Von Salzburg Süd über die A10 bis zur Abfahrt Golling. Dann weiter auf der B102 (Lammertalstraße) Richtung Abtenau. Auf der Höhe "Voglauerhof" fährt man links über die Lammer Brücke und dann gleich wieder links vorbei am Gasthaus Ascherbad. Man folgt der Bergstraße bis zum großen Wanderparkplatz bei Pichl (N47°36´03,00 E13°17´55,00). Hier wird das Auto abgestellt und auf das Fahrrad umgesattelt. Mit dem Fahrrad folgt man der breiten (meist flachen) Forststraße für ca. 6Km (ca.20-25min) in Richtung Postalm bis zur Brücke über den Ackersbach (ebenfalls Canyoningtour). Hier wird das Fahrrad abgestellt. Alternative Möglichkeit Bergzugang: Über die Mautpflichtige Postalmstraße (€14,-2026) hochfahren bis 47°38'36.1" - 13°25'22.9". Hier das Auto parken und auf das Fahrrad umsteigen. Von Parkplatz beim Schranken folgt man der Forststraße mit der Wandertafel "Voglau bei Abtenau 3 1/2h", vorbei an den Almen und entlang vom Lienbach führt die breite Forststraße ca. 4km talwärts. Hier überquert man den Zinkenbach (ebenfalls Canyoningtour) und nach weiteren 3Km gelangt man zur Brücke über den Ackersbach. Hier stellt man das Fahrrad ab.

From Salzburg South, take the A10 to the Golling exit. Then continue on the B102 (Lammertalstraße) toward Abtenau. When you reach “Voglauerhof,” turn left over the Lammer Bridge and then immediately left again, passing the Ascherbad Inn. Follow the mountain road to the large hiking parking lot near Pichl (N47°36´03.00 E13°17´55.00). Park your car here and switch to your bike. By bike, follow the wide (mostly flat) forest road for about 6 km (approx. 20–25 min) toward Postalm until you reach the bridge over the Ackersbach (also a canyoning route). Park your bike here. Alternative route to the mountain: Drive up the toll road to the Postalm (€14, 2026) to coordinates 47°38'36.1" - 13°25'22.9". Park your car here and switch to your bike. From the parking lot at the barrier, follow the forest road marked with the hiking sign “Voglau bei Abtenau 3 1/2h”; past the alpine pastures and along the Lienbach, the wide forest road leads about 4 km downhill. Here, cross the Zinkenbach (also a canyoning route), and after another 3 km, you’ll reach the bridge over the Ackersbach. Park your bike here.

Direkt bei der Brücke sieht man auch schon den Wasserstand vom Gerbach, der oberhalb der Brücke in den Ackersbach mündet. Von der Brücke aus folgt man dann zu Fuß noch für ca. 100m der Forststraße weiter hoch bis zur dritten linken Abzweigung (!die ersten beiden führen zum Forsthaus). Geht man an der dritten Abzweigung vorbei kommt eine gelbe Wandertafel mit der Aufschrift „Voglau/Postalm“ (alte Postalmstraße) hier führt auch noch ein unscheinbarer Pfad zur Forststraße hoch (Karrenweg Hochzinkenalmen). Dieser folgt man zuerst im offenen Gelände, dann durch den Wald bis zur steilen Felswand und Brücke über den Gerbach auf 1080m hoch. Tipp: nach ca. 30min bergauf könnte man li. auch schon gut in die Schlucht (direkt vor der 30m Kaskade) absteigen/einsteigen (=ca. 1h Zeitersparnis).

Directly at the bridge you can already see the water level of the Gerbach, which flows into the Ackersbach above the bridge. From the bridge, follow the forest road on foot for about 100m up to the third left fork (the first two lead to the forester's lodge). If you walk past the third junction, you will see a yellow hiking sign with the inscription "Voglau/Postalm" (old Postalm road), where an inconspicuous path leads up to the forest road (Karrenweg Hochzinkenalmen). Follow this first in open terrain, then through the forest up to the steep rock face and bridge over the Gerbach at 1080m. Tip: after approx. 30 minutes uphill, you could also descend/enter the canyon on the left (directly before the 30m cascade) (= approx. 1h time saving).

