From Kötschach-Mauthen drive on the Plöckenpass federal road in the direction of the pass summit until you reach Gasthof Eder. From here continue for about half a kilometer on the newly built road until you find a parking possibility for several cars on the left side of the road (sign: Mauthen - Römerweg).

Just after the bridge are the first possible jumps (3m, 4m, 2m, up to 8m). The depth of the gorge can be easily controlled by downclimbing the belays. The rest of the canyon alternates between slippery walking passages and slides/canyons up to 10m. From the confluence with the Steinerene chute, the stream cuts up to 150m into the rock - this part is very scenic. About 10 minutes after this waterfall you reach the Klammsteig . (17.07.2011). The 10m waterfall (C 4 right) was washed out and torn away.

Hike along the Klammsteig - "Klabautersteig" - to the Mauthener Waldbad. From here it is best to take a second car or bus back to the entry. The way back via the Römerweg, which starts at the bridge behind the Waldbad, takes about 1 1/2 - 2h.
