Variante 1 (Begehung von unten, 1 PKW) Parken Sie ein Auto an der Fischfarm im Chao da Ribeira Tal ganz am Ende der Piste (Siehe GPS Daten Parkplatz Ausstieg). Hier findet sich ein Infoschild zum Canyoning. Variante 2 (Begehung von oben, 2 PKW) Mit dem zweiten Auto fahren Sie zuerst entlang der VE2 RICHTUNG Porto Moniz und dann über Ribeira de Janela (Vorsicht, die Ausfahrt liegt direkt am Ende des Tunnels dos Casais) entlang der ER 209 auf das Rabacal Plateau bis zum Einstiegsparkplatz (siehe GPS Daten, 17,5 km Strecke ab dem Tunnelende). Hier findet sich ein Infoschild zu den verschiedenen Canyons.

Option 1 (ascent from below, 1 car) Park a car at the fish farm in the Chao da Ribeira valley at the very exit of the slope (see GPS data parking lot exit). Here you will find an information sign for canyoning. Option 2 (ascent from above, 2 cars) With the second car, first drive along the VE2 DIRECTION Porto Moniz and then via Ribeira de Janela (be careful, the exit is right at the exit of the dos Casais tunnel) along the ER 209 to the Rabacal plateau to the parking entry (see GPS data, 17.5 km route from the end of the tunnel). Here you will find an information sign about the various canyons.

Variante 1 In der selben Richtung dem anfänglich breiten, später schmaleren Pfad folgen, das Wehr rechts übersteigen und weiter durch den Wald, bis zu einem Holzschild "Vereda dos Barbinhas". Hier den Fluss Seixal überqueren und gegenüber den schwach erkennbaren Pfad suchen (Steinmännchen). Diesen durch die steile Wand aufsteigen bis die Levada do Seixal erreicht ist. Der Levada in Fließrichtung (der Abgrund ist dann rechts) für gut 50 Meter, dann setzt sich der Lombo Barbinhas Pfad weniger steil fort. Er führt in 30 Minuten zur Levada do Norte. Dieser folgen Sie ENTGEGEN der Fließrichtung (Abgrund wieder rechts) durch drei Tunnel, bis Sie das Ende der Levada erreicht haben. Hier können Sie sich umziehen. (Gesamtzeit ca. 2h, 3,8km, 700Hm) Variante 2 Ab dem oberen Parkplatz gehen wir nahezu Richtung Norden auf einer breiten Piste ("Terra Cha"). Wir passieren die Zustiege zum Seixal superior und Hortela superior (beide links). Nach gut 2,1 km (30 min) gehen wir links auf die leicht abschüssige Piste. Diese führt zu einem Wanderweg, der durch den Wald teils steil bergab zur Levada do Norte führt ("Vereda do Lombo Barbinhas"). An der Levada angekommen gehen wir nach links und folgen der Levada entgegen der Fließrichtung gut 1200 Meter durch drei Tunnel. Der Canyon beginnt am Ende der Levada. (1h45min, 5,3km, -500Hm) Variante 3 Kombination mit anderen Abschnitten der diversen Canyons oberhalb und/oder unterhalb (Lombo do Queimado, Hortela Partie 1 und 3, Seixal inferior, Folhado inferior, Vimieiro) Der Phantasie sind hier kaum Grenzen gesetzt, der mittlere Teil des Hortela wird nur in Ausnahmefälen separat begangen.

Option 1 Follow the initially wide, later narrower path in the same direction, cross the dam on the right and continue through the forest until you reach a wooden sign "Vereda dos Barbinhas". Cross the river Seixal here and look for the faintly recognizable path opposite (cairn). Climb up the steep wall until you reach the Levada do Seixal. Follow the levada in the direction of flow (the abyss is then on the right) for a good 50 meters, then the Lombo Barbinhas path continues less steeply. It leads to the Levada do Norte in 30 minutes. Follow this path AGAINST the direction of flow (abyss again on the right) through three tunnels until you reach the exit of the levada. Here you can change your clothes. (Total time approx. 2h, 3.8km, 700m) Option 2 From the upper parking lot, we head almost north on a wide track ("Terra Cha"). We pass the accesses to Seixal superior and Hortela superior (both on the left). After a good 2.1 km (30 min), we turn left onto the slightly sloping slope. This leads to a hiking trail that descends steeply through the forest to the Levada do Norte ("Vereda do Lombo Barbinhas"). Once we reach the levada, we turn left and follow the levada against the direction of flow for a good 1200 meters through three tunnels. The canyon begins at the exit of the levada. (1h45min, 5.3km, -500Hm) Variant 3 Combination with other parts of the various canyons above and/or below (Lombo do Queimado, Hortela parts 1 and 3, Seixal inferior, Folhado inferior, Vimieiro) There are hardly any limits to the imagination here, the middle part of the Hortela is only walked separately in exceptional cases.

Ein gutes Dutzend Abseilstellen bis 26 Meter Höhe (30m Seil) führt zurück zur Levada do Seixal, die man am besten über die orografisch rechten Anker erreicht. Die orografisch linke Linie führt zwar durch ein Fenster in den Levadatunnel, aber dieses ist bei hohem Wasserstand hinter dem Wasserfall versteckt. Außerdem besteht das Risiko, dass man zum nächsten Anker weiterseilt und sich dann bereits im Hortela inferior (Partie 3) befindet.

A good dozen abseils up to 26 meters high (30m rope) lead back to the Levada do Seixal, which is best reached via the orographic right anchor. The orographic left line leads through a window into the levada tunnel, but this is hidden behind the waterfall when the water level is high. There is also a risk that you will continue to the next anchor and then find yourself in the Hortela inferior (section 3).

Dieser führt in wenigen Minuten durch den Wald, überqueren Sie die Staumauer links und folgen Sie der Piste über die Wiese zum unteren Parkplatz. Verrückte parken am oberen Parkplatz, steigen von dort zu und nach der Tour wieder nach oben zum Auto zurück

Variant 1 and 2 You follow the levada orographically to the right (the abyss is then on your left) against the direction of flow for 710m to reach the Vereda do Lombo Barbinhas descent.
