The first part is steep with beautiful rappels, the second part is a pure hiking canyon in bedrock, the third part is a beautiful, very narrowly cut low gorge with many slides. Part II and III would actually be perfect for kids if it weren't for the long access and return. Very well equipped (glued anchors and chain anchors); beautiful mountain scenery; cold water; rappel mostly in the watercourse; several emergency exits possible on the right; long access with a ban even for bicycles (still worthwhile).

Auf der A9 bis zur Autobahnabfahrt St. Pankratz-Hinterstoder. Dann weiter auf der B139 Richtung Klaus und ein paar Kilometer weiter Richtung Steyrling abzweigen. Man folgt der Asphaltstraße durch den Ort die dann in eine Schotterstraße übergeht. Dieser Schotterstraße folgt man vorbei am Waldfriedhof bis direkt vor dem Schranken mit Tafel Fahrrad Fahrverbot und Forststraße. Hier links Parkmöglichkeit (wenn voll, 100m vorher parken).

Take the A9 to the St. Pankratz-Hinterstoder exit. Then continue on the B139 towards Klaus and a few kilometers further turn off towards Steyrling. Follow the asphalt road through the village which then turns into a gravel road. Follow this gravel road past the forest cemetery until directly in front of the barrier with the sign "Fahrrad Fahrverbot" and forest road. Here you can park on the left (if full, park 100m before).

Vom Schranken folgt man der breiten Forststraße (Wanderweg 430) für 30-35min folgen (1. Weggabelung links, 2. Weggabelung rechts, 3. Weggabelung rechts). Nach der 3. Weggabelung folgt man der Forststraße in den Talschluss. Kurz vor Ende der Forststraße folgt man den sichtbaren Pfad neben dem Bach. Der Pfad verläuft zuerst auf der orographisch linken Seite und quert dann den Bach (Ausstieg). Ein Drahtseil auf der anderen Bachseite ist sehr hilfreich für den weiteren Verlauf auf der orographisch rechten Seite. Man folgt den Pfad, der nicht immer leicht erkennbar ist, bis zu einem Jägerstand. Von hier kann man schon den letzten 30m Wasserfall erkennen. Von Jägerstand weiter links absteigen (Drahtseile) und über das Geröllfeld (Bachbett). Auf der anderen Seite führt ein schmaler steiler mit Drahtseilen versicherter Steig in den oberen Stierkarkessel bis auf 1040m (Einstieg oberhalb des hohen 42m Wasserfalls!).

From the barrier follow the wide forest road (trail 430) for 30-35min (1st fork left, 2nd fork right, 3rd fork right). After the 3rd fork, follow the forest road into the valley head. Just before the exit of the forest road, follow the visible path next to the stream. The path first runs on the orographic left side and then crosses the stream (exit). A wire rope on the other side of the stream is very helpful for the further course on the orographic right side. You follow the path, which is not always easily recognizable, until you reach a hunter's stand. From here you can already see the last 30m waterfall. From the hunter's stand descend further to the left (wire ropes) and across the boulder field (streambed). On the other side, a narrow steep path secured with wire ropes leads into the upper Taurus cirque up to 1040m (entry above the high 42m waterfall!).

