Technically easy canyon with handlines that are never exposed or slippery

From Portula, reach the hamlet of Castagnea, then turn right onto the dirt road leading to the Santuario della Novareia and the Centrale del Piancone. Park near the power station.

Cross the bridge over the Sessera River, then turn right following the signs for Alpe Rattarone. Ford the Rio Confienzo at the exit point, then continue along an old carriage road now overgrown with shrubs. Follow it through several switchbacks until you reach a small pass; here, leave the road and follow a descending path on the opposite side, marked by a cairn and red-and-white tape. Descend about 100 meters through the forest (always follow the markings) until you reach the stream. (Total: about 40 min.)

The route begins with some walking, reaching the first MC3 + C10 (right), then immediately C7 (left) with a short rope for returning to the anchor, followed by a bit more walking and MC4 + C10 (right). After another short walk, you’ll find C4 (left, single anchor) and MC2 + C12 (left). From the beautiful pool below, walk a bit further until another stream joins in, then find C6 (right). After this, a fairly long walking section between beautiful pools leads to C7 (left), possible toboggan here. In the pool below, several jumps are possible. Continue walking through some easy downclimbs and narrow scenic passages until you reach the starting point and the dam.
