Von Marbella nach Ronda, von da entweder über Algodonales (schneller) oder Grazalema (landschaftlich schöner) nach Zahara (ca. 90 bis 100 km). Von hier führt ein Fußweg in nördlicher Richtung hinunter in die Schlucht, die man von dem nahegelegenen (ca. 100 m) Mirador del Rio Bocaleones gut einsehen kann. Nach ca. 100 Höhenmetern, erreicht man als Wanderer und Canyonist den Schluchtgrund.

Als Canyonist hielt man früher nach dem Zaun nur noch 50 m auf dem Weg und dann weglos links (SW) hinunter in den Schluchtgrund zum oberen Abschnitt, der aber jetzt verboten ist.
From here, a footpath leads north down into the canyon, which can be easily seen from the nearby (approx. 100 m) Mirador del Rio Bocaleones. After about 100 meters in altitude, hikers and canyonists reach the bottom of the gorge.

Canyonists used to keep to the path for only 50 m after the fence and then head left (SW) down into the bottom of the gorge to the upper parts, but this is now forbidden.

Es handelt sich um eine eindrucksvolle Schlucht mit einer großen Halbhöhle und einigen außergewöhnlichen Tropfsteinformationen. Wasser wird sie nur nach Regenfällen führen, aber einige Gumpen mit stehendem Wasser (recht frisch!) lassen zumindest die Mitnahme eines Neoprenanzugs sinnvoll erscheinen.
This is an impressive canyon with a large semi-cave and some extraordinary stalactite formations. It will only carry water after rainfall, but some pools with standing water (quite fresh!) make it advisable to at least bring a wetsuit.

Sofern man keinen Neoprenanzug mit hat, kann man am Ende der Schlucht kurz nach dem ersten langgestreckten flachen Gumpen nach links aussteigen. Mit Neo geht es noch ca. 20 Min. im Bach weiter (einigermaßen lohnend und vor allem bei Hitze erfrischend) bis zu einer Brücke.Unmittelbar nach dieser rechts Ausstieg auf einen Weg, der noch einige hundert Meter am Bach entlang führt und dann auf eine von links kommende Piste trifft. Auf dieser geht es dann rechts hinauf nach Zahara (insgesamt ca. 3 km).
If you do not have a wetsuit with you, you can exit at the end of the canyon shortly after the first elongated shallow pool to the left. With wetsuit it goes on for about 20 minutes in the stream (reasonably rewarding and refreshing especially in the heat) to a bridge. Immediately after this exit to the right on a path that leads a few hundred meters along the stream and then meets a track coming from the left. On this road you go up to the right to Zahara (in total about 3 km).

Other nearby canyons were overflowing so we decided on Garganta 24hrs after multiple days of rain. (10-20mm or more) it activated the upper part, the middle section has more of a tendency to filter the water. The 3rd part is a nice extra. Morning start is best for light conditions.