Der Gerbach ist eine abgelegene und daher eher selten begangene, schöne, lohnenswerte Schlucht. Einziges manko, sind nur einige Holzverklausungen die aber in den letzten Jahren weniger geworden sind. Wer sich für die interessante enge und vertikale Schlucht interessiert sollte unbedingt Wetter und Wasserstand checken, sowie Notbohrset mitführen. Wie schon beim Zustieg erwähnt kann man die Schlucht von ganz oben bei der kleinen Brücke über den Gerbach oder von weiter unten (sichtbarer Wildwechsel Pfad li. vor Felswand) beginnen. Gleich zu Beginn (Einstieg Brücke) kommt die erste 10m Abseilstelle im schmalen Schluchtenteil. Es folgen kleine Stufen die abgeklettert,abgeseilt oder gerutscht werden können. Danach kommt die erste hohe 20m Abseilstelle (Kettenstand li. weit vorne). Es folgen wieder einige kurze Abseilstellen und Abkletterpassagen in offener Umgebung. Nach einer 10m Abseilstelle rechts und einigen gr.Felsen könnte man die Schlucht links zum Forstweg verlassen (einzige Möglichkeit!). Es folgt eine kurze Abkletterpassage bis man vor der schönen 30m Kaskade und dem Eingeschnittenen Schluchtenabschnitt steht. Die Kaskade kann von einem Kettenstand in einem Stück abgeseilt werden oder man unterteilt sie (10m+20m). Nach dieser Abseilstelle bleibt es eng und kontinuierlich. Es folgen ca. 20 Abseilstellen bis max. 20m über 10mm Inox Haken u. Kettenstände (Die Haken sind nicht immer gleich sichtbar!) Sprünge sollten gut überlegt sein. Zwischen den Abseilstufen kommen einige meist sehr rutschige Baumverklausung die überstiegen oder abgeklettert werden müssen. Gegen Schluss der Tour kommt noch eine schöne 20m (re.) Abseilstelle mit einem Felsloch. Danach kommt noch eine eher flache rutschige Stecke mit zwei (drei) kurzen Abseilstellen bevor man auf ca. 800m (kl. alter Holzsteg) wieder bei den Fahrrädern steht.

The Gerbach is a secluded and therefore rarely visited, beautiful, and rewarding canyon. The only drawback is a few log barriers, though these have become less common in recent years. Anyone interested in this fascinating, narrow, and vertical canyon should definitely check the weather and water level, and be sure to bring an emergency drilling kit. As mentioned earlier regarding the access, you can start the canyon from the very top at the small bridge over the Gerbach or from further down (visible wildlife trail to the left before the rock face). Right at the start (bridge entry), you’ll encounter the first 10-meter rappel point in the narrow section of the gorge. This is followed by small steps that can be downclimbed, rappelled down, or slid down. After that comes the first high 20-meter rappel point (chain anchor far to the left). This is followed by several more short abseil sections and downclimbs in open terrain. After a 10-meter abseil section on the right and a few large rocks, you can exit the canyon to the left onto the forest trail (the only option!). A short downclimb follows until you reach the beautiful 30-meter cascade and the deeply incised section of the gorge. The cascade can be rappelled in one go from a chain anchor, or you can split it into two sections (10 m + 20 m). After this rappel, the route remains narrow and continuous. There are approximately 20 rappels to follow, up to a maximum of 20 meters, using 10mm stainless steel anchors and chain anchors (the anchors are not always immediately visible!). Jumps should be carefully considered. Between the abseil sections, there are several—mostly very slippery—tree snags that must be climbed over or downclimbed. Toward the end of the route, there is another beautiful 20-meter (right) abseil section with a rock hole. After that, there’s a fairly flat, slippery section with two (three) short rappelling points before you reach your bikes again at about 800m (small old wooden footbridge).
