Von Salzburg Süd Richtung Berchtesgaden fahren. In der Ortschaft Marktschellenberg weiter der Beschilderung Ettenberg 4Km folgen. Hier beginnt die Bergstraße die auch zum Hochthron Klettersteig führt. Nach einigen Serpentinenkurven kommt eine Häusergruppe an der man vorbei fährt. Danach führt der Straße leicht Bergab zu einem einzelnen Haus auf der re Seite „Roßboden 4“. Hier nur kl. Parkmöglichkeiten neben der Wandertafel.

From Salzburg Süd drive in the direction of Berchtesgaden. In the village of Marktschellenberg, follow the signs to Ettenberg for 4 km. Here begins the mountain road which also leads to the Hochthron via ferrata. After a few serpentine bends, you will pass a group of houses. Then the road leads slightly downhill to a single house on the right "Roßboden 4". Here there are only small parking spaces next to the hiking sign.

Hinter dem Haus geht man über die Wiese leicht abfallend Richtung Wald (nicht der Wanderbeschilderung folgen!). Am Ende der Wiese zweigt ein kleiner Pfad li in den Wald ab. Den Pfad folgt man zuerst ohne Höhenunterschied. Danach führt der nun schlecht erkennbare Pfad li ansteigend zum Waldrand. Am Waldrand angekommen sieht man schon einige Kaskaden vom Bach. Ab hier folgt man einen alten zum Teil abschüssigen Steig neben der Schlucht entlang. Der Weg ist durch hohes Gras nicht immer leicht erkennbar aber mit etwas Orientierungssinn sollte das kein Problem sein. Nach mehreren Zufluss-Überquerungen und kleinen kurzen Anstieg am Schluss, steht man auf 860m fast schon im Bach (leichter Einstieg auf 860m).

Behind the house, walk slightly downhill across the meadow towards the forest (do not follow the hiking signs!). At the exit of the meadow, a small path branches off to the left into the forest. Follow the path initially without any difference in altitude. Afterwards, the now poorly recognizable path leads left uphill to the edge of the forest. Once you reach the edge of the forest, you can already see some cascades from the stream. From here, follow an old, partly steep path alongside the canyon. The path is not always easy to see through the tall grass, but with a little sense of direction this should not be a problem. After several tributary crossings and a short climb at the end, you are almost in the stream at 860m (easy entry at 860m).

Die Tour beginnt auf 850m mit schönen kleinen Gumpen und einer schrägen Felsplatte wo sich li ein Bohrhaken befindet. Danach kommt eine kurze Geh- und Abkletterpasage. Ab der nächsten 10m Stufe wird es dann kontinuierlicher. Es folgen mehrere schöne (max.20m) Abseilstellen, die zum Teil auch abgeklettert werden können. Bei den kleinen Rutsch- oder Sprungmöglichkeiten sollte man vorsichtig sein, da die Gumpen oft zugeschottert sind. Die Abseilstellen in der Schlucht sind meist nicht höher als 10m. Jedoch können einzelne Engstellen bei höherem Wasserstand ziemlich unangenehm werden. Im unteren flachen und offenen Schluchtenabschnitt (nach dem 1.Zufluss von re.) kommen längere Geh- und Abkletterpassagen die von einigen kleinen Stufen/Abseilstellen unterbrochen werden. Eine unangenehme enge Kaskade im Wasser kann re. abseilend von einem Baum (Schlinge) umgangen werden. Vor einem weiteren markanten 2.Zufluss von re hat man die Möglichkeit aus der Schlucht auszusteigen (siehe Ausstieg) oder man folgt dem Bach bis zur Brücke/Forststraße auf 580m.

The tour begins at 850m with beautiful small pools and a sloping rock slab where a bolt is left. This is followed by a short walking and climbing passage. From the next 10m step it becomes more continuous. This is followed by several beautiful (max. 20m) abseils, some of which can also be downclimbed. You should be careful with the small slides and possible jumps, as the pools are often covered in gravel. The abseiling points in the canyon are usually no higher than 10m. However, individual narrow sections can be quite unpleasant at higher water levels. In the lower flat and open section of the gorge (after the 1st inflow from the right) there are longer walking and downclimbs interrupted by a few small steps/abseils. An unpleasant narrow cascade in the water can be bypassed on the right by rappelling from a tree (sling). Before another striking 2nd tributary on the right, you have the option of exiting the canyon (see exit) or following the stream to the bridge/forest road at 580m.

1. Möglichkeit (20min) Empfehlung!: Man steigt ca.100m vor einem markanten 2.Zufluss (bei einem großen Felsen mit Steinmandl) auf ca. 620m re aus der Schlucht aus. Hier durch das kurze steile Grasgelände hoch zu einem ausgetretenen Pfad, über den man relativ gut und schnell zur Forststraße hoch gelangt. Dieser Forststraße folgt man dann re. (am Jagdhaus vorbei) kurz und steil zum Parkplatz hoch. 2. Möglichkeit (30min): Man steigt bei der Brücke auf 580m aus und folgt der Forststraße re bis zur Beschilderung. Hier der Forststraße Richtung Ettenberg bis zum Parkplatz ansteigend folgen. 3. Möglichkeit :Man begeht noch den unteren Teil "Rothmannbach"(siehe Beschreibung Rothmannbach) der bei der Königseeache endet.

1st possibility (20min) Recommendation: Exit the canyon approx. 100m before a prominent 2nd tributary (at a large rock with a cairn) at approx. 620m to the right. Here through the short steep grassy area up to a well-trodden path, which leads relatively easily and quickly up to the forest road. Follow this forest road to the right (past the hunting lodge) up a short and steep climb to the parking lot. 2nd possibility (30min): Get off at the bridge at 580m and follow the forest road right to the signposts. Follow the forest road uphill towards Ettenberg to the parking lot. 3rd possibility: Walk the lower part of the "Rothmannbach" (see description Rothmannbach) which exits at the Königseeache.