Die Schlucht ist in einer wunderschönen entlegenen Gegend und kann nur zu Fuß erreicht werden. Der lange Zustieg sollte aber nicht abschrecken da man nur am Ende richtig Höhenmeter macht. Am Anfang der Tour steht man im großen Stierkarkessel wo es ohne große Wegstrecke gleich mit den ersten von 11 Abseilstellen los geht. Der Hauptteil der Wasserführung wird beim Einstieg aus dem Kiesbett gedrückt, die Wassertemperatur in der ersten Klamm ist sehr kalt. Die Gumpen in der Schlucht sind meist zugekiest dafür bekommt man bei einigen Abseilstellen eine gute Dusche. Erwähnenswert ist auch das es an den meisten Abseilstellen nummerierte Plaketten von der Berg- und Canyoning Einsatzgruppe OÖ gibt. Der Standplatz an der höchsten Abseilstelle (42m) kann mittels abziehbares Seilgeländer erreicht werden. Die Kettenstände an den letzten zwei hohen (32m und 30m) Abseilstellen sind sehr hoch angebracht, können aber gut erreicht werden. Nach dem letzten hohen Wasserfall kommt nur noch eine kleine Stufe die mittels Seil von Haken (links) schnell überwunden ist. Danach könnte man auf ca.850m rechts zurück auf den Zustiegspfad austeigen. Wir empfehlen den Bach für ca. 30min. ohne großen Höhenunterschied weiter zu folgen (Rutschen, kleine Gumpen, schöne Windungen und kleine Abklettereien). An der Stelle wo der Weg den Bach quert sollte man links aussteigen (ca. 800m) da sich unserer Meinung nach ein weiteres absteigen nicht auszahlt (viel Holz, kurze Engstelle, eine Abseilstelle). Falls doch weiter gegangen wird: Teil II: Wandercanyon mit ein paar Minirutschen. In der Mitte befindet sich ein 4m Wasserfall der abgeseilt oder gesprungen werden kann - Schrofencanyon auf Grundgestein. Teil III: Niedrig aber eng eingeschnitten mit herrlichen Auswaschungen im weissen Fels. Abseiler (max. 10m) gibts nur dort wo Baumhindernisse die Klamm versperren. Die Klamm endet bei der Mündung eines trockenen Bachbetts von links auf Höhe 'Paukenhansel'. Wenn man die ganze Schlucht bis zur Mündung in die Steyr gehen will folgen noch etwa 35min Gehgelände durch die Heindlbodenschlucht, dann eine kurze Klamm mit einigen Sprüngen (leider oft trocken - das Wasser versickert unmittelbar vor der Klamm und kommt an deren Ende wieder zum Vorschein) und nochmal 40min Gehgelände bis zur Steyr (Sprungmöglichkeit 3m vor der Mündung).

The canyon is in a beautifully remote area and can only be reached on foot. However, the long access should not put you off as you only really gain altitude at the exit. At the start of the tour, you are in the large Stierkarkessel, where the first of 11 abseiling points starts without a long stretch. Most of the water is pushed out of the gravel bed at the entry, the water temperature in the first gorge is very cold. The pools in the canyon are mostly covered with gravel, but you get a good shower at some of the abseiling points. It is also worth mentioning that there are numbered badges from the Upper Austrian mountain and canyoning team at most of the abseiling points. The stand at the highest abseil point (42m) can be reached by means of a removable rope traverse. The chain anchors at the last two high abseiling points (32m and 30m) are very high, but can be easily reached. After the last high waterfall, there is only a small step that is quickly overcome using ropes from anchors (left). After this, you can get back onto the access path on the right at approx. 850m. We recommend following the stream for about 30 minutes without much difference in altitude (slides, small pools, nice twists and turns and small climbs). At the point where the path crosses the stream, you should exit to the left (approx. 800m) as in our opinion it is not worth descending further (lots of wood, short narrow section, one abseiling point). If you do go further: Part II: hiking canyon with a few mini slides. In the middle there is a 4m waterfall that can be rappelled or jumped - rock canyon on bedrock. Part III: Low but narrow with beautiful washouts in the white rock. Rappels (max. 10m) are only possible where tree obstacles block the gorge. The gorge exits at the mouth of a dry streambed from the left at the height of 'Paukenhansel'. If you want to walk the whole canyon to the mouth of the Steyr, there is another 35 minutes of walking through the Heindlbodenschlucht, then a short gorge with some jumps (unfortunately often dry - the water seeps away just before the gorge and reappears at its exit) and another 40 minutes of walking to the Steyr (possible jumps 3m before the mouth).

Man folgt den flachen Zustiegspfad und der Forststraße zurück zum Parkplatz Falls wie oben beschrieben Teil 2 und 3 auch begangen werden: Steigspuren links bis zur Forststrasse, dann auf dieser zurück zum Parkplatz.
