Variante mit zwei Autos: Am besten nutzen Sie ein Navigationstool. Fahren Sie oberhalb von Ponta do Sol und Canhas auf den Caminho Pomar Dom João und folgen Sie diesem über den bei Maps bekannten Abschnitt weiter, an einem großen Wassertank vorbei, bis Sie rote Metallpoller erreichen. Hier gibt es eine Möglichkeit, 1 bis 2 PKW zu parken. Lassen Sie unbedingt die Durchfahrt frei und parken Sie nicht auf eingemauertem Privatgrund! Um mit dem zweiten PKW zum oberen Parklatz zu gelangen, folgen Sie einfach der anfangs noch betonierten und dann gepflasterten Piste ca 3,5 km, bis Sie in einer Linkskurve einen Wanderpfad nach oben entdecken. Hier findet sich links ein schmaler Platz zum Parken für 1 bis 2 PKW. Diese Strecke ist in den gängigen Navigationstools nicht enthalten! Alternativ gibt es für weniger Offroadambitionierte die Möglichkeit einen großen Bogen über asphaltierte Straßen zu fahren. Diese Variante wird von Maps vorgeschlagen, ist aber mit 14 km und 25 Minuten Fahrzeit deutlich länger. Variante mit einem Auto: Biegen Sie bei GPS 32.737832, -17.098988 von der ER 209 auf den gepflasterten Fahrweg ab und folgen Sie diesem bergab für ca. 500 m bis zur zweiten Kurve. Hier findet sich rechts ein schmaler Streifen zum Parken für 1 bis 2 PKW.

Option with two cars: It’s best to use a navigation app. Drive past Ponta do Sol and Canhas onto Caminho Pomar Dom João and follow it along the part shown on Maps, past a large water tank, until you reach red metal bollards. There is space here to park 1 to 2 cars. Be sure to keep the driveway clear and do not park on walled-off private property! To reach the upper parking lot with the second car, simply follow the trail—which is concrete at first and then paved—for about 3.5 km until you see a hiking trail leading uphill in a left-hand curve. Here, on the left, you’ll find a narrow spot to park 1 to 2 cars. This route is not included in standard navigation apps! Alternatively, for those less adventurous off-road, there’s the option to take a wide detour via paved roads. This route is suggested by Maps, but at 14 km and a 25-minute drive, it’s significantly longer. Route with one car: At GPS coordinates 32.737832, -17.098988, turn off the ER 209 onto the paved road and follow it downhill for about 500 m until you reach the second bend. Here, on the right, there is a narrow strip of space to park 1 to 2 cars.

Dieser folgen Sie bergab 200 Meter, nun geht ein schlecht erkennbarer Pfad bergab durch die Wiese. Verlassen Sie diesen kurz darauf. Als Orientierung dient ein einzelner, 10 Meter hohe Nadelbaum. Ab diesem queren Sie durch Gestrüpp Richtung Bach. Gesamtzeit 25 Minuten

Follow the uphill trail over the hilltop to the Levada do Paul 2. Follow this trail into the valley heading north until you reach a freshly paved (June 2026) dirt road. Follow this track downhill for 200 meters; now a barely visible path leads downhill through the meadow. Leave this path shortly afterward. A solitary, 10-meter-tall conifer serves as a landmark. From there, make your way through the underbrush toward the stream. Total time: 25 minutes

Je nachdem welchen Einstiegspunkt sie auswählen, sind die ersten Meter eher ein Kampf gegen teilweise dorniges Gestrüpp als Canyoning. Die erste eingerichtete Abseilstelle kann mit Chance auch abgeklettert werden und ist 3 Meter hoch. Der Haken befindet sich auf dem Boden und ist eventuell überwachsen. Bei glattem Untergrund seilen Sie am besten direkt zum nächsten Stand ab (gesamt 7 Meter). Nach weiterem Kampf mit Gestrüpp und teilweise auch Dornen, stehen Sie am ersten von zwei höheren Wasserfällen, je 30 Meter. Kurze Verschnaufpause mit 5 Meter abklettern und 6 Meter abseilen. Dann sind Sie im Herz der Tour: Zubringer/Seilgeländer 8 // C30 // C70. Die letzten 40 Meter sind überhängend. Bei gutem Wasserstand ein tolles Vergnügen. Es folgen weitere, kleine Abbrüche bis maximal 15 Meter. Der letzte Wasserfall ist durch eine Betonwanne geprägt, unter der das Wasser in einem Wellblech abgeleitet wird. Vorsicht, nicht an der Wasserfassung vorbeiseilen, sonst landen Sie im Ribeira da Loiral inferior. Gesamtzeit 3 Stunden

After another struggle with underbrush and, in some places, thorns, you’ll reach the first of two taller waterfalls, each 30 meters high. Take a short breather with a 5-meter downclimb and a 6-meter rappel. Then you’ll reach the heart of the tour: Access Path/Rope Traverse 8 // C30 // C70. The last 40 meters are overhanging. A real treat when the water level is good. This is followed by several more small drops of up to 15 meters. The last waterfall features a concrete trough, beneath which the water is channeled through corrugated metal. Be careful not to rappel past the water intake; otherwise, you’ll end up in the Ribeira da Loiral inferior. Total time: 3 hours

Anfangs ist der Weg dann von Gras überwuchert, nach 15 Minuten wird er zu einem gerade frisch gepflegten Fahrweg (Juni 2026). Diesem Folgen Sie für 45 Minuten bis zum unteren Parkplatz. Gesamtzeit 60 Minuten Variante mit einem Auto: Folgen Sie dem Pfad orografisch links (anfangs Gestrüpp und wenige Dornen), bis Sie nach einem guten Kilometer und 20 Minuten auf einen Pfad nach links oben treffen. Diesem folgen Sie bis zur Piste (800m, 160Hm), dann halten Sie sich links, durchqueren einen kurzen Tunnel und folgen der Piste bergauf für 1,2 km/30 Minuten, bis Sie auf die vom Zustieg bekannte Levada treffen. Achtung, hier läuft man gerne vorbei. Nun folgen Sie der Levada zum Bergkamm und dann geht es bergab zum PKW. Gesamtzeit ca. 1h30 / 4,2km / 430Hm

Be careful—it’s easy to walk right past this point. Now follow the levada to the mountain ridge, and then head downhill to your car. Total time: approx. 1h30 / 4.2 km / 430Hm
