Von Tarvisio kommend fährt man entweder auf der SS13 (Kanaltal Bundestraße) bis zur Ortschaft Dogna oder über die Autobahn (Abfahrt Pontebba) + ein paar Km. Bundestraße. In der Ortschaft Dogna folgt man der Beschilderung/ Straße über die Fella Richtung Dognatal. Gleich nach der Brücke die über die Fella führt kommt rechts ein großer Schotterparkplatz (Holzlagerplatz). Hier folgt man der Straße weiter Taleinwärts durch den kleinen Tunnel bis in den Ort Roncheschin. Bei der Brücke mit einem kleinen Wasserkrafthäuschen die über den Rio Terra Rossa führt, kann der Wasserstand kontrolliert werden (Kommt das Wasser hier über die ganze Breite der letzten künstlichen Stufe, ist von einer Begehung eher abzuraten). Nach der Kontrolle biegt man (vor dem Ortschild „Chiutdipupe“) rechts ab und fährt zur Häusergruppe Nähe des Torrente Dognas, wo man das erste Auto abstellt. Mit dem zweiten PKW fährt man zurück Richtung Dogna und kurz vor der Fellabrücke rechts. Nach 3-4 Häuser biegt man nochmals rechts Richtung „Chiout Pupin“ ab. Man folgt der steilen asphaltierten Bergstraße bis zum Ende (wegen der tiefen Wasserrinnen braucht man etwas Bodenfreiheit). Am Ende der Straße bei Chiout Pupin gibt es nur begrenzte Parkmöglichkeiten (Rücksicht auf Einheimische nehmen!).(Fahrzeugüberstellung ca. 3Km).

Coming from Tarvisio, you can either take the SS13 (Canal Valley federal road) to the village of Dogna or take the highway (Pontebba exit) + a few km. federal road. In Dogna follow the signs/road over the Fella towards the Dogna Valley. Immediately after the bridge over the Fella there is a large gravel parking place on the right. Here you follow the road further into the valley through the small tunnel to the village of Roncheschin. At the bridge with a small hydroelectric powerhouse that leads over the Rio Terra Rossa, you can check the water level (if the water comes over the entire width of the last artificial step, it is not advisable to go there). After the check, turn right (before the sign "Chiutdipupe") and drive to the group of houses near Torrente Dognas, where you leave the first car. With the second car, go back towards Dogna and turn right just before the bridge over the Fell. After 3-4 houses turn right again towards "Chiout Pupin". Follow the steep asphalted mountain road until the exit (because of the deep water channels you need some ground clearance). At the exit of the road at Chiout Pupin there is limited parking (take care of locals!).(Vehicle transfer about 3Km).

Vom Parkplatz bei der kleinen Häusergruppe führt etwas oberhalb der Straße der Wanderweg 602 in den Wald hoch. Man folgt den Weg, vorbei an einer Materialseilbahnstütze und einer Ruine mit Wandermarkierung bis zur Felswand. Hier führt ein Metalsteg über eine ausgesetzte Stelle. Danach kommt eine Abzweigung. Hier den linken steilen Hauptweg für längere Zeit folgend. Am höchsten Punkt auf 1560m "Clap Forat" angekommen zieht der Weg nach rechts in offenes Gelände mit schönen Ausblick in das Kanaltal und Slowenien. Der Weg führt nun in Richtung des gut sichtbaren gegenüberliegenden Gipfel "Cuel Formian" steil nach unten und trifft in kürze auf den von der linken Seite kommenden Weg 602A (Markierung am Baum). An der Stelle wo sich der Weg 602 und 602A treffen ("Forc Mingigos") geht es, zuerst rechts dann links haltend, über eine steile breite Wald/Laubboden-Rinne in den Bach hinunter. Der Einstieg der Tour liegt auf ca. 1300m wo sich zwei kleine meist trockene Bacharme treffen.

From the parking lot at the small group of houses, hiking trail 602 leads slightly above the road up into the forest. Follow the path past a material ropeway support and a ruin with hiking markings to the rock face. Here a metal footbridge leads over an exposed section. Then you come to a fork. Follow the steep main path on the left for a long time. Once you reach the highest point at 1560m "Clap Forat", the path turns right into open terrain with beautiful views of the Kanaltal valley and Slovenia. The path now descends steeply towards the clearly visible opposite peak "Cuel Formian" and soon meets path 602A (marked on the tree) coming from the left. At the point where paths 602 and 602A meet ("Forc Mingigos"), the route descends, first keeping right then left, down a steep, wide forest/leafy ground chute into the stream. The entry point of the tour is at approx. 1300m where two small, mostly dry branches of the stream meet.

Nach den nicht ganz einfachen, konditionell vorderenden Zustieg steht man im meist trockenen karstigen Bach. Der alpine Canyon hat mehrere Abseilstellen bis max. 37m. Bis auf einen verblocken Abschnitt wo man ca. 15min. absteigt ist die Schlucht sehr kontinuierlich. Im Laufe des Abstiegs kommen mehrere kleine Zuflüsse in den Bach und bringen somit etwas mehr Wasser für den unteren Abschnitt (3mm Neopren ist meist ausreichend). Die Schlucht ist sicherlich nach Regenfällen oder wenn andere Touren nicht möglich sind am lohnendsten. Wegen der Abgeschiedenheit und den vielen Abseilerstellen sollte die Tour aber nicht unterschätzt werden. Es besteht die Möglichkeit auf ca. 830m, wo der untere Teil der Terra Rossa beginnt, rechts auszusteigen (ca. 30min bis zum Einstiegsparkplatz „Ciout Pupin“). Empfehlenswert ist es aber gleich den unteren Teil mitzumachen (+ ca. 1,5-2std.). Im gesamten ist die Terra Rossa sup.+ inf. Eine alpine Ganztagestour mit schönen Abschnitten und meist wenig Wasser.

After the not quite easy, conditionally vorderenden access you stand in the mostly dry karstic stream. The alpine canyon has several rappelling points up to max. 37m. The canyon is very continuous, except for a part where you have to descend for about 15 minutes. As you walk down, several small tributaries enter the creek, bringing a little more water to the lower part (3mm neoprene is usually sufficient). The canyon is certainly most rewarding after rains or when other tours are not possible. However, because of the remoteness and the many rappelling points, the tour should not be underestimated. There is the possibility to get out on the right at about 830m, where the lower part of the Terra Rossa begins (about 30min to the parking entry "Ciout Pupin"). However, it is recommended to do the lower part right away (+ approx. 1,5-2h). In general, the Terra Rossa is superiore + inferiore. An alpine full day tour with beautiful parts and mostly little water.
