Von Carnia fährt man auf der SS13 (Bundesstraße) Richtung Tarvisio. Ca. 3km nach der Ortschaft Resiutta kommt ein kleiner Tunnel und eine Brücke über den Fella Fluss. Nach der Brücke links abbiegen Richtung Roveredo. Nach kurzer Zeit kommt eine größere Straßenbrücke wo man ein großes flaches Bachbett sieht. Hier befindet sich der Ausstieg wenn man durch den kompletten Rio Simon gehen will. Am besten hier die meisten Autos stehen lassen, weil oben weniger Parkplätze sind und sonst die Einheimischen gestört werden. (N46.398500/E013.263400) Mit so wenig Shuttleautos wie möglich der Straße folgen in die kleine Ortschaft Roveredo. In den letzten Jahren hat sich ein Zustieg etabliert und für den parkt man am besten bei der kleinen Kirche von Roveredo. Aber ACHTUNG! Der Rio Simon ist einer der meistbegangensten Canyons in Friaul und wir wollen die Einwohner nicht stören. Deshalb bitte immer Fragen und ggf. wenn beim dem Platz schon zu viele Autos stehen auf einen der Parkplätze ausweichen, die man vorher bei der Anfahrt ins Örtchen Roveredo passiert hat. (N46.387213/E013.252620) oder in der Nähe wenn zu viel los ist. Bitte Rücksicht auf die Einwohner nehmen, damit wir diesen Canyon noch lange ohne Probleme besuchen können.

From Carnia take the SS13 (main road) in the direction of Tarvisio. About 3km after the village of Resiutta there is a small tunnel and a bridge over the Fella river. After the bridge turn left towards Roveredo. After a short time there is a bigger road bridge where you can see a big flat streambed. Here is the exit if you want to go through the whole Rio Simon. (N46.398500/E013.263400) With as few shuttle cars as possible, follow the road to the small village of Roveredo. In the last few years an access has been established and for this it is best to park at the small church of Roveredo. But ATTENTION! The Rio Simon is one of the most frequented canyons in Friuli and we do not want to disturb the inhabitants. Therefore, please always ask and, if necessary, if there are already too many cars at the site, use one of the parking lots that you passed before on the approach to the village of Roveredo. (N46.387213/E013.252620) or nearby if it is too busy. Please be considerate of the inhabitants so that we can continue to visit this canyon for a long time without problems.

Vom Parkplatz bei der Kirche geht man gegenüber die asphaltierte Straße bergauf und kommt dann gleich zum kleinen Friedhof von Roveredo. Hier führt rechts vom Friedhof ein klar erkennbarer Pfad in den Wald. Diesen folgt man, bis man zu einer kleinen Wiese mit Haus kommt. Hier bei dem Haus rechts vorbei die Wiese hoch und oberhalb vom Haus beim Wald sollte man den Pfad wieder spätesten sehen. Man folgt dem Pfad steil bergauf bis man nach ca 20 – 25 min auf den Wanderweg 424 kommt. Dem Wanderweg folgen. Bei ca. 760Hm (nach ca 1h) kommt ein kleiner Bach hier würde man rechts abzweigen um zum unteren Teil Rio Simon inf. zu kommen (Dieser Teil wird am meisten begangen und ist den meisten Leuten als Rio Simon bekannt, weil der obere Teil selten begangen wird.) Für den oberen Teil bleibt man immer auf dem Wanderweg 424. Nach ca 2h kommt man auf ca. 900 Hm zu einer kleinen Schutzhütte (Stavolo Fondariis). Man geht bei dem Haus vorbei in Richtung Wald und kommt hier zu einer Frischwasserquelle. Es empfiehlt sich gerade an heißen Tagen hier noch einmal die Trinkwasservorräte aufzufüllen, wenn man nicht das Wasser des Rio Simon trinken will. Nach weitern 20min führt der Weg 424 direkt durch einen kleinen Zufluss in den Rio Simon hier befindet sich der Einstieg (N46.429797/E013.256769)

From the parking lot near the church, walk uphill on the opposite side of the asphalt road and you will immediately reach the small cemetery of Roveredo. Here, to the right of the cemetery, a clearly visible path leads into the woods. Follow this path until you reach a small meadow with a house. Pass the house on the right, up the meadow and above the house in the forest you should see the path again. Follow the path steeply uphill until you reach the hiking trail 424 after about 20 - 25 min. Follow the trail. At about 760Hm (after about 1h) you will come to a small stream, here you should turn right to get to the inferiore part of Rio Simon (this part is the most frequented and is known to most people as Rio Simon, because the upper part is rarely frequented). For the upper part, always stay on path 424. After about 2 hours, at about 900 m, you will reach a small refuge (Stavolo Fondariis). Go past the house in the direction of the woods and you will come to a spring of fresh water. It is advisable, especially on hot days, to fill up your drinking water supply here, if you don't want to drink the water of the Rio Simon. After another 20min the path 424 leads directly through a small tributary into the Rio Simon here is the entry (N46.429797/E013.256769).

