540 m). After that, there is no longer a marked trail, but you must follow the mountainside on the left until you reach the edge of the forest, which leads to the first ridge. There you will find a more or less visible trail that slopes gently downward. Continue along the mountainside without stopping and keep going as far as possible to reach a second ridge. After about 2 hours of hiking, you’ll be at an elevation of about 1,250 m. The Graon valleys lie before you! Then stay at the same elevation and head toward the first dry valley to reach the starting point of the first part where the water flows in.
Tour (8 h 30): ➜
Alternating descents of varying difficulty—since no equipment is available—and rappels, the highest of which is 56 m. The Graon is a tributary of the Bendola. What sets it apart from its tributary is the constantly changing natural moss and the fairly dense vegetation around us. The following waterfalls are no higher than 30 m, so it’s better to take 3 ropes instead of 2 to pass the rappels more quickly. Well, it’s an intense day, because you shouldn’t hike during the hottest part of the day—except in the canyon, but that applies everywhere. One option is the Bears’ Bivouac, since the canyon exits right there. Then you have to walk to the exit at the Castou Bridge.
Return (1 h): ➜
From the Castou Bridge, head back to the exit of the road closed to vehicles to return home.
