Von Ierapetra in Richtung Viannos westwärts am Meer entlang (selten zu sehen) nach Myrtos (14 km). Am Ort vorbei, biegen wir von der Hauptstraße in nördlicher Richtung ab (Mithi, Males). Wir durchfahren Mithi und biegen einige km nach dieser Ortschaft links ab zum Ausgang der Sarakina-Schlucht (Staumauer). Auf der großen Parkfläche stellen wir das untere Fahrzeug ab.\n\nMit dem zweiten Fahrzeug geht es zurück zur Straße und auf dieser wieder in nördlicher Richtung weiter. Wir nehmen dann wiederum einige km weiter nicht die Straße nach Males, sondern folgen der links abgehenden Straße, die uns nach Hristos führt. Die Teerstraße bringt uns weiter - zuletzt über einige Serpentinen - hinauf nach Metaxohori. Wir fahren in südlicher Richtung durch den Ort, die Teerstraße wandelt sich zur Piste und wir fahren auf dieser weiter. Etwa 2,5 km nach Metaxochori durchfahren wir ein Tor und erreichen 1,5 km nach diesem zuerst das Bachbett des Zonari und wenige Meter danach den Platz, wo wir das zweite Fahrzeug abstellen können (Umsetzung ca. 17 km).\n\n \n\nMit dem zweiten Fahrzeug geht es zurück zur Straße und auf dieser wieder in nördlicher Richtung weiter. Wir nehmen dann wiederum einige km weiter nicht die Straße nach Males, sondern folgen der links abgehenden Straße, die uns nach Hristos führt. Die Teerstraße bringt uns weiter - zuletzt über einige Serpentinen - hinauf nach Metaxohori. Wir fahren in südlicher Richtung durch den Ort, die Teerstraße wandelt sich zur Piste und wir fahren auf dieser weiter. From Ierapetra in the direction of Viannos westward along the sea (rarely seen) to Myrtos (14 km). Passing the village, we turn off the main road in northern direction (Mithi, Males). We pass through Mithi and a few km after this village we turn left to the exit of the Sarakina canyon (dam). On the large parking area we park the lower vehicle.\n\nWith the second vehicle we go back to the road and continue on it again in northern direction. Again we do not take the road to Males, but follow the road to the left, which leads us to Hristos. The tarred road brings us further - finally over some serpentines - up to Metaxohori. We drive south through the village, the tarred road turns into a dirt road and we continue on it. About 2,5 km after Metaxochori we pass a gate and 1,5 km after it we reach first the streambed of Zonari and a few meters after that the place where we can park the second vehicle (conversion about 17 km).\n\n\n\ With the second vehicle we go back to the road and continue on it again in northern direction. We then again a few km further do not take the road to Males, but follow the road leaving to the left, which leads us to Hristos. The tarred road brings us further - finally over some serpentines - up to Metaxohori. We drive south through the village, the tarred road turns into a dirt road and we continue on it. About 2.5 km after Metaxohori we pass through a gate and 1.5 km after this we reach first the streambed of the Zonari and a few meters later the place where we can park the second vehicle (realization about 17 km).\nThe distance data in Bromirakis' book referring to the access road should be treated with caution.

Man kann die Tour noch etwas 'anreichern', wenn man zu Beginn noch den rechten Seitencanyon (auf der Topo-Skizze im Buch von Bromirakis als 'Canyon Right' bezeichnet)'mitnimmt'. Man erreicht diesen eng geschnittenen und zumindest im Frühjahr wasserführenden Seitencanyon, nachdem man den Zonari ein Stück weit abgeklettert ist; man nimmt dann direkt nach dem Zufluss rechts den Pfad, der uns in etwa 10 Min. hinaufbringt zum Beginn des Einschnitts und zu unserem Abstieg in diesen Seitenbach (max. Abseilhöhe hier etwa 15 m).

You can 'enrich' the tour a little bit, if you 'take' the right side canyon (called 'Canyon Right' on the topographic view in Bromirakis' book) at the beginning. One reaches this narrowly cut and at least in spring water-bearing side canyon after having downclimbed the Zonari a bit; one then takes the path on the right directly after the tributary, which brings us in about 10 min. up to the beginning of the gulch and to our descent into this side stream (max. rappel height here about 15 m).

Nach Mündung der Zonari-Schlucht in die Sarazina-Schlucht (mit kontinuierlicher Wasserführung) folgt man dem Fluss nun abwärts bis zum Ende der Schlucht. An der Wasserfassung nehmen wir den Weg, der uns zum unteren Fahrzeug bringt.

After the confluence of the Zonari canyon with the Sarazina canyon (with continuous water flow), we now follow the river downhill to the exit of the canyon. At the water intake we take the path that brings us to the lower vehicle.
