Von Málaga auf der A7 oder auf der neu erbauten Autobahn AP 7 (Autopista de Mediterraneo - Maut) in Richtung Algeciras. Fährt man auf der A 7, biegt man in San Luis de Sabinillas nach rechts ab und fährt auf der A 377 in Richtung Norden nach Gaucín. Auf dem Weg dorthin überquert man nach Manilva die obengenannte Autobahn AP 7, die man bei der Ausfahrt Gaucín/San Louis de Sabillinas verlässt, um dann ebenfalls in Richtung Norden nach Gaucín zu fahren. Nach einer langen Abfahrt ins Tal und einer ebenso langen Auffahrt gegenüber erreicht man die Ortschaft Gaucín. Hier fährt man im Ort links nach Westen auf der A 405 in Richtung Algeciras, zweigt aber bald rechts ab auf die MA 9300 nach El Colmenar. Vor dem Ort El Colmenar quert man den Rio Guadiaro. 300 m nach der Brücke zweigt im Ort nach rechts eine Straße ab, die mit Central Buitreras ausgeschildert ist. Auf dieser Straße fährt man in Richtung Kraftwerk (= Central de Buitreras), vorbei an rechtsstehenden Platanen, dann Eukalyptusbäumen bis kurz vor das Tor zum Kraftwerk. Direkt vor dem Tor gibt es eine kleine Parkfläche für ca. 2-3 Autos. Hier parken.

From Málaga on the A7 or on the newly built highway AP 7 (Autopista de Mediterraneo - toll) in the direction of Algeciras. If you are driving on the A 7, turn right in San Luis de Sabinillas and drive north on the A 377 to Gaucín. On the way there, after Manilva, you cross the aforementioned AP 7 highway, which you leave at the Gaucín/San Louis de Sabillinas exit and then also head north to Gaucín. After a long descent into the valley and an equally long ascent opposite, you reach the village of Gaucín. Here you turn left in the village to the west on the A 405 towards Algeciras, but soon turn right onto the MA 9300 to El Colmenar. Before reaching El Colmenar, cross the Rio Guadiaro. 300 m after the bridge, a road branches off to the right in the village and is signposted Central Buitreras. Take this road in the direction of the power station (= Central de Buitreras), past plane trees on the right and then eucalyptus trees until just before the gate to the power station. Directly in front of the gate there is a small parking area for about 2-3 cars. Park here.

