Von Santa Cruz nehmen wir die Straße ER 1-2 in Richtung Ponta Delgada (nördliche Richtung, küstennah). Gerechnet vom nördlichen Ende der Land-/Startbahn des Airports von Santa Cruz erreichen wir nach etwa 10 km die Abzweigung der Straße hinunter zur Ortschaft Ponta Ruiva. Auf dieser Straße fahren wir abwärts und biegen nach fast 1100m links ab auf einen Feldweg. Nach eta 120m auf diesem Feldweg biegen wir in rechtem Winkel links ab auf einen Seitenweg und fahren auf diesem noch 430m, sofern das mit dem Fahrzeug möglich ist. Hier - bevor der Wiesenweg nun beginnt, abzufallen - stellen wir unser Auto auf einer Art Wendeplatz ab.

From Santa Cruz we take the road ER 1-2 in the direction of Ponta Delgada (northern direction, near the coast). Calculated from the northern exit of the runway of the airport of Santa Cruz, after about 10 km we reach the junction of the road down to the village of Ponta Ruiva. On this road we descend and after almost 1100m we turn left onto a dirt road. After about 120m on this dirt road, we turn left at a right angle onto a side path and continue on this for another 430m, if this is possible with the vehicle. Here - before the meadow path now begins to descend - we park our car on a kind of turning area.

Wir gehen nun den besagten Wiesenweg weiter, leicht bergab, mit Ausblick auf das Meer und die Küste. Später treten wir in einen lichten Niederwald ein und queren, immer bergab marschierend, 3 Seitenbäche/Rinnsale, bevor wir an den Hauptbach Rib. das Barrosas kommen (Einstieg). Nach dem Bach würde der Weg wieder ansteigen.

We now continue along the said meadow path, slightly downhill, with views of the sea and the coast. Later we enter a sparse coppice forest and, always marching downhill, cross 3 side streams/rivulets before reaching the main stream Rib. das Barrosas (entry). After the stream, the path would rise again.

Wir treten in eine vergleichsweise Wenig offene Schlucht ein. Sprünge oder Rutschen sind in der gesamten Schlucht manchmal möglich, aber nur nach eingehender vorheriger Prüfung. Zuerst erwarten uns 4 Abseiler zwischen 15m und 18m, Es folgt eine längere Gehstrecke, wo sich Möglichkeiten für einen Notausstieg nach links eröffnen würden. Nach einem 20m-Abseiler und einer kürzeren Laufstrecke beginnt der Bach sich ab dem 6. Abseiler (8m) einzutiefen. Nach 2 weiteren Abseilern (11m u. 10m) und einigen Passagen des Abkletterns sehen wir hinaus auf das Meer und stehen dann am Schlussabseiler, 22m über dem Meer. Der Stand muss hier über die wasserführende Rinne links angeseilt werden.

We enter a comparatively little open canyon. Jumps or slides are sometimes possible throughout the canyon, but only after thorough prior examination. First, 4 rappels between 15m and 18m await us, A longer walking passages follows, where possibilities for an emergency exit to the left would open up. After a 20m rappel and a shorter walking section, the stream begins to deepen from the 6th rappel (8m). After 2 more rappels (11m u. 10m) and some passages of rappel we look out to the sea and then stand at the final rappel, 22m above the sea. The belay must be roped up here via the water-bearing chute on the left.
