Von Nizza 54 km das Var-Tal auf der N 202 aufwärts in Richtung Digne. Dann (etwa 1 km nach der Ortschaft Touet-sur-Var) rechts (nach Norden) ab auf die D 28 in das Vallée de Cians. Zuerst durch die Gorges de Cians geht es später in Serpentinen in die obere Schlucht (Richtung Beuil). Etwa 16 km nach der Abzweigung von der N 202 kommt man durch ein erstes kürzeres Tunnel. Ungefähr 2 km weiter taucht ein zweites Tunnel auf. Auf dem Parkplatz vor dem Tunneleingang stellen wir unser Fahrzeug ab.

From Nice 54 km up the Var valley on the N 202 towards Digne. Then (about 1 km after the village of Touet-sur-Var) turn right (north) onto the D 28 into the Vallée de Cians. First through the Gorges de Cians and later in serpentines into the upper canyon (direction Beuil). About 16 km after the turnoff from the N 202, one comes through a first shorter tunnel. About 2 km further on, a second tunnel appears. We park our vehicle in the parking lot in front of the tunnel entrance.

Wir gehen auf der Straße ungefähr 250 m zurück (südwärts) und beginnen beim Markierungspunkt "211" den Weg aufwärts nach "Ciabanon" (Wegweiser). Er zieht in einigen Serpentinen hinauf, später südwärts querend zu den paar Häusern von Ciabanon (1045 m ü.NN). Jetzt beginnt die Wegfindung schwieriger zu werden. Zwar ist auf der oben genannten Karte ein deutlicher Weg in nördlicher Richtung vermerkt, doch ist der schon ab Ciabanon kaum erkennbar; viele Spuren laufen in der angesagten nördlichen Richtung. Da der Weg von Ciabanon aus ganz leicht und kontinuierlich ansteigt, scheint es sinnvoll, bei den Häusern (vorbei an den Bienenkästen - 2010) erst einmal in nordwestlicher Richtung etwa 20 Höhenmeter aufzusteigen und dann in gleicher Höhe den Hang entlang nordwärts zu gehen. Hat man Glück, so stößt man etwa 200 m weiter auf den nun deutlicher erkennbaren Pfad (GPS: 44°1'12.27"N/6°58'37.85"E). Auf dieser Spur queren wir eine breite Rinne, die sich den Hang herab zieht, um am Gegenhang festzustellen, dass die deutliche Spur sich wieder aufgelöst hat. Wir steigen also weglos am Gegenhang rund 25 bis 30 Höhenmeter auf und treffen auf eine schwarze Kunststoffleitung (ca. 5 cm Durchmesser). Ihr folgen wir - der Pfad scheint bisweilen deutlicher -, bis wir an einen Felsriegel kommen. Wir kämpfen uns durch die stachelige Macchia abwärts, bis wir einen Durchstieg nach links gefunden haben. Sind wir richtig, so können wir an einer Drahtseilsicherung direkt unterhalb des Felsens über das abschüssige Schuttkar traversieren. Danach geht es wieder 5 - 10 Höhenmeter steil hinauf und wir treffen auf einem Felsband wieder auf den Pfad. Er ist nun deutlicher und führt uns nach einiger Zeit zum Bach, wo das Wasser in der schwarzen Leitung abgeleitet wird. Das Schwierige unserer Tour haben wir nun geschafft. Wenn man ein Freund der Macchia ist, kann man sich die doppelte Horizontalquerung (nach Ciabanon und die gleichlange Strecke dann in entgegengesetzter Richtung) sparen und versuchen, sich von der Linksserpentine auf etwa 990 m ü.NN in westlicher Richtung durch die Macchia direkt hinauf zu kämpfen zum oberen "Pfad" - oben angegebene GPS - Position.

We walk back along the road for about 250 m (southwards) and start at marker point "211" on the path uphill to "Ciabanon" (signpost). It climbs in a few serpentines, later crossing southwards to the few houses of Ciabanon (1045 m above sea level). Now the path starts to become more difficult to find. Although there is a clear path to the north on the map mentioned above, it is hardly recognizable from Ciabanon onwards; many tracks walk in the indicated northern direction. As the path climbs gently and continuously from Ciabanon, it seems sensible to first ascend about 20 meters in a north-westerly direction at the houses (past the beehives - 2010) and then walk northwards along the slope at the same altitude. If you are lucky, you will come across the now more clearly recognizable path about 200 m further on (GPS: 44°1'12.27 "N/6°58'37.85 "E). On this track, we cross a wide chute that runs down the slope, only to discover on the opposite slope that the clear track has disappeared again. We climb up the opposite slope without a path for around 25 to 30 meters and come across a black plastic pipe (approx. 5 cm in diameter). We follow it - the path seems clearer at times - until we reach a rocky ledge. We fight our way down through the thorny maquis until we find a passage to the left. If we are right, we can traverse over the sloping scree cirque using a wire rope safety device directly below the rock. Afterwards, the route climbs steeply again for 5 - 10 meters and we meet the path again on a rocky ledge. It is now clearer and after a while leads us to the stream where the water is drained into the black pipe. We have now completed the most difficult part of our tour. If you are a friend of the maquis, you can save yourself the double horizontal crossing (to Ciabanon and then the same distance in the opposite direction) and try to fight your way from the left-hand serpentine at around 990 m above sea level in a westerly direction through the maquis directly up to the upper "path" - GPS position given above.

Offenbar selten begangener Canyon in rutschigem roten Gestein, der außer einem beschwerlichen Zustieg nicht die Klasse bietet wie sein nördlicher Nachbar Raton, dafür aber auch wesentlich kürzer ist.

Apparently rarely visited canyon in slippery red rock, which except for an arduous access does not offer the class as its northern neighbor Raton, but is also much shorter.

Nach dem Abseiler zur Straßenbrücke rechts hinaus, die Straße abwärts (südl. Richtung), um das Tunnel außen herum und wir sind beim Auto.