Durch die Eisentüre betritt man (erlaubterweise) den Kraftwerksbereich, geht auf der Straße bis zum großen Fallrohr. An diesem entlang hinauf stößt man unmittelbar nach der Umzäunung des Kraftwerksbereiches auf einen Fußweg, dem man nach rechts folgt. Er führt uns in der Folge immer am orograf. rechten Ufer des Guadiaro entlang (flussaufwärts) und wir queren nach etwa 20 Min. ein Bachbett (hier wird manchmal Überschusswasser aus dem zum Kraftwerk führenden Kanal in den Guadiaro eingeleitet). Weiter am Fluss entlang umgeht man die ersten 3 Tunnels (der letzte mit anschließender Galerie).Nach dem Überqueren eines Geröllfeldes (etwa 50 Min ab Kraftwerk) hält man sich weiterhin unten in Flussnähe, bis man auf den Hang trifft, den wir auf schwachen Steigspuren zum Sattel hinauf ziehen (1 Std. 15 Min. ab Kraftwerk). So umgehen wir den den vierten (langen) Tunnel. Jenseits des Sattels geht es hinab zum Bahngleis und unmittelbar vor dem Gleiskörper rechts hinab in das Flussbett. Nur weil historisch interessant, hier die frühere Zustiegsbeschreibung (2002)in Form einer individuell gestalteten Anekdote(pn):'Der hier beschriebene Zustieg ist offiziell verboten, aber mit 45 Minuten der kürzeste. Er führt über die Geleise der Bahnlinie Algeciras - Granada und durch vier Tunnels, von denen der letzte 800 m lang ist. Es steht eine Strafe von 505 bis 1010 EUR auf das Betreten der Bahnanlagen. Die Erfahrung zeigt aber, dass es fast alle, - Wanderer und Schluchtengeher -, so machen.Es empfiehlt sich am Wochenende zu gehen, da dann keine Güterzüge fahren. Die Fahrzeiten der (zumindest der Personen-)Züge lassen sich im Internet unter www.renfe.es für die Linie Algeciras - Granada unter der Station Gaucín herausfinden.Von dem Parkplatz bei dem Schuppen hoch zur Bahnlinie und auf dem Schotter ostwärts in Richtung der Schlucht. Die ersten Tunnels sind kurz und ohne Taschenlampe begehbar. Der letzte ist 800 m lang, zwar kerzengerade, aber ohne Lampe nicht zu machen. Die Züge kündigen sich nicht immer durch Horn an. Im Falle einer Begegnung mit einem Zug im Tunnel, kann man sich ganz dicht an die Tunnelmauer gepresst wie ein Reptil auf den Boden legen und den Zug problemlos vorbeifahren lassen. Allerdings wird behauptet, dass die Lokführer ihre Entdeckung der Guardia Civil weitermelden. In einem solchen Fall empfiehlt sich ein alternativer Ausstieg, der anschließend beschrieben wird.Nach drei kürzeren Tunnels durchquert man zuerst eine rechts offene Gallerie und direkt anschließend den vierten 800 m langen Tunnel. Wieder im Freien sieht man weiter vorne einen verfallenen Schuppen. Kurz davor kann man hinter der Mauer neben dem Gleis zur Schlucht absteigen (45 Min. ab Auto).Direkt nach dem Ende des vierten Tunnels erkennt man rechts einen Weg, der bachabwärts zu einer Brücke in der Schlucht führt. Enter the power station area (legally) through the iron door and walk along the road to the large downpipe. Follow the road uphill until you reach a footpath immediately after the fence around the power station, which you follow to the right. It then leads you along the orographic right bank of the Guadiaro (upstream) and after about 20 minutes you cross a streambed (excess water from the canal leading to the power station is sometimes discharged into the Guadiaro here). Continue along the river, bypassing the first 3 tunnels (the last one with an adjoining gallery) and after crossing a boulder field (about 50 min from the power station), continue down close to the river until you reach the slope, which you follow up to the saddle on faint climbing tracks (1 hour 15 min from the power station). This way we avoid the fourth (long) tunnel. Beyond the saddle, we descend to the railroad track and immediately before the track descend to the right into the river bed. Just because it is historically interesting, here is the earlier access description (2002) in the form of an individually designed anecdote(pn): 'The access described here is officially forbidden, but at 45 minutes it is the shortest. It leads over the tracks of the Algeciras - Granada railroad line and through four tunnels, the last of which is 800 m long. There is a fine of 505 to 1010 EUR for trespassing on the railroad tracks. In der Schlucht sind lange Schwimmstrecken zurückzulegen vorbei an fantastisch ausgewaschenen Kolken. Gelegentlich hat man den Eindruck in einer Höhle zu schwimmen. Die Schlucht kann nur gefahrlos begangen werden, wenn beim ersten Abseiler kein oder kaum Wasser fließt (konnte ich 2002 in einer Beschreibung lesen). Bei Unwettern kann die Tour zur Katastrophe werden, da ein Klemmblock in der Schlucht dann einen gefährlichen Siphon bildet, der bei Trockenheit leicht durchschwommen werden kann. (p.n.) Begehung Nov. 2002:Auch bei stärkerer Wasserführung (50 x 10 cm im Querschnitt) ist eine Begehung möglich. Der Wasserstand kann erst vor dem langen Tunnel beurteilt werden, da später noch ggf. kräftige Zuflüsse den Wasserstand mehren. Der Siphon ist eigentlich völlig problemlos, da das Wasser dort aufgrund der Breite und Tiefe praktisch steht und man über den eingeklemmten Stein klettern kann, wenn man nicht durchtauchen will.Am ehesten bereitet ein 6-m-Abseiler Probleme, da sich hier die Wasserführung auf ca. 40-50 cm verengt (vgl. obiger Querschnitt!) und dann im Bogen in eine enge Rinne unter einem Klemmstein hineinhaut. Man muss dann mit einem Hechtsprung durch den Wasserfall, damit man nicht im Rücklauf hinter dem Wasserfall 'verhängt'.Wir sind aufgrund ausreichender Wasserführung bis zum E-Werk hinausgeschwommen, waren aber rund 5 Std. im Fluss, wohl auch weil wir weiter oberhalb eingestiegen sind.Das Wasser war aber ziemlich verdreckt, ist bei fehlendem Wasserfluss sauber.

In the canyon, you have to swim long distances past fantastically washed-out pools. Occasionally you have the impression of swimming in a cave. The canyon can only be entered safely if there is little or no water flowing at the first rappel (I read this in a description in 2002). During storms, the tour can become a disaster, as a clamping block in the canyon then forms a dangerous siphon, which can easily be swum through in dry weather. (p.n.) Ascent Nov. 2002:Even with a stronger water flow (50 x 10 cm in cross-section), an ascent is possible. The water level can only be assessed before the long tunnel, as strong inflows may increase the water level later. The siphon is actually completely problem-free, as the water is practically stagnant there due to the width and depth and you can climb over the jammed stone if you don't want to dive through.6 m rappel is most likely to cause problems, as the water channel narrows to approx. 40-50 cm here (see cross-section above!) and then curves into a narrow chute under a clamping stone. You then have to take a pike jump through the waterfall so that you don't get 'stuck' in the return flow behind the waterfall. we swam out to the E-Werk due to sufficient water flow, but were in the river for around 5 hours, probably also because we got in further upstream. the water was quite dirty, but is clean when there is no water flow.

Nach dem Ende der Schlucht durchquert man ein Blockverhau. Danach durchschwimmt man einen Kanal mit frischem Wasser (wird von einer Quelle gespeist; lohnende Passage). Nach Ende des Kanals geht der Bach flach weiter. Hier nach rechts aus dem Wasser heraus und auf deutlich sichtbarem Weg aus der Schlucht wandern. Man hält sich auf dem Weg bei Abzweigungen immer nach links und gelangt wieder zu den Fallrohren und dem Ausgangsparkplatz zurück.

After the exit of the canyon, you cross a boulder jam. You then swim through a channel with fresh water (fed by a spring; a rewarding passage). After the exit of the channel, the stream continues flat. Turn right out of the water here and hike out of the canyon on a clearly visible path. Always keep left at junctions along the path and you will return to the downpipes and the starting parking lot.

Möglichst den Canyon begehen, wenn kein Wasserdurchsatz, da die Gumpen dann klarsind. Bei Wasserdurchsatz schmutzige Brühe und mehr Risiko. Staudamm im Oberlauf mit Kraftwerk unterhalb der Schlucht.
