Von Gmunden kommend fährt man in die Ortschaft Grünau im Almtal. Am Ortsende folgt man der Beschilderung "Almsee 13Km". Nach ca. 11 Km auf der Österreichischen Romantikstraße kommt rechts ein einzelner großer Hof (Schwarzenbrunn) und kurz danach eine Brücke über den Weisseneggbach. Hier startet die Bike-Strecke. Laut Beschilderung sollte nach der Brücke links am kostenpflichtigen Parkplatz (mit öffentlicher Toilette) geparkt werden (€5,-/PKW/Tag/Bademöglichkeit). Es gibt aber auch neben der Straße Parkmöglichkeiten. !Nicht wundern. Der GPS Bike Track wurde bei der Estbegehung bei nächsten Forststraße aufgezeichnet. Hier gibt es jetzt aber ein Fahrverbotsschild.

Coming from Gmunden, drive into the village of Grünau im Almtal. At the edge of town, follow the signs for “Almsee 13 km.” After about 11 km on the Austrian Romantic Road, you’ll see a large, isolated farmstead (Schwarzenbrunn) on the right, followed shortly afterward by a bridge over the Weisseneggbach. This is where the bike route begins. According to the signs, you should park on the left after the bridge at the paid parking lot (with public restrooms) (€5 per car per day, including access to the swimming area). However, there are also parking options next to the road. Don’t be surprised! The GPS bike track was recorded during the preliminary reconnaissance at the nearest forest road. However, there is now a “No Bicycles” sign there.

Vom PKW Parkplatz aus folgt man mit dem Bike der meist flachen und breiten Forststraße (MTB Tafel / 15. April-31. Oktober erlaubt!) neben dem Weisseneggbach. Nach längerer Strecke überquert man den Bach und die Forststraße wird steiler. Es folgen drei Serpentinenkurven und eine Abzweigung. Hier folgt man der Forststraße links mit der Wegtafel 420-04-06. Die Forststraße führt jetzt leicht bergab bis zur Nesselbachbrücke mit Jagdhütte. Von hier noch etwas weiter zurück bis zur zweiten Jagdhütte mit Brunnen. Hier das Bike abstellen und den markanten Weg/Steig direkt neben dem Bach folgen bis dieser nach ca. 40min. und einigen HM wieder auf den Bach trifft (man könnte auch schon früher in die Tour einsteigen)

From the car parking lot, follow the mostly flat and wide forest road (MTB sign / permitted April 15–October 31!) alongside the Weisseneggbach on your bike. After a long stretch, you’ll cross the stream, and the forest road becomes steeper. This is followed by three switchbacks and a fork in the road. Here, follow the forest road to the left, marked by trail sign 420-04-06. The forest road now leads slightly downhill to the Nesselbach Bridge with a hunting lodge. From here, continue a little further back to the second hunting lodge with a fountain. Park your bike here and follow the distinct path right next to the stream until, after about 40 minutes and a few hundred meters of elevation gain, it meets the stream again (you could also start the tour earlier).

Viele kleinere Stufen und Abseiler bis zu 30m wechseln sich ab. Immer wieder einiges an Holz in der Tour, kaltes Wasser, zwei Ausstiegs-/Einstiegsmöglichkeiten, viele rutschige Stellen, meist nur Einzelhaken, mehrere Engstellen und Abseilstellen im Wasserlauf (Wasserstand kontrollieren!)

There is a succession of many small steps and rappels of up to 30 meters. There are frequent sections with logs along the route, cold water, two exit/entry points, many slippery spots, mostly single pitons, several narrow sections, and rappelling points in the stream (check the water level!).

Nach dem letzten Abseiler öffnet sich die Schlucht wieder. Bei ca. 830Hm orografisch links beim Steinmanderl aussteigen und auf den Wanderweg zurück zum Fahrrad Abstellplatz.

After the last rappel, the canyon opens up again. At an elevation gain of approximately 830 meters, exit on the orographic left near the Steinmanderl and follow the hiking trail back to the bike parking area.
