Von Domaso fährt man neben dem Comersee auf der SS340 zuerst in Richtung Süden (Ortschaft Menaggio) Achtung! Hier NICHT in die Ortschaft Menaggio abbiegen sondern zwischen den Tunneln die Ausfahrt Richtung Westen nach Porlezza (Lago di Lugano) nicht verpassen (kein GPS Signal). Nach einiger Zeit trifft man auf die Ortschaft Porlezza. Hier biegt man von der Hauptstraße links auf die SP14 in Richtung Osteno/Claino ab. Nach ca. 6Km Seestraße erreicht man den kleinen Ort Osteno. Hier parkt man das Auto am großen Parkplatz zwischen Bach und Sportplatz (= Ausstiegsparkplatz). Für den interessantesten unteren Schluchtabschnitt (Variante 1) braucht man nicht unbedingt ein Überstellungsfahrzeug da man den Einstieg über einen Fussweg in ca. 15 Minuten erreichen kann. Alternativ: Schuttle-Parkplatz Nähe Friedhof von Claino oder mit Bus fahren! Für die Variante 2 braucht man ein Überstellungsfahrzeug oder Bus. Man fährt die Bergstraße (SP14) von der Ortschaft Claino weitere ca. 900m bergauf bis man links eine Holzfirma mit Holzlagerplatz sieht. Hier parkt man das Auto links auf der Schotterstraße/Parkplatz (die Straße führt direkt zum Einstieg).

From Domaso, drive next to Lake Como on the SS340 first in a southerly direction (village of Menaggio) Attention! Do NOT turn into Menaggio, but between the tunnels, do not miss the exit to the west towards Porlezza (Lago di Lugano) (no GPS signal). After some time you will reach the village of Porlezza. Here you turn left from the main road onto the SP14 in the direction of Osteno/Claino. After about 6 km of lake road you reach the small village of Osteno. Here you park the car at the large parking exit between the stream and the sports field (= parking exit). For the most interesting lower part of the gorge (variant 1) you don't need a shuttle car, because you can reach the entry by a footpath in about 15 minutes. Alternatively: Schuttle parking lot near the cemetery of Claino or take the bus! For option 2 you need a shuttle car or bus. Drive up the mountain road (SP14) from the village of Claino for about 900m until you see a timber company with a timber yard on the left. Here you park the car on the left on the gravel road/parking lot (the road leads directly to the entry).

(zu Fuß: 15min) Variante 1 (15min): Vom Parkplatz am See in 10 Minuten nach Claino aufsteigen oder in Claino am Friedhof parken. Von dort in 5 Minuten durch den Ort und zum Lavaio (Waschhaus) gehen. Kurz vorher führt ein mit Drahtseilen gesicherter Pfad unter dem Geländer durch in's Bachbett. Variante 2 (5min): Möchte man die Lirone von weiter oben begehen so geht man von der Schotterstraße/Parkplatz neben der Holzfirma (siehe Anfahrt) in Richtung Bach. In Kürze trifft man auf die Steinbrücke die über die Lirone führt. Man geht über die Brücke und trifft nach einigen Meter auf eine weitere kleine Brücke. Hier links, noch vor der Brücke, den steilen Pfad vorbei an einer alten Ruine bis in den Bach hinunter folgen (ca. 450m).

(on foot: 15min) Option 1 (15min): From the parking lot at the lake, walk up to Claino in 10 minutes or park at the cemetery in Claino. From there, walk 5 minutes through the village to the Lavaio (wash house). Shortly before, a path secured with wire ropes leads under the railing into the streambed. Variant 2 (5min): If you want to walk along the Lirone from higher up, walk from the gravel road/parking lot next to the timber company (see approach) in the direction of the stream. You will soon come to the stone bridge that crosses the Lirone. Cross the bridge and after a few meters you will come to another small bridge. Turn left here, before the bridge, and follow the steep path past an old ruin down into the stream (approx. 450m).

Die Lirone ist eine in den Kalkfels tief eingeschnittene kurze wasserreiche Schlucht mit wunderschönen Gesteinsschichtungen, Auswaschungen und Engstellen. Der Einstieg oben bei der Holzfirma ist sicherlich etwas einfacher (+30min Zeitaufwand) jedoch mit drei kleinen Stufen und unattraktiven, zum Teil verblocktem Gehgelände eher nicht zu empfehlen. Ab bzw. unterhalb der Straßenbrücke von Claino wird es dann richtig eingeschnitten und interessant. Es folgen mehrere Abseilstellen (max 16m) in der Wasserführung die oft auch gerutscht oder gesprungen werden können. Die Gumpen sind meist tief ausgespült und sollten aufgrund der Wasserführung nicht unterschätzt werden. Nach der letzten Abseilstelle kommt noch eine ca. 80m lange Schwimmpassage die aus der engen Schlucht in das breite offene Bachbett führt das man bis zur Brücke/Parkplatz bzw. See folgt. Ausstieg auf ca. 280m.

The Lirone is a short watery canyon cut deep into the limestone rock with beautiful rock formations, washouts and narrow sections. The entry at the top at the timber company is certainly a little easier (+30min time required) but with three small steps and unattractive, partly blocked walking terrain, it is not recommended. From or below the Claino road bridge, the route becomes really steep and interesting. There are several abseils (max. 16m) in the water, which can often be slid or jumped. The pools are usually washed out to a depth and should not be underestimated due to the water flow. After the last abseiling point, there is an approx. 80m long swimming passage that leads out of the narrow canyon into the wide open streambed that you follow to the bridge/parking lot or lake. Exit at approx. 280m.

Nach der Brücke auf ca. 280m aus dem flachen Bachbett rechts über die Bachmauer direkt zum Parkplatz aussteigen oder bis zum Lago di Como weitergehen und am Strand links aussteigen.

After the bridge, at about 280m, exit the shallow streambed to the right over the streambed wall directly to the parking lot or continue to Lago di Como and exit left at the beach.

Achtung: Da die Messtelle 4-5m breit ist, bedeutet 1cm mehr Pegestand einen deutlich höheren Wasserdurchsatz hinter dem Zusammenfluss!! Besonderes zu erwähnen ist ein Zufluss aus dem Tal „Intelvi“ der vor den letzen drei Abseilstellen die Wassermenge verdreifacht

Attention: As the measuring point is 4-5m wide, 1cm more level means a significantly higher water flow behind the confluence!!! Special mention should be made of an inflow from the "Intelvi" valley, which triples the amount of water before the last three abseiling points