Direkt beim Weg 424, der durch den Zufluss führt befindet sich rechts ein Einzelring, den wir angebracht haben mit der erste 5m-Stufe. Danach befindet man sich schon im Rio Simon. Man kann die nächste Stufe entweder rechts im Wald umgehen oder man seilt sich auf der or. li. oder rechts dank neue Anker. Nach kurzer Gehstrecke und einem Abseiler kommt or li ein Zufluss und es folgt gleich die erste Engstelle die bei einem Hängestand auf einem Klemmblock beginnt. Nach einer weiteren Gehstrecke kommt man zur 2. Engstelle die or. li. von einem Ring, den wir angebracht haben, in Angriff genommen wird (ein alter Stand befindet sich or. re. für Notfälle). Nach einer weiteren längeren Gehpassage kommt ein kleiner Sprung und eine Rinne bei der ein Seilgeländer aufgebaut werden sollte (or. li. Doppelhaken). Dieser führt zu einem Kettenstand und zum höchsten Abseiler im Rio Simon sup. Ein 23m Wasserfall im wunderschönen Ambiente weil or. re. über dem Wasserfall noch eine Quelle in den Rio Simon mündet. Es folgt eine relativ lange Geh- und Abkletterpassage bis man zu einer Doppelkaskade kommt. Diese wurde von uns mit Ringen versehen, sie könnte aber auch or. re. abgeklettert werden. Empfehlenswert ist auf alle Fälle die Doppelkaskade „mitzunehmen“. Es kann nämlich der erste Pool auch von or. li. gesprungen werden nach Kontrolle. Der 2. Wasserfall in der Kaskade, kann von einem neuen Ring. or. re. abgeseilt werden (R18 re). Es folgt noch eine Geh- und Abkletterpassage, ehe man zum letzten Abseiler im Simon kommt, der auch möglicherweise gesprungen werden kann. Nach einer weiteren längeren Geh- und Abkletterpassage kommt man zum Einstieg vom Rio Simon Inf. – dem meist begangen Teil, des Rio Simon.

Directly at path 424, which leads through the tributary, there is a single ring on the right with the first 5m step. After that you are already in the Rio Simon. You can either bypass the next step on the right in the forest or you can rope on the ortographic left or right thanks to new anchors. After a short walking passages and a rappel, there is a tributary to the left and the first narrow section immediately follows, which begins with a hanging stand on a clamping block. After a further walking passage you come to the 2nd narrow section, which is tackled ortographic left by a ring that we have attached (an old belaystation is located ortographic right for emergencies). After another longer walking passage, there is a small jump and a chute where a rope traverse should be set up (or. left double piton). This leads to a chain anchor and the highest rappel in the Rio Simon sup. a 23m waterfall in a beautiful setting because ortographic right above the waterfall a spring flows into the Rio Simon. This is followed by a relatively long walk and downclimb until you reach a double cascade. We equipped this with rings, but it could also be downclimbed ortographic right. We definitely recommend taking the double cascade with you. The first pool can also be jumped from the ortographic left after checking. The 2nd waterfall in the cascade can be rappelled from a new ring ortographic right (R18 right). This is followed by another walk and downclimb before you come to the last rappel in Simon, which can also possibly be jumped. After another long walk and downclimb, you come to the entry of Rio Simon Inf. - the most frequently climbed part of Rio Simon.

Es gibt 2 Möglichkeiten. Bei konditionellen Problemen oder zeitlichen Problemen kann man über den Zustieg des Rio Simon inf. or. re. absteigen. Man geht ca 1h – 1,5h retour zum Parkplatz bei der Kirche in Roveredo. Wenn man den unteren Teil des Rio Simon machen will, dann sollte man mind. noch ca 3,5h einkalkulieren. Natürlich abhängig von der Gruppe und Gruppengröße! Hier kommt man dann beim unteren Parkplatz des Rio Simon bei der Brücke und Picknickplatz raus. Tourenbeschreibung siehe Rio Simon inf.
