Von der Ortschaft Kötschach-Mauthen fährt man zuerst zum Felsentor bei der Mauthnerklamm (Nähe Waldbad Mauthen). Hier hat man für das Überstellungsfahrzeug einen großen Schotterparkplatz direkt neben dem Bach (Ausstieg/ Wasserstandkontrolle). Mit dem zweiten PKW fährt man wieder zurück zu den Häusern und weiter über die B 110 in Richtung Plöckenpaß. Nach einigen Serpentinen/Hm kommt man beim Ederwirt vorbei. Hier der Straße nun weiter abwärts folgen. Ca. 500m nach der Brücke mit Steinskulptur ("Ente"?) kommt li eine große Schotterausweiche mit Schranken und Fahrverbotsschild (Wandertafel). Hier für den Einstieg/Zustieg parken. (Hat man nur 1 PKW kann auch von unten über den Römerweg zugestiegen werden --> ca. 1h).

From the village of Kötschach-Mauthen, first drive to the rock gate at the Mauthnerklamm (near Waldbad Mauthen). Here you have a large gravel parking place for the shuttle car directly next to the stream (exit/water level control). With the second car you drive back to the houses and continue on the B 110 in the direction of Plöckenpaß. After some serpentines/heights you pass the Ederwirt. Follow the road downhill. Approx. 500m after the bridge with stone sculpture ("duck"?) comes to the left a large gravel turnout with barriers and no-driving sign (hiking sign). Park here for the entry/access. (If you only have 1 car, you can also access from below via the Römerweg --> approx. 1h).

Vom oberen Parkplatz beim Schranken folgt man dem Wanderweg/Forststraße (Beschilderung „Römerweg“). Man bleibt auf der breiten Forststraße die gleich mal über den Valentinbach (Mauthnerklamm) führt. Nun geht es auf der orographisch re Seite weiter. Nach einiger Zeit verlässt man kurz die Forststraße um sie li über den steileren Waldweg (Hochstand) abzukürzen. Etwas weiter oben trifft der Weg wieder auf die Forststraße. Man folgt der Straße nun leicht abwärts über drei Zuläufe bis zum vierten Zulauf mit Wegschranken. Hier befindet sich der Einstieg auf ca. 920m (erste Abseiler vom Schranken li).

From the upper parking lot at the barrier, follow the hiking trail/forest road (signposted "Römerweg"). Stay on the wide forest road that leads across the Valentinbach (Mauthnerklamm). Now continue on the orographic right side. After a while you leave the forest road briefly to shorten it to the left via the steeper forest road (raised stand). A little further up, the path meets the forest road again. Now follow the road slightly downhill over three inlets to the fourth inlet with a barrier. Here is the entry at about 920m (first rappel from the barrier on the left).

Die Steinerne Rinne ist eine kurze vertikale Schlucht die in den Valentinsbach (Mauthnerklamm) mündet, die noch zusätzlich begangen werden muss. Bei unserer Begehung waren leider die meisten Gumpen zugeschottert oder verklaust. Trotzdem haben wir die Schlucht als lohnenswert empfunden da sie nach unten hin einige schöne Stellen hat. Die Schlucht ist sehr kontinuierlich. Man beginnt mit kleineren Stufen/Abseiler, die nach unten hin immer höher werden. Das Highlight ist die letzte Kaskade, ein ca. 40m Abseiler der unterteilt werden kann (ca. 15 und 25m) + ein ca. 25m Abseiler der in die Mauthnerklamm/Valentinsbach führt. An dieser Stelle sieht man ein großes Loch im Fels und schöne Auswaschungen.

The Steinerne Rinne is a short vertical canyon that flows into the Valentinsbach (Mauthnerklamm), which must also be climbed. Unfortunately, most of the pools were gravelled or clogged during our walk. Nevertheless, we found the canyon worthwhile as it has some beautiful spots towards the bottom. The canyon is very continuous. You start with smaller steps/rappel, which get higher and higher towards the bottom. The highlight is the last cascade, a rappel of about 40m that can be divided (about 15 and 25m) + a rappel of about 25m that leads into the Mauthnerklamm/Valentinsbach. At this point you can see a large hole in the rock and beautiful washouts.

Nach der Einmündung in den Valentinsbach (Mauthnerklamm) folgt man dem Bach flussabwärts durch die tief eingeschnittene und beeindruckende Mautherklamm bis zum Ausstiegsparkplatz (am Felsentor). Je nach Lust und Laune geht man am Schluss im Bachbett oder auf dem Römerweg (mehrere Hängebrücken und Felsdurchbrüche).

After the confluence with the Valentinsbach (Mauthnerklamm), follow the stream downstream through the deep and impressive Mautherklamm gorge to the parking exit (at the rock gate). Depending on your mood, you walk in the streambed or on the Roman path (several suspension bridges and rock breakthroughs) at the end.
